I would have preferred waiting the majority of the Progress to end with a bang in Highgarden, especially since it'll probably be the biggest and most watched in Westeros. Along with having the most time to train and mooching away attention from our newborn siblings.

But this tourney had Great in the name and has the momentum behind it, so here we are. Hopefully of any crowds, the predominately Northern commoners will cheer the loudest/not care too much about women warriors.

I'm pretty sure you can always offer that as a challenge, but they're not obligated to accept. Harder to turn down the king's brother than some rando anonymous knight though.

Might also have been an "only in the final round" or a way to contest a disputed victory? I can't imagine that the rules allow you to do that at all the time, or else it would happen all the time.
