Springtime of Nations II: A European Republic Quest

Except from a lecture by Oxford Professor Rupert Alexander-Greenbough, given to the membership of the Anglo-American Friendship Society in September 1897:

Yes, I know this is nonsense. But making up bullshit that sounds academic and corresponds to your biases then stating it confidently is basically how late 19th century brainpan measuring works.

Trying to shoehorn Portugal and Spain in their model is really making a joke of an already stupid racist theory isn't it.

forget all the old war plans - amphibious landing in Norway, let's go :V

also, with regards to the fears of the war bogging down and becoming something like WW1 - important to note that there's still a significant tech gap between the 1890s and the 1910s. the five-round rifle with smokeless powder is basically the pinnacle of small arms, it is true, but artillery has a long way to go. recoil mechanisms and quick firing guns are only just being figured out. factor in the lack of 2 decades of industrial advancement to mass produce shells, etc etc.

it'll definitely be a bloody war but it won't be the western front. especially since it's the eastern front :V

Oh boy, mobilization day came early this year.

Oh.

The incident is in September, our fast mobilization is still in the realm of 2-3 weeks. Our first wave will complete in...mid Fall?, and then winter comes edit: 1 1/2 months later?

Something to keep in mind for our expectations about the upcoming war.

So what you're saying is we'll be in Vienna by Christmas? Excellent.

I wanted to compare our current population to Germany in OTL, and it looks like we're way ahead of the game, so to speak. Germany around 1900 had about 56,37 million people, while we're rocking a whopping 62,77 million in 1897. That childcare and immigration are really paying off.

And that was with a bit more territory, I think.

Even if it was an accident...
No one from the Austrian side of the river attempts to assist with recovery efforts.
Our sailors were dying and the Austrians just watched.

I wanted to believe that there was another way. That maybe the Austrian people would rise and topple their monarchy, like the Italians did.

Fat chance of that happening, though. Very different situation. Either because of true belief, fear or apathy... They will just watch, enduring misery and death under Imperial tyranny.

We will not wait for years. Enough is enough.

We will start this, and we will finish it.

Comrades,
I understand your anger and determination. I do wish to bring up a few items while we are preparing for this great struggle.

  1. The first is that we must prepare for the economic and social dislocation of our civilian population as men are called to arms. Women in the workforce must receive the same pay and benefits as their male coworkers.
  2. We must upgrade our medical system to care for wounded and disabled soldiers and sailors that are moved from the front line to the rear area. We also must work to help them transition back to civilian life once the war is over.
  3. We must stockpile non-perishable food, clothing, medical items etc for refugees from the front lines.
  4. We should also purchase and stockpile critical raw materials and items that we cannot manufacture at home.
  5. Our armed forces should not act as conquerors but liberators and should treat the enemy civilian population and prisoners of war with respect. We do not need to create more guerrillas or future hatred.
Thank You.

Isn't our army integrated? Also, I don't belive there is deffernce in pay based on gender.
Edit: women are citizens, therefore they do national service as everyone else.
