And in that case losing Ridcully would have sucked but was ultimately manageable. The Minor Favor would still be enough to take care of Turoq.
But, given his abilities would you say risk out weighed reward.

I can see your point, but tell me is there any action like 1/10 as important than Lin´s ones?
Because I don´t see any.
The fact that we are currently dealing with two population crisis, the giant armada of hungry hungry hippos.

Those are still things.

Tell me how? Lin is the LAST Saint of the Emperor, the Emps is not going to be able to bless someone like him in 10 millennia.
And?

Lin's got a short cut, but there are ways of learning stuff that doesn't require his blessing.

In time perhaps we'll get someone who can do that.

Perhaps more important than figuring out the chance of success is figuring out the odds of Lin getting possessed/Demonic Incursion/Bad End.

If it's odds of 1/100 then that's one thing. But if it's reasonably high then even if we have a decent chance of success overall it might still be too risky.

This is also another reason to make sure we get help from our allies, as they might be able to help mitigate those extreme risks with the right guidance and support, as well as making the action more likely to be successful overall.

Holy shit the DM has said it is Bad End territory and you are saying I am fear mongering? And he has said that Rewards are less than or equal to Risks??
Since you are not taking into account our chances of success (that are around 60% BEFORE any diplomatic action) , and you are only considering what would happen if we get a critical failure.

Yes I would say that you are Fear Mongering.

ok, so we have somewhere between a 59% and 30% chance of success, with maybe another 10% or so from the eldar and Avernus. if the odds are 59 and we get a +10 or more, then i'd be willing to risk it. we know that trying and failing would at best cost us lin, and quite possible be on the order of multiple cities going boom or multiple heroes falling.

i'm not willing to risk the world on something with worse odds than a coin flip.
You are missing the fact the the hypothetical quest end scenario is only on the WORST fail, meaning a crit fail or close.

The DM has helpfully said Rewards <= Risks and I am going by what he has said.

To change things up a little, we did Ration Pills and Codiac Artillery planning last turn. So should we maybe implement them this turn? The we can definitely get the pills done this turn, but it only helps light infantry. The artillery is more versatile but will take longer to implement. Also, maybe we should do the void infantry armor upgrading?

@Durin
If you're willing to share that information, what kind of worst case Bad End we're looking at? Is it "Trust and your every character gets killed and wiped away", or "Everything on Avernus is lost and you're banned from it", or something else?
new major chaos force is born, the first attack is on Avernus,

Huh...

Did not expect that.

Ok removing myself from the discussion for real now, since I'm far too conflicted over what to do.

@Durin
1. Funny question: Can Lin's final big bang action be enough to push him over the edge to transcendence?
1. yes it can
@Durin, will Lin's final burnout trait (near the end of his life) increase his piety?
no
I think that since the Shooting Star -> Final Flash change didn't upgrade his piety, we'll need to do lots of research to get the trait on our own.

@Durin, are we allowed to do a "if the vault succeeds, do a writing action" this turn or do we have to wait until next turn?
you can
He found the one queen down there, so he might come back with something as silly as a Stand, an rpg party of monster girls, and Sanguinius. (no, I do not expect and am not trying to add jojo here. Just giving something ridiculous that could happen, just like the other ridiculous things of the quest.)

@Durin do Jacon and Jane still get along?
Jacob and Jane?
yes they do
@Durin
-1. But what kind of charge? Is he charging the guy telling him? Is he charging the Tyranids? Is he charging his weapon?

I think we or the Imperial Trust Guard could probably fill all of the uncorrupted roles a commisar could fill by using unit champions and stealth commissars(internal security?).
The idea is probably much more use to the Trust Guard than us.

-2. Who do we talk to to make this possible?
Can we just say we brought it up with Klovis Ultan and call the idea distributed for further examination without needing to take any further in-quest action, or do we need to set up a meeting with the Inquisition, Security Council and governor of Niflhiem?

Most of our Rogue psykers are as such because they fall to Chaos, and a big chunk of our ability to keep them down is in the forces we array against them. Also I get the impression The Thread didn't want to trade lakes and tech to the Sirens for runes because we'd eventually get them anyway so if I want the lakes idea to be valuable I need to think of an alternate use.

-3. What would trading with the Avernite natives for mercenary forces to fight Rogue psykers cost?
They're essentially Chaos anyway, so it could be pretty cheap.
I'm thinking something a lot like our Primaris response forces maybe? It depends a lot on what kind of role they're best able to fill and whether they have any special uses in this context. We've fought alongside them against Chaos invasions in the past, so this isn't an extreme leap.

-4. Is the Djinn Skein Gladatoria an MIU thing where the simulation exists only in the mind of the soldier, or an environment thing where the soldier moves their body in an emulation environment to experience the simulation?
Because if they're stationary the right medical tech should allow us to pack even more soldiers into a small space in our transports. In fact this idea might be worth looking at for tech development anyways. The effect would be degraded by the volume and maintenence requirements of their equipment, but it might be useful.
They're probably mobile if the system gets used on Avernus though.
1. charge at eithe nids of Amir-Ka
2. you can try, it would have a major impact on unit coherance though, putting a bunch of wierdos with no social skills everywhere causes a few issues. Also their general lack of social skills would greatly hinder them in this role
3. ask them, I gave you diplomacy actions for a reason
4. a mix
@Durin

Does Saint Lin looking at the Well of Eternity risk a bad end like the Primordial Sea does, or is it less dangerous than that?
the worst that can happen there is Saint Lin being totally corrupted and getting a power boost and the consequences that follow
@Durin

Earlier you mentioned that you were suprised that's Lin had managed to get far enough to be able to research the Primordial Sea.

What other things in this quest have managed to surprise you?
cheating, Ridcully, the Oakhearts. Rotbarts initial martial roll

currently doing everything Saint Lin has a 42% chance of failing after tripling down

Well, considering that it is needed high piety, learning and the ability to read the warp (something that, without divine intervantio, is mostly limited to psykers, who needs to focus their effort on control more than anything else), I was just writing the next possible best candidate to reach the levels of saint Lin.
Not really the admech's thing, but Ok.

currently doing everything Saint Lin has a 42% chance of failing after tripling down
AHHHRGH mathhhhhh.

So a 58 chance of success 42 chance of failure.

1. Does the current 58% include the +5 omake bonus?
2. How does Rotbart reallocating a personal action for extra actions in another category work? Can we sacrifice a slot in the corresponding category any time we want to shift the project back to the regular manager to free up a personal action slot?
