Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
No C is the max skill you can get before the skill becomes somewhat supernatural.
Uhhh actually it already is supernatural. The peak of mortal ability is F rank.

Ahhhh update!
Yay!

"There are many monsters in the world," Bao Qian replied agreeably, dusting off his knees. "In any case, congratulations are in order. Your contributions were truly superb, or so I have heard."

"You wouldn't know it, looking at the rankings," Ling Qi replied a little irritably.

"Petulence does not suit you Miss Ling," Bao Qian chuckled. "I think you are underestimating your gains. You salvaged a truly unforeseeable situation. I would expect that to be a consideration in the future as well."

Ling Qi knew that, she had discussed it with Cai Renxiang too, it was likely that her gains in coming months would receive a subtle bump as well, assuming she continued to contribute.
Interesting, sounds like we don't have to worry too much about progression if we keep our nose to the wheel and work super hard. We were doing that already though, so! No big deal imo.

Eyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

SHE GOT IN! GO SU LING!

God that's going to piss her the hell off isn't it. Oops.

Bao Qian stared at her for a moment, and then let out a laugh. "I wonder if I should feel hopeful," he chuckled, and she flushed. "It might be best to study Emperor Si's reign, there were a number of land disputes in that time."

"Thank you," Ling Qi replied, bowing her head as she slid down from the fence post.

"It is no trouble, good day Miss Ling,"
Emperor Si? That's pretty recent all told, the emperor before Emperor An. Hmmm gonna go look back at the political map.

"The not -family makes offerings, this is proper," Zhen said. "See Big Sister, I Zhen, have been given a shrine."

"It's our shrine," Gui complained.

Ling Qi blinked, bemused and followed Zhen's gaze, and only then saw it. There, toward the back of the garden, was a little building. It was a small shed with folding doors, and a small altar and incense burner inside. She was aware of it, there were representations of some common and local spirits inside. Looking again though, among their representations was a wooden carving of Zhengui, placed among the others. It was brightly painted, if a little crudely made.

"...Congratulations," Ling Qi said after a moment. It made her feel odd, to see her little brother represented as an object of worship. "You'll have to make sure the garden blooms well then."
OUR SON HAS A SHRINE!

GOOD!

"Xuan Shi is only visiting to do a favor for me, it is hardly a state visit Mother," Ling Qi replied wryly as they entered the house.

Ling Qingge shot her a dubious look, as if to say 'that does not make it better'.
It really kinda doesn't Ling Qi :V

"You are too kind, Sir Xuan," her Mother replied. "Please, enter and make yourself comfortable. I hope that my daughter has not troubled you overmuch."

"....Thine daughter is a most impressive young woman, this one is not troubled by assisting her at all," Xuan Shi said earnestly.

Mother shot her a look out of the corner of her eye. Ling Qi held in a sigh, Xuan Shi's formality was giving her the wrong ideas. "I believe you prepared some refreshments Mother?" Ling Qi asked. "Shall we see to our guest, and discuss business then?"
Muahahahahahahahaahhahahaahh! HAH!

Lol. That's going to be a fun talk.

Sadly Su Ling being inducted into the Inner Sect has likely weakened Gan's position in the outer sect some. On the other hand, Gan organizing and turning the outer sect into a more efficient work force is likely going to be more rewarded now that the Sect is fully acknowledging it's up against a peer foe.

All our girls have gone up the ranks.

And, it seems we've managed to eclipse the Sun.

[] A general upgrade of the home's formation arrays for durability and security (2 green stones)
I'd love the fully fortified panic room but owing favors everywhere doesn't appeal to me and also it'd give mommers more ideas, lmao.

Hmm, on one hand that is alot of money to spend for something we might not use. On the other hand we got more then expected this month with room to grow.

And we give Xuan another in with that favor for possible plot threads. Going to go for bunker unless a really good reason for why we cant afford it comes up.

I think a Panic Room will be best here. Also, will be fun to see what favor to Xuen Shi will lead to, as was already said.

And i wonder how awkward he feels at that point. i really want a Xuen Shi interlude at some point. thought the mystery of his thoughts is part of the appeal of his character, so maybe its better to keep guessing.

We overtook freaking Liling
She hasn't really moved since last month, so that's probably due to her just not contributing to the war effort this month. It's likely tied up with her going away, either her family's pulling her away to keep her safe and doesn't want her going to war in the mean time or she just figures gaining a higher sect rank isn't worth the trouble if she's not going to have time to reap the benefits.

Not only has she not moved, but Ling Qi got her old rank of 705, when she herself got to 706. Ling Qi flat out overtaking her is a definitive statement from the sect that they don't appreciate her leaving just when things get hot.

It should not be possible to not move. Either you are going up or going down. If people are overtaking her she should be falling. Unless exactly the right number of people have left the sect.

705: Ling Qi
706: Sun Liling
Oh the burn. And at the same time, knowing Ji Rong will brief her on what exactly went down there, she really can't deny it's well earned.

Intermediate Lessons Unlocked. Add .1 Multiplier to all cultivation actions
On one hand: Hell yeah.
On the other hand: I was expecting for something more fluff-oriented, or help with new types of cultivation action like modding and meridian stuff, but I guess modding gets workshop options later and meridian reshaping is a G4 thing.
On the third hand: There go my carefully optimized plans

674-650: 3 Green Stones+60 Yellow. Art Modification Workshops Available, Third Floor Archive free
649-625: 4 Green Stones +40 Yellow. May use CP to purchase Site Access, Fourth Floor Archive available
624-600: 4 Green Stones+60 Yellow. Major Elder Tutoring Available.
599-550: 5 Green Stones +40 Yellow. Core Pillmaker List unlocked. Fourth Floor reduced cost.
549-501: 5 Green Stones +60 Yellow. Fourth Floor free. Comprehensive Lessons Available.
Overall it looks like the higher ranks offer something substantial at every stage. Starting from the end:
  1. Free 4th floor and comprehensive lessons will be quite nice toward when we're leaving the sect.
  2. Core pillmakers should make the drug gacha even better, maybe stuff at SLP-tier can show up.
  3. Elder tutoring is something we've been eyeing for a while now, though hopefully the cost is in CP.
  4. CP site access can mean either training rooms which should help with stats and advanced skills, or cultivation sites which can help flexibility (and in general let us cash in our small mountain of CP into power)
  5. Art modification workshops look interesting, there's been some chat in discord over modifying HDW to trade away the buff aspects for a communication one, letting us have the currently-useless techs do something nice, experiment with modding before we're fully diving into successor creation, and probably having a great excuse to poke Bian Ya for tips in music club. Hopefully the timing works out because the opportunity window isn't that big.

"Not this time," Ling Qi shot back with a touch of humor. "I'm here for business."

"You should not so easily speak such alluring words," Bao Qian joked. Flicking his wrist, a small pouch that bulged with stones appeared in his hand.
Bao Qian knows what he likes.

"It looks like you were enjoying yourself," Ling Qi said lightly, bypassing the subject. "Did you like those berries?"

"Li-Li is a nice human," Gui rumbled. "The treats were empty, but they were still tasty."

"Li-Li?" Ling Qi asked, raising an eyebrow, that was a child's nickname.

"Mm, the older human called her that, and she does not have a Name," Gui agreed.
  • Spirit beasts don't even get nutritional value from non-cultivator food.
  • No [name] means nicknames are free game.
  • LQ missed the [name] thing probably. Oh well, she'll get it by the time the Domain Name Quest happens.
Looking again though, among their representations was a wooden carving of Zhengui, placed among the others. It was brightly painted, if a little crudely made.
Yes, the cult must grow.

One of those Old Ducal advantages, starting out with a [Name] of some sort already present while even LQ doesn't have one (as seen in one of the zhengui interludes).

"Zhengui did not do much," they both replied, and Ling Qi frowned at the synchronicity.

Ling Qi examined him, and her frown only deepened. He had not come out of that battle unmarked. Even with his prodigious vitality, scars remained. Her eyes marked every chipped spike on his shell, every scratch on his scales. There was a line, just above Zhen's right eye, and a spiralling scar on his left foreleg, where a ribbon had curled, trying to tear his leg from under him. Those were only the most prominent marks.

"You did very well Zhengui, you protected me, I'm proud of you," Ling Qi said.

Both of his gazes looked away. She could tell he couldn't quite believe it. She could also tell that pushing the matter would only be detrimental at the moment. She had gotten better at that.
Looks like our little brother got hurt in his self-worth, something to work on over time. Hopefully the thing with Wang will be of some use but generally I think this will something that takes time and opportunities for Zhengui to validate himself.

I think, the crudely drawn Zhengui in the shrine might have been doodled by Biyu.

...I bet her Art skill is already better than ours, or will be soon, at this rate. Is Ling Qi confident she could do better herself, I wonder? Now I wanna see Ling Qi try and paint a portrait of Zhengui, Sixiang and Hanyi.

[] A fully fortified 'Panic Room' fortified to the limit of Xuan Shi's skill (7 Green Stones, owed favor to Xuan Shi.)

I am leaning for this. With a bit of luck, this fortification might just become not Qingge and Biyu's personal panic room, but turn the house into kind of an emergency shelter for her neighbours. It would give a lots of points to her reputation among the mortal community outside of the sect.

As for Xuan Shi, Seaseeker is a very cool title. ...Maybe if we go with the Fully panic room and push Xuan Shi's skill to the limit he'll have some sort of amazing insight suddenly pop up, and his gains from it will make the debt pay for itself. Advanced insight: "Must protecc waifu." ...Something more eloquent, but among those lines :9

...Also, Mom knows. She gonna start asking LQ for grandchildren anytime now. :3c

I'm personally leaning towards the panic room, because owing someone a favor is useful when 1) you're still working toward a closer relationship and 2) you can be relatively sure they won't take undue advantage. I think this meets both criteria.

Bao Qian stared at her for a moment, and then let out a laugh. "I wonder if I should feel hopeful," he chuckled, and she flushed. "It might be best to study Emperor Si's reign, there were a number of land disputes in that time."

I'm not surprised to hear there were lots of land disputes back in Emperor Si's reign, I hear he was kind of a yes-man.

Ling Qi has Art rank F, peak of mortal skill. I am very proud of Biyu but I don't think she's a mortal master of arts. :V

On the other hand, once again the Ma sisters are left in the dust.

"Pssst did you hear, anyone guarded by the Ma sisters get into the inner sect, pass it on!"

inb4 they are guarding Gan

I kinda want this because we owe a favor. Showing consistency makes a good impression. Being known as
reliable when it comes to favors will help us out in the long run or could lead to a favorable enough impression that we get offered more things for favors. Besides Cai Duchess seems to be aligning or at least be neutral when it comes to Xuan so it can't hurt if looking at the circumstances and Xuan Shi is not a bad guy to owe a favor to unlike Yan Renshu.

Also paranoia here a bunker room might be useful or what we need in the future.

Edit:
Also we have 20 green stones so at worst we will probably lose half of our currency and still have 10 Green stones left over. Otherwise we might consider getting back into our Formations skill so we can get our own set of security.

Favor trading is an essential part of Guanxi, politics and interpersonal relationships in general, owing Xuan Shi a favor is a good way to keep our diplomancer skills sharp and maintain our friendship.

On a related note, can we write off the Green Stones as a business expense? It's only fair if Renxiang wants us to diplomance that we get a diplomatic account! :V
