Extrapolating from how it worked in Ignition. Basic artifice is a colorless skill, and artifacts of all colors exist, but Blue is generally the best at it. Kind of comes with being the utility color.
It's because Blue's mental focus includes a lot of science/scientists (though particular mad scientists may be black or red).

Angel's Eye seems really counterproductive to being able to disappear without notice whenever Blake wants. Also, while we can take classes with the Sylphs even if we're part of Liquid Horizon, there's no way we can "have our cake and eat it too". By this, I mean that there must be some sort of trade-off for not actually joining the artificers' guild. Off the top of my head, the drawbacks I can think of are having to balance our time between exploring & taking classes and trying to come up with the money to pay for classes.

Not sure which of the two styles is correct, so I'll just do both? I've seen other people do that.

Blake thinks the trade-off is simply the fact that they won't train you past the basics unless you join up, and the time expenditure (and money expenditure if the teachers feel someone is wasting their time, but Blake will call BS if they try to pull that with her). If you want more than the basics without being part of their Guild, then yes, you'd probably have to pay someone to teach you. (Or find someone else willing to do so.)

EDIT: Also, classes wouldn't be all day, every day, yet you'd still be stuck near that location. 4 hours a day, 6 days a week, and you wouldn't be the only student.

[X] Speak to Angel's Eye about the voices before approaching anyone to join.

Ah, I'll take that intent into account, but people should know that a normal without sub-options (and without telling me otherwise) is being generally counted toward "after joining a Guild, and without investigation of the voices as an interfering priority."
Honestly, I'd be fine with that too.

I still just think artifice is worth more to Faunus rights when you get home to remnant than personal powers.

Improper Foster Protocol

"I'm taking her home," Erica Fritz said within two seconds of seeing Blake through the one-way window.

Mike could only sigh. Miss Fritz was not the first possible parent to immediately fixate on a child, and he sincerely doubted she would be the last. Orphaned children seldom accepted such enthusiasm, however, especially when they were within a few years of adulthood themselves.

"Miss Fritz, you would do well to remember that Miss Belladonna is not a pet. She was severely burned and heavily bleeding when we found her, and her reluctance to speak of her past makes it likely that she was subjected to terribl–why are you standing so close to the window?"

It took him precious seconds to cross the intervening distance and realize what Miss was up to. By then, it was far too late. Miss Fritz had already long since cast the minimal-powered version of a spell which had likely started life as an artillery target designator.

Blake pounced on the wiggling red dot right before his horrified eyes.

Hello, world(walker)!

There was something viscerally wrong about the clearing Blake found herself in. It wasn't the lack of birdsong; wildlife frequently quieted when predators and people were passing through. Wind was hard to perceive when it was slow enough, and sunlight seemed to dimly illuminate the clearing without issues.

No, it was the smell — or more accurately, a complete lack thereof. There should have been something. The grass, animals, the trees, pollen carried upon the wind, her own sweat, anything.

Kitty, kitty, we do greet,
Kitty, kitty, such a treat!

Blake twitched and warily scanned her surroundings. She'd read enough to be wary of voices spontaneously singing within abnormal woods, especially when those voices seemed to be omnidirectional.

Kitty, kitty, take a seat,
Kitty, kitty, watch us cheat!

A black cat trotted out of grass too short to hold it, its teeth bared in what could charitably be called a smile. The fact that the expression was on a cat made it look more like a threat no matter how friendly the voices sounded—but that couldn't be right. They wouldn't hurt her.

Kitty, kitty, fair and fleet,
Kitty, kitty, we should meet!

Blake tried to open her mouth to comment on their current meeting and abruptly realized she didn't have a mouth. Thankfully, she also didn't have a nose, hands, or even eyes. She was dreaming, wasn't she? That was a relief.

Kitty, kitty, such small feet,
Kitty, kitty, soft and sweet,

The clearing abruptly vanished and left Blake staring at a glowing pair of slitted yellow eyes within the endless abyss.

Tell us, kitty, what is "yeet"?

I cast yeet tabaxi. (That's lightning lure with the sea sorcery bloodline for those of you who speak French)

Archeology is probably the biggest tool here that would help elsewhere as far as the guilds go, with artifacts as a close second that can get picked up through the classes, possibly from some members of LH (wait... L Horizon... hmmm) or potentially in other settings. By which I mean the skills needed to do archaeology of the magical sort. How to find places is just a magic ping for Blake it seems, but there's a lot in how to approach locations and what sort of details to look for, how to interpret nonmagical evidence, etcetera she could pick up here that would be pretty handy in just about any setting with Old Stuff - like, uh, RWBY or MGLN.

Angel's Eye would also be useful and fun, though. Small batch of dysfunctional friends seems like something Blake could also learn a lot from.
