I find it interesting that no one that we know of has dropped in the ranks at all. Which actually seems a bit odd because how the ranks work is that for every rise there must be an equal amount of fall. Not a single person we know of happened to be out of place or just helped less than average? Who are these masses of unknown people that have suddenly dropped though the ranking?

Edit: Then again there are likely many people that are leaving the sect right now because of the danger. Alot of the jump in ranking might be just filling in the gap made by all those people. Can any Math people calculate an estimate of how many inner sect members must have left?

My personal interpretation on what cultivators are doing by Integration is 'freezing' a portion of themselves and putting it in a state of unchanging stasis.

Their human bodies and souls are mutable, that is almost the defining characteristic of humans in the setting when contrasted with Spirits and Beasts. Ones cultivation is no different, even lessons integrated into your domain are not permanent, as at the least they may be discarded later on and will likely go through smaller modifications as ones cultivation progresses.

But the domain weapon is unchanging in concept, only gaining in potency as the cultivator advances, but also connected to their domain and self as is the entire point of being a domain weapon, and so the integrated art remains with the cultivator also unchanging.

By integrating her desire for purity Renxiang did not change it, or remove it, instead she took a 'snapshot' of that aspect of herself and moved it to a container whilst still be connected to her, such that her desire for purity will remain connected to her and yet unchanged no matter what happens in the future.

It is in a way likely the biggest divergence Renxiang will have had from humanity up till this point, as before this point she could at least have been persuaded away from that part of herself, as all humans are at least able to change their minds even if such is a nigh impossible task sometimes, but with this it will be truly impossible to change Renxiangs desire for purity as I understand it (or at least this aspect of said desire, as the desire for purity may be supplemented in additional ways not connected to the part in the domain weapon in the future), and the same will be true for Ling Qi and whatever aspect she chooses to integrate.

How many of those were higher ranked than LQ or not, or were Sect lifers as opposed to Inner Sect members, I don't know.

Part of it is probably also that Ling Qi doesn't really pay attention to people not on an upwards trajectory.
Pretty much none of the people she knows about would have been trying to sit this one out, rather than trying to make a name for themselves, cause they're either her highly competetive yearmates, members of a count clan or at least part of their posse or rando duel opponents Ling Qi recently inspired/helped out.
 
@yrsillar As a matter of curiosity/rumor mill IC info (more than enough time passed and we should be keeping track of these things), what did Ji Rong even do to deserve this:

Considering LQ contributed to the saving of like 3 villages and killing one party leader and an assassin (with Xiulan, though getting injured in the process), Ji Rong basically has to have done something comparable which would surely generate rumors.

(Also couldn't you have made us rank 724 or lower... intermediate lessons seems pretty relevant to this domain weapon art integration business)

Also dont forget about any casualties suffered. We already know of a cultivator which got killed, and one higher year core student which got his arm cut off permanently.

Maybe debilitating injuries might even be enough to have some people outright back out of any competition by request so the elders either dropped them in rank, or outright removed them from the rankings altogether for whatever reason.

Reminder that this isn't a point system, but a ranking system. It is theoretically harder, even if by a minuscule amount, for someone to go from 700 to 699 that it is for someone to go from 800 to 700, despite the second being a bigger jump. While this may be a lil more fluid due to tiers, and a lil more fluid still due to the new indirect rules for competition, it still means that everyone who jumped while being/going above Ji Rong, except maaaaybe Xuan Shi if we stretch that fluidity, contributed more than him despite the intimidating enormity of his jump.

Edit: clarified that this affects only people who jumped, as everyone who retains did so by retaining their previous positions.

No idea what Ji Rong did, but there are the casualties and people like Xiulan who left that would open up new spaces for people who've jumped up in ranks.
