On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

golem reindeer does have its benefit, tough mount that can traverse terrain, infinite stamina, can pull heavy loads, mount we can fight on and command without fail., put a flame thrower in its mouth.

- Trollbane: Trolls will fear you and your works, the echoes of your deed filling their minds with terror. The terrible ruination you dealt upon the trolls this day marks your presence both in history and the metaphysical realm.
The thing about Trolls not just fearing Snorri, but his works has me actually hoping for a Wargear Request. Sounds like we could make the Kraka Drak Throng very adept at killing Trolls.

On another note, I hope that this deed will help in getting more colonists to come to Kraka Drak. This is the era where the Dwarfs actually have plenty of numbers (Grimnir was noted to have launched sallies against the First Chaos Incursion with an army of millions), so hopefully we can get Kraka Drak to be heavily settled by the time the incursion actually happens.

Though between the Hold of the Indebted and the Gromril Strike, it does seem that Kraka Drak is already getting a much larger influx of settlers than it did canonically. Hopefully that trend continues, and with all the Trolls dead the roads should at least be safer.

Trolls are literally too stupid to know fear usually.

Well, we are pretty close to Troll Country...which might not be characterized as such yet, at this point in time, so maybe they're more migrants from the mountains or even the far north, pushed into the lower lands and caves by the Dwarf migrations.

And maybe we can deck it in a massive cape-banner of rune-etched troll flesh leather...
Ew, no troll leather on our shiny Gromril Golem(s).

Meh, as long as there arent many more Daemon Trolls it's mostly just a free hunting range so long as proper precautions are taken and they arent allowed to group.

Troll Steak is good eating and the reagents are nice too. Kraka Drakk could use a second major export and Troll products sounds like a safe bet.:V

I'm not sure about the golem and regeneration item for the Heart.

As for the regeneration item, wouldn't the heart be a little overkill? Just going from the description, it seems like a "troll's regeneration" item made from it would shade more toward "the man regenerates his entire body from his head" levels, and you could make something more... restrained from some amount of regular troll hearts, skin and brains.

For the golem, I'm not sure it'd be possible for a gromril golem to have a regenerative effect without it breaking the system in a ("ok, the golem's X by Y by Z in dimension, each month we use the dwarfen atom smasher to tear off it's arm, and use that for other projects while the arm grows back through the ineffable power of chaos.") sort of way.

I was thinking more of a fast self repair function. Like Iron Giant style. You actually breathe pieces off a Gromril Golem just to have the pieces move back and join together.

That has an easy solution in terms of stopping powergaming.
"Yeah, the leftover gromril from the arm you hacked off the golem? You see after a day, that it begins to decay and crumble. Pretty soon, all that is left is dust. You think it has something to do with how the residual conseptual acidic nature of trolls *mumblemumble* woven into the gromril on a very fundamental level *longbeardgrumbling*, rule of symphatetic preservation of pure gromril and the other enchantments *mrhhmrmuring*"

In the end, I think the GM will do what the GM will do.

The second failstate of the system comes with the problem of how exactly one will break a golem of statue scale made primarily out of granite or some other hard stone plated entirely in Gromril and then reinforced by runes. Likely including a modification of the Master Rune of Waking made to incorporate the troll heart as an ingredient to give it some stupendous vitality as well as runes of stone and/or steel to reinforce it.

That's non-trivial to try and break it, even with runecrafted waepons or like, dragonfire at the highest end.

The first state is a case of personal choice and what we determine can actually be done with the thing.

E: and regard less whatever we make will be entirely one of a kind and impossible to reproduce except plausibly in a lesser state

It's also probably very against the Dwarf mindset to deliberately break something you made. If Snorri made such a masterpiece, I doubt he'd even consider that as an option.

Anyway weve got a shit tone of Ice Troll reagemts now. I wanna try and see if we cant make some custom runes. Like in the Glory and Grudge squest. They had a bunch of Troll based runes didnt they? Rune of Avalance and stuff? Ice Trolls seem appropriate for that. Regeneration and Frost Rune variants? Could be neat.

Alright, so with our fancy new tier five-ingredient we have a few options open to us that allow us to do some crazy stuff. First off, from the ingredient itself, it looks like whatever we use it with will have a regenerating effect. Hopefully, whatever we use it for will be free of the corruption that marked the greedy one, but that's the thing. What are we going to use it for? A few ideas have been thrown around. From iron giant style golems of Gromil to talismans that would give Snorri a regeneration effect equal to or greater than most trolls.

The thing is, with a gromil golem, we are going to take quite some time to actually build the thing. First, the infrastructure of the hold still needs to be added to, not to mention that we need to mine out the gromil necessary to make that happen. Then comes construction, which, to be frank, will take a large portion of our actions and detract from the majority of our time. Not that the efforts wouldn't be worth it. The sheer power that would come from such a creation would boost our reputation significantly as well as secure against most threats for quite some time.

Next, a talisman to give Snorri regeneration on par with or greater than the average troll. First off, troll regeneration is broken. This can not be denied. Unless they are killed with fire they can come back from almost anything. I tried looking into it and I could not find any sources about how long a troll can live for, but suffice it to say, I think that they don't have to worry about the wear and tear of age.

Meaning that perhaps with enough research, we could add the hearts potency to our own and extend our lifespan. By this I mean creating a item that links snorri to the heart, not putting it inside ourselves. Dwarves normally live up to 500 years with rune smiths. (Like Snorri) living up to 600-700. Since we already avenged our grudges we don't have hate to keep us going (Looking at you Krag the Grimm). That being said, apart from potentially extending our lifespan it would provide a fantastic safety net towards making sure that we don't die and living long enough to help the hold through the trying times to come. Of course, this itself will take a significant portion of time as well since we would need to research everything.

Outside of that, I would suggest that we wait before doing anything with the heart. It's not going anywhere and we will want to get our hands on some other materials before we make anything truly incredible with it. That, and somehow getting access to an Anvil of Doom would make things far easier in the future. Though that would no doubt require a truly absurd number of favors to burn. That being said, perhaps, and this is a long shot, we could make one of our own. That being said, making an anvil of doom would be an end game goal.

Yeah, I guess immortality would probably convince me to make a personal artifact with the heart. With 10 year turns we will probably reach the age where this will really matter to us if this quest goes on for particularly long

We won't by word of GM, we can live as long as we please. Using the heart for life extension is superfluous to our own lifespan.

GM has noted that golden age dwarfs live between 600-650 years and runesmiths live even longer.

As others have said, you personally won't need to worry about dying from old age, Runelords die when they run out of stuff to do and you have active Runelords who were personally taught by Thungni. In the golden age, for a variety of reasons, its not uncommon for dwarfs to get to 600-650.

Anyway, in terms of the heart it is so powerful that we don't really have the tools to properly make use of it, because its the sort of thing that gets put into a new and extremely powerful Master Rune and our workshop can't handle researching Master Runes. That's one issue, not even counting researching the heart itself to find out the plausible limits that could be done with it and then the next issue of building up to be able build something that can handle those lmits.

So we likely can't make immediate use of it to its utmost potential. Which means we have to sit on it, which is fine since we have a lot of build up to do and Yorri's sites provide places to find complementary secondary ingredients. Going through all of those should net us a bundle of things useful to crafting, both with and without the heart.

So we should come up with use ideas, but they will all take time.

It'd probably be more like an Archimedes Mirror arrangement, and given that it'd be channeling either sunlight, runelight or firelight it might also channel some amounts of Hysh or Aqshy or nothing but light. And we know the Gates have been broken from GM statement and bits of various updates including the first.

I'm hoping for a Hysh Lazergrid of Mirrors for the Hold. Probably all Masterwork though so would be resource intensive. But worth it.

So, I don't know the Dwarven ancient history very well, when do guns get invented and where, is it likely to be soon? Or will we have to wait a while. Only asking because I imagine many of our runes will have even better benefits when combined with technology, each thing pushing the other forward in effectiveness.

Also, are the sky titans still a thing? Did they get gunpowder and cannons before the dwarves? If so, I hope we can find and save a few titans before the ogres eat them all in the mountains of Mourne, even if we just save the little baby titans like the dwarf Santa we are (riding in on our sleigh, in silence, smuggling the crying child titans out under cover of darkness while the ogres burn their city around them, don't know why I thought of this)

Oh, that's good, then I rescind my previous statement

Agreed, though I think everyone who was stating ideas was saying it as just initial impressions, but we should research it to do it as best we possibly can. I mean, I could definitely see us not using this until we can make something out of entirely tier 5 material, or at least mostly tier 5 with bits of tier 4 filling in the gaps

Even an initially Archimedes mirror type set up enhanced with different runes could probably result in good lasers, probably
Edit: if it used the magic or light from other runes to do it, that is, rather than sunlight
Would be funny if we made laser guns before we got gunpowder, but even if it's too big to be dwarf portable, we could still make use of it as a big Ole army or ship killer.
