On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

[X] Refuse the Title of Heir: [Cost: Nothing] Gain ???. You will take up this hammer, you will use it, but you are your own Dwarf with your own goals. The burden of carrying Thungni's Will, of being His Heir, is one you choose not to carry. Someone or no one can claim it for all you care, but it will not be you.

[X] Claim the Title of Heir: [Cost: ???] Gain title: Heir of Thungni, ??? You claim a position that has remained in doubt since Durin died. By Thungni's word, the hammer you would now wield confirms that you are His Heir. Elevating your authority to that of the Ancestor's eldest children, living or dead. You would not, could not be a tyrant of course, but still.

We have gone this far, doubling back at the last second is a bit too much for me at least. And the thing that I haven't seen mentioned (might be cuz I'm blond lol) is that whether we mark ourselves as Heir or not, the rest of the Karaz-Ankor will have their own views on it and I think more than a few will see this as Snorri being chosen as Heir.

Another point, is that just by claiming the Hammer, we take more responsibilities and will have more politicking and influence, and therefore problems that will take Snorri's attention and time away from research and rune-making.

Which boils this down to it being a personal view on the matter rather than a pure objective acknowledgement. Another test of character in a way and something I believe we are already in too deep to ignore and say -
"Nay, tis but a hammer. No title or position is gained from it. You think it'll look good on my wall, Kaz?"

And in my view Snorri has always been of the philosophy - I ask not for a lighter burden, but for broader shoulders.

I've caught up with latest page and I just want to say all these discussions were quite entertaining. Both sides had good insightful arguments, it kinda gave runesmiths debating in Khazagar vibe. Good thing no one declared any grudges (yet?:thonk:) :V

I say we take it. Thungni clearly wants someone to fill the role and, unless he has a backup, we're the only person that can make the claim.

Where will we find room for Shinies if we're swamped with duty?
I'm sorry to tell you this chief, but we will get most of that duty even if we deny being Heir, or at least that's how I see it. Just claiming the Hammer and passing the trials for it is reason enough to be regarded as something close to an Heir even if we try our best to deny it.

Besides we don't need to obsess over where the action gained from having the hammer will go, it'll be locked into politicking, so everything works out in the end, and besides having bigger title will lead to bigger shinies.

It has been foretold, and so it shall be.

Just an FYI this won't be counted properly unless you copy and paste the entire block. You can see other people's posts as examples.

I did go back and forth a lot on this. But, i do feel there is a sort of implicit promise and duty in taking up the hammer.

I still wait for the day when we make Bugman Beer or something close to it so the dawi won't go beer hunting for the Limited Edition Bugman has around if he loses his family

I believe the ancestors left so the Dawi could grow to be their equals rather than eternally be cast in their shadow. With that in mind I don't want us to take that title, I want us to strive to be equal to an ancestor god.
