[x] Hinata would be responsible for close protection of Yukie, staying by her side. Hisana and Karin would be responsible for intercepting threats before they could make contact, and patrolling around the boat.

Hinata actually like the girl (at least so far), is generally nice and her main proficiency is obviously cqc which meshes best with bodyguard duty.
Karin wants action, and bodyguard duty is exactly where she would be least likely to get some...
Hisana... is probably better to keep away from toxic!Yukie. Maybe once she gets some sense and responsability beaten into her think skull, but for now, Hisana is more likely to bite her head off than give her the time of day.

[x] Hisana was wary of changes already made, and decided to wait and see.

In last chap Hisana wanted to keep as close to canon as possible, i see no reason for her to backtrack right at the start of the mission.

As others have said Karin is our tank which means she is best suited to defending the principal while our attacking specialists proactively deal with threats.

I'm assuming these are all good.
There haven't been any edits to the character sheet since then so they should be accurate.

Hinata has her Protecting Eight Trigrams for countering ranged attacks, probably has the social training to handle a princess/movie star, and the Byakugan works just as well next to Yuki as it does anywhere else.

I'd go for the confronting route if we had anything except for Hisana's transmigrate knowledge. Since that is all we have, it has already been demonstrated to be inaccurate due to outsider actors, and could lead to questions we don't want being asked asked it is best to avoid confronting him for now.

Analysis seems sound to me, so:

[x] Hisana decided to confront Sandayū, trusting that his general motivation was still the same.

I'm actually going to dissent completely, although I don't see anything explicitly wrong with Hinata as bodyguard and with keeping things secret. But I do think that whoever is in close contact with Yukie will have quite a bit of influence on how she sees the group and maybe Karin's more open personality could help establishing a rapport with Yukie eventually. I also think that if we confront Sandayū on motive grounds (which shouldn't be too affected) we might receive the up-to-date intelligence that we lack, it just depends how it's done. We can use motivation or his personal history as a reason while leaving unreliable future knowledge aside unmentioned.

e: There's also the advantage that if we have to split into two mission groups, one protecting Yukie and one off doing something, both groups will have someone with canon knowledge.

Since we don't have Naruto, Hinata will have to step up to bat in his place. GO GO HINATA-CHAN!

Also, I am half convinced that Sandayu is mentally... not all there. So desperate for the good old days that he can't see or think clearly if canon actions are any indication. So I prefer a watch and learn approach to this situation. Plus, there is a decent chance that the Trench Coats have already contacted him and made a deal for the technology in exchange for them aiding the Rebels.
Fuck, we might actually see them as ALLIES for part of the damn mission if my worst fears are confirmed... Just enough for Hinata to make Yukie come out of her shell and start sending Hiashi some 'interesting' letters later on, before turning on us.

@Tekomandor: What are the costs associated with Hinata's byakugan? Can she maintain it full-time while on guard? Is the cost purley a function of how long she has it up, or is there an additional cost for each activation? Does she have any enhanced vision when it isn't activated? (The fact that she can see without pupils suggests she should.)

It's been years so I've forgotten things, has she the confidence to handle Yuki?

Karin has the best skillset for defense, but... I doubt we want Karin and our client to suffer each others' presence.
"Urghh, please tell it's not guard duty for some spoiled princess-type... FUCK"

Positives for Hinata:
  • Empathetic/can deal with the emotional side of things. This is important because a large part of our mission will depend on the psychology of the client and her future actions.
  • She is extremely good at spotting things that are out of place, which could really help for an early warning system in case she needs to call in backup. I consider bodyguard as the more important role for being alert, as this is the last layer of defence before we fail our mission.
  • She is more effective in tight/enclosed spaces which is where a client assassination is more likely to take place. In contrast, if the perimeter scouting encounters opposition, they're more free to choose the location of engagement.
  • Her combat style is more skewed towards fast lethality and disabling. This reduces risk for our client through reduction of overall combat time and a progressive reduction in enemy agency - As opposed to Karins more brute force style of combat that lacks these aspects.
  • By taking the bodyguard slot, she frees up both heavy hitters of the team to engage in pitched combat, which gives the team a greater likelihood of success. Particularly this gives Karin room to do her thing and fully go all out, which is such a good distraction that it's practically another form of bodyguarding.
  • Her taking this role suits the psychological requirements of both Hinata and Karin; Hinata because she gets to chat/interact with her idol and Karin because she really wants to get out there and fight.
Negatives for Hinata:
  • Her skill set is less flexible in application than Karins is, meaning that her success in combat against unknown opponents is less certain than if Karin were to take her place. And if she's caught in a situation to her detriment, she will be less able to relocate due to her needing to protect the client.
  • She has no healing jutsu that can be used on the fly, meaning that unless a teammate reinforces her, she will not be able to heal the client should they be injured.
Positives for Karin:
  • She is an immensely effective healer, possibly to a practically greater extent than even Tsunade, in the field. We can be safe in the knowledge that unless Karin is killed, no harm will befall our client.
  • Karin is the most powerful team member besides Hisana, and only then because Hisana has a very lethal and well developed combat style. Therefore we can reliably expect for her to protect the client regardless of who shows up.
  • Karin is an Isekai like us and thus has access to knowledge that she might need in the Bodyguard role, depending on who shows up to off the client. As a result she has options available to her that Hinata doesn't which might swing a fight depending on the circumstances.
  • Karin is physically stronger than Hinata and thus more capable of being mobile whilst protecting/carrying the client. As a result she has more of a chance to choose her battlefield than Hinata does, giving her the opportunity to truly go all out - There will also be less risk of her being caught flat footed.
Negatives of Karin:
  • Psychologically, Karin is not a good fit for this postition both socially and with regards to potential lack of combat. Regardless of the points i've made above, the bodyguard role is far less likely to see action and i cannot see karin doing well if so. I have a feeling she is hoping to prove her worth as partner to someone who can 1v1 a healthy kimimaru.
  • karin is such an asset to the team combat wise that putting her in such a position will greatly diminish our capabilities. Whilst understandable as a precaution in succeeding the mission, it's extremely wasteful to bench her like this.

Karin is an absurd sensor. So absurd that she probably doesn't actually need to be near the client to keep an eye on her, but I'm playing it safe here.

I don't think the situation with Yuki is much of any different from canon- its introduction is too similar for that to be plausible. Still, Hisana doesn't actually have any way of knowing this info outside of her canon knowledge, so maybe best not to confront him on it.

5xp for this one. Scarily plausible AU.
10xp for a very good alternate perspective.

Inspired by a nightmare involving the Gaidame Hokague, Hisana decides to get swol. 15xp to Strength. :V

(Seems like the best of the low hanging fruit options- while Taijutsu will only be a factor if things go catastrophically wrong, Strength does factor into her sword style even if at a reduced rate.)

Bodyguarding is as much a matter of temperament as it is of skillset.
Karin does not have the temperament to handle a pouty princess type, and her skillset does not lend itself to a defensive posture, healing or not.
Hisana could do it, but is too valuable to be stuck there.

Hinata is trained to be courteous, and as the Hyuuga are acknowledged to be nobility, she flatters Yukie's ego if that plays a factor.
Plus, she actually might be able to relate to Yukie's problems; the pressures and expectations of being Hyuga clan heir and being a royal princess heir to a country aren't all that different.

Her having access to Hyuga defensive techniques is just icing on the cake.

As for Hisana?
She needs rather more intel than she currently has before jumping to conclusions about Sandayu's motivations here.
Assumptions make an ass et cetera.

That could actually be a point against Hinata. You're coming at this from a political angle and while this particular point should be a plus, it's only a sure thing on paper.

Considering that this woman got ran out of her house and home, lost her family, had to change her name and spent the last decade (or so) on the run because of the games of the nobility... Hinata's regal disposition might rub her the wrong way.

It might remind her too much of her childhood, too much of herself at one point in her life and I don't think it's unreasonable to think that Koyuki would lash out at someone that made her uncomfortable on such a raw level.

That's my read, anway. I voted for Hinata strictly for tactical reasons. I don't know if Karin would keep her cool with Koyuki, but I know that we could and Hinata could.

EDIT:
Plus, she actually might be able to relate to Yukie's problems; the pressures and expectations of being Hyuga clan heir and being a royal princess heir to a country aren't all that different.

Only if she's willing to open up. That woman has been a closed book for a long time.

That conversation could definitely happen, should definitely happen. It'd be good for them both to relate as they can over being/feeling powerless.

But that requires emotional honesty from someone who's really not in the mood for that, at the moment.
