In Sonic 06' Eggman glasses serve as a short range detector of Chaos Emeralds and in Sonic Frontiers: Final Horizon were used to aim the cannon he picked with the Egg Mobile.
Anti brainwashing would probably be part of a Starline counter wouldn't it?

You could always say the glasses Eggman's is currently wearing are not his usual ones, since they are from Mr. Thinker.

It could be part of a old concept that the doctor wanted to make his glasses as short range detectors of Chaos Emerald and have connection to the Eggnet to command his badniks and pilot vehicles more efficiently but end up entirely forgetting about it.
Like Sonic 06's never happen true but the concept of the Egg Wyvern and Egg Gunner were not erased, they simple were never produced even the Egg Carrier from Sonic 06's were also not produced as well.
