Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
She also uses Earth IIRC, probably because it fits her philosophy. The sword art she was practicing last year was Earth/Mountain I think. So her final element spread ends up being Mountain/Earth/Fire with Lake when she can't avoid it.

[X] Speak of Zeqing as a musician, and the way that your style and compositions changed from interacting with her. [More impersonal, easier to talk about. May offer some insights into music skills from introspection]

more music skills maybe pray for rng gods

Zengui is like a weak cultivation site right? I can imagine her sitting on his back just cultivatin with us and chillin.
I forget though what are Li Suyin's elements?

I don't remember it being mentioned as earth at all. Do you recall where that was said?

only one we know is her family art of I think Wood (or something for healing). Anything else we have no idea

Su Ling I think mentioned it a few turns after she rejected Ling Qi's offer to learn (I think) Argent Storm.

I think the chapter where it was mentioned had Su Ling practice with Ling Qi by wailing on her while she practiced the TRF.

My point is where is it said there? Because I don't see it.
week 32 said:
Su Ling, seated on the ground with her sword across her lap, looked away. The other girl looked discomfited by the comment, scratching her cheek sheepishly. "It's a good focus for meditation. The third stage of the Insurmountable Crag art is kinda…"

Ling Qi nodded her understanding as she settled herself on the flat stone that was her customary seat. Mountain qi didn't really come too naturally to the other girl, so as much as Su Ling liked practicing her sword art, it was kind of an uphill struggle. In the case of Argent Mirror, the difficulty had been offset by how easily she took to Lake qi, but here she didn't have that advantage. "Well, it's not like I mind," Ling Qi replied lightly, idly running her fingers along the polished length of her flute, wondering what she should play.
I only see Mountain, no earth.

About suyin we also know she has water/earth and some spider.

We had a stat sheet for her back in Turn 2, so the actual stats and cultivation levels are all outdated, but the element list probably didnt change too much
Yellow 3/Silver 3
Health E15, Qi C20
Speed F15, Initiative E5
C. Perc. D15
Phys Def
Avoid: E15, Armor F15
Spir Def
Avoid D5, Armor C
Phys Off
Hit E15, Pen E5

Primary Elements: Water, Wood, ???
Secondary Elements: Metal

Spirit Beast: Moundbuilder Spider, Zhenli
Yellow 1/Silver 1

Though i really doubt Zhengui is good enough of a cultivation site for her. Especially since she should have access to better ones

Just binged the quest and have some questions to the people who read the thread and not only updates:
1) Are talent scores of other characters known? I know that Ji Rong's is higher than Ling Qi, but he doesn't progress that much faster, so he probably has 7. What about Ducals - Sun, Cai, Bai? Do they have talent 6 as well, or are they somewhat lower on that scale but compensate with better resources? Where do Ling Qi's other friends stand? How talented is "average" cultivator (all those people in Outer Sect whose names we didn't bother to learn)?

2) What's wrong with Water? I have seen mentions in comments here and there that hinted that Water is an undesirable element for Ling Qi (at least OOC) and efforts are made to be rid of it.

3) Regarding the challenge system: if the challenged party decides the terms of the challenge, then how do duels work between people whose skillsets are even a bit different? What would prevent someone to choose some narrow skill to use as a defence? For example, couldn't Ling Qi just choose something music-related every time to shut down any challenger who isn't a musician himself? Who can topple a master of Underwater Basketweawing? It seems that you can only win as a challenger if you are better at every imaginable activity (which is impossible) or if there are rules/traditions that somehow narrow the options of the challenged party.

I'm being lazy, so I'll let others hunt down all the info to answer your first question.

In regards to water, it's a meme. We keep getting Water element arts through lucky finds and drops, like getting FVM from the moon, or our new art tablet being from Thousand Lakes so having a lot of water element stuff, etc. despite never really seeking it out. So it's a kinda a joke about how Water keeps showing up to plague us and "oh no, water!" etc. It's not really serious, at this point it's here to stay.

It's true the challenged party select the challenge...from the list given to them by the presiding elder. If a music challenge wouldn't be challenging for either party (one side is just going to effortlessly crush the other), the elders are not going to give it as an option because it wouldn't help spur on any growth. So your master basket weaver would almost never get the opportunity to chose something as narrow as basket weaving to defend their position, the best they could hope for would be a crafting challenge where they could use a masterfully weaved basket as the solution and hope it's superior to whatever the other person specializes in.

Only Ling Qi and technically Ji Rong have known talent, which is respectively 6 and 7. The others are more unknown but the three ducal scions should have the talent and resources to keep up with us, meaning they'd be between 5, 6, or 7. NPC talents kinda have decimals in them. The people accepted in Sect would range from Talent 3- above. Think of average cultivators probably between 3 or 4 (3 obviously being the lower side).

This is more of a meme than a serious thing

Glad to have you! As for your questions, here are some answers.

1) We do not know of the talent score for anyone else. Talent is a mechanic meant to represent a breadth of factors and as such is an abstraction meant to help us play the quest as a game. Other individuals don't have a hard talent number (that we are privy to) because they aren't the main character. They may have a number to reach for breakthrough rolls which Yrsillar appears to roll for them.

2) There is nothing wrong with water as an element. People's dislike of it is more of a meme because Ling Qi has never actively searched for water arts, but many of the arts we use regularly have been given to us and have the water element.

3) First off, the challenge system no longer applies in the story because of the War. Now ranking is determined by the contributions to the war effort one gives to the Sect. However, challenges in times of peace are a little more complicated than the challenged choosing a skill the other person can't have. When an individual is challenged, an Elder or Sect Official chooses a set of activities that more or less match with both parties' skills. It is from this list of activities that the challenged chooses which one to have the challenge be based around. This way the sect can avoid the exact scenario you have confusion about.

Hope this helps!

Can talent be increased? If so, do we know how?

Yes! Getting to white pretty much requires effective talent increase.

No, we don't know any, because that's the type of thing that would be closely guarded clan secrets (and are probably both dangerous and expensive, and might have minimum cultivation level requirements).

There are methods to increasing talent (chances are ducals know some). As for "do we know how", no we do not.

What type of spirits and beasts would you guys like to see in the future or bind when ling qi equip songseeker's ceremony
1) Ling Qi has already equipped Songseeker Ceremony

2) I'm not interested in binding any other spirits and beasts in the entire duration of ToD.

While I'm not too keen on binding any more spirits (we've already got a bunch to keep track of and interact with), I would love to see more Forest/Hidden Moon spirits. We have that possible lead with the Moon Deer hanging around the Sect to interact with, which I think would be really cool. Outside of that, we know that there was a court of Hidden Moon spirits that used to help the ruling Emerald Sea families before they stopped, and I think that would be an interesting group to interact with.

Outside of the Moon spirits I want to see more of, I would like to see what it is like at the Thunder Palace and interact with the spirits that congregate there. Get some connections with wind, thunder, and lightning spirits which I feel could be helpful given the ongoing war with the Cloud Nomads.

For reasons that should remain unmentioned (shhh @Erebeal), we need to bind at least 8 moon spirits total, sooooo:
- A Owl Bloody Moon spirit
- A Moth Grinning Moon
- A Fox Guiding Moon
- Twin Cat Reflecting Moon
- A sprite Hidden Moon Spirit
- A Deer Mother Moon Spirit

On Talent, note that it is an abstraction. Ling Qi as Player Protagonist has one nice neat number for universally applicable Talent, and to reduce complexity.

Element or other forms of specific narrow Talent exist as well, for instance, Xiulan's Tribulation made her functionally have higher Talent when it comes to Heaven and maybe Fire arts, but since she doesn't actually use the talent system like we do what that actually means is ambiguous beyond "Xiulan does Fire and Lightning more easily than before".
Personality compatibility plays a part as well, Meizhen discovered her ability with Earth after becoming friends with Ling Qi, prior to which the Bai culture's...difficulties with trust and communality would have made it harder.
Su Ling as a first generation half spirit has a bigass advantage with following the path of her spirit parent(Fire-Lake Illusions), and a disadvantage with forms which oppose that, even though Su Ling is a direct person she finds it hard to progress in Mountain over lake.

There are many ways to walk, and the rules are significantly personal in nature.
