Generally, separating your perspective from the perspective of others? I'm honestly not sure how to generalize the advice "the bit about not wanting to have to read it probably should have been a separate sentence".
 
I would prefer to auto-ask (it seems safe to share the info with a tight-knit group, and Blake's safety takes priority), but am also mostly okay with waiting until after joining.

At the very least, I'd strongly prefer if we ignore the voices until then. The idea that potential demons/fey should be considered a reliable source about their own motivations is kinda baffling to me, honestly.

I find both of the front runners acceptable, really. My own aptitudes and preferences run slightly to the technical side, but I'm fairly sure this will turn out interesting regardless.

Even if we accidentally bury the city in demon cats. Demon cats are still interesting.
 
I probably should've phrased the question as "if people want to interrupt the timeskip for actions other than 'do your best to ignore the voices,' or if you would prefer to choose a course of action after you've joined a Guild." Looks like the latter anyway, though.

I'd rather wait to ask about voices until after we talk to the warlock a bit more, but i'm not strongly opposed to asking beforehand either.

I don't hate any of the options, but what makes my choice is I want to spend more time back on Remnant and exploring MGLN, and having a small, tight knit group seems makes it more difficult for us to disappear for long periods without feeling like we're abandoning family.

Eh. Between all the online databases and Google Scholar, it's a lot easier to find sources on your own than it used to be. That does require an ability to select the right search terms and the patience to sift through them, but those skills aren't actually that hard to acquire, really. Then again, I've also been told that's one of those "it's easy for me, not necessarily for others" things.

Honestly, understanding sources properly is usually harder than finding them. Especially old ones. I've tried to decode a nearly 200 year old chemistry paper before, and it was a real pain, due to the antiquated and lack of standardized terminology. Ancient historical records are generally orders of magnitude worse, due to even greater potential for bias, reliance on common understandings of the day, and potential for linguistic confusion. There's generally not a whole lot of metaphor, simile, innuendo, or allegory in scientific papers, even old ones.
 
Finding sources is only first part of the job, understanding them and collating existing information into useful form is not easy.
And even with the internet, not all information is easily available, especially when you need them in quotable form and do not have money to pay subscription to all possible databases.
It is easy to gain a superficial understanding on lot of stuff, but going in depth is a full time job.

And i think the point was that with Fairy Tail being pre internet society, people are underestimating the difficulty of finding out info on planeswalkers and how big of a deal the archeology guild would be in helping with that.
Not sure i agree that this is happening here, but there is a point in not underestimating how difficult research may end up being.

Learning about planeswalking and tomb delving sound much more interesting than anything A.E has to offer. I will be really disappointed now if we end up in A.E.
 
Alright, so I've learned to keep notes that actually log the results of in-thread rolls rather than just hyperlinking to them (and to keep a backup of thread chapters). The bad news is that I wasn't able to go in order for the next post as a result of the Great Flood.

The good news is that I still averaged about 1k words a day since the last vote locked. It's just for the tail-end of upcoming events rather than going in order. Next story post will likely have a vote break much earlier than might be reflected by that, but I'll still keep the content for later use.
 
Not sure if it was intentional but the way the auto translation works feels absolutely horrifying. If I've understood it correctly she is unable to learn any new words or language concepts in exchange for having everything she hears and reads translated into the closest equivalent expression which she already knows. And everything she says seem to be filtered the same way.

Imagine having your vocabulary frozen. The words and grammar you know now is all you will ever know and ever hear. All while knowing that the world around you continues to change. That the gap between what you hear and what people actually say is slowly getting wider and wider.

In all seriousness, Blake suspects that she'll eventually be able to override the auto-translate and learn languages properly. The verbal translator is a crutch and one that she honestly doesn't mind, considering the high likelihood of there being dozens of languages for her to worry about throughout her travels. Her issues with literacy partly demonstrate how much worse things could get.

That's a relief because I was honestly pretty disturbed by this.
