Renascence: A Homura Quest

It's better to have Kyouko turn off her enchantment rather than Enchanting Sayaka. We don't want Sayaka noticing magic yet. Plus, I doubt our Enhance Other is anywhere near as effective as the baseline MG enchantments.
We can have Kyouko turn it off just by messaging her with the wager. Lunch vs information or a magic lesson.

At this point, no, we don't know that it's Excalibur. I'm calling it that simply to have a name for it other than "that sword Sayaka got for her wish", and because it seems to be the closest match to the description Yuuko gave.
Fair enough.

As for if/how it manifests: again, no, we don't know. All we know is that Yuuko said "it will grant you the power you need, once you're ready."
What power, though, and how do we know if she's ready? I mean, for all we know, the sword could be Shieldbreaker or Townsaver, which arguably would fit the definition of no longer being human while wielding it (especially Townsaver ... Townsaver vs Walpurgisnacht? *shudder*). A major problem throughout this quest, I think: We don't have enough information to make certain decisions.

Just some thoughts of mine:
* DDR: The girl says she was near to tears from Kyouko's bad-mouthing ... but that honestly doesn't tell us much. When I was sixteen, being in the same room as someone being scolded for inappropriate behavior could get me shaking, and it took basically no effort to make me break down in tears. I doubt it's worth following up on the girl to get more information, though.

* Kyouko's situation: Canon is mostly reliable, IIRC, apart from some details. That doesn't mean wholly reliable, though, and there are noticeable butterflies already. Kyouko is probably still a lone wolf, but may be more amenable to friendship; moreover, since Sayaka is, at this point, a normal human, Kyouko has no reason to be actively hostile.

* Sayaka: Finding her a Cause is probably going to be helpful, the earlier the better. She offered to be our bodyguard; that would be useful in a number of ways, not least of which is that once we do explain that we're a magical girl, we can probably help teach her how to fight - Sayaka isn't that great in canon mainly because she doesn't get time to figure out how to fight and relies on speed and durability. Getting her awareness up and giving her a defensive goal should up her survivability by making sure she doesn't throw herself onto a tree just because she can tank it.

* The run in general: It's not an information-gathering run ... but it's an information-gathering run. Homura needs to recognize that her timeline foreknowledge is going to be less accurate; AFAIK, she relies a lot on what she already "knows" will happen, but with that information beginning to be shadowed by the interference, more allies and better on-foot-thinking is needed.

Skills:
...
Melee (10/100)
...

Homura's been looping a long time. A VERY long time. Along the way, she's picked up some skills. Pick 5. The top 5 will be granted 30 points towards their mastery. You get Marksmanship (100/100), Bomb Making (50/100), Medical (10/100), and Melee (20/100) by default.
Typo?

Yeah, rereading the update, I lost track of a lot of the details provided while building out my speculations. Possibly because I got too engrossed in the details from the update that I'd missed earlier, and was building on them more than on the most recent ones.

Corrections to my speculations:
  1. The girl already feels Sayaka has 'saved' her. How Sayaka feels is unknown, but will assume it matches.
  2. Homura states that Sayaka isn't 'likely' to win this, despite the superhuman boost Kyouko is giving herself. The line can actually be read that Kyouko gave herself an enchantment while Homura was watching (ie: in the middle of the song; can you clarify, @Higure?). If that's the case, it means Kyouko actually had to boost herself in order to be 'likely' to win. Even if she does win, she'll probably still respect Sayaka for the challenge.
  3. Allowing for the above, the Excalibur manifestation is unlikely.
  4. If they are actually enjoying the match against each other, the antagonistic issues are no longer issues.
  5. If there are no antagonistic issues, the MG reveal can be put off; Kyouko and Sayaka can get along as friendly rivals, have a few matches, then we can all go grab some dinner.
Overall, the encounter is far less stressful than I was worried about.

I would still do the MG reveal by the end of the night (probably a telepathic "Thank you" by the end of dinner), but not immediately, so as not to put Kyouko on guard while everyone's still getting to know each other.

[X] Telepathy Kyouko, 'That's hardly sporting. What would it take for you to drop the enchantment and give my friend a chance? A Grief Seed, money, free food?'

Just an aside, we don't have any Grief Seeds yet - we'd need to hunt for two in order to honor this if Kyouko calls it, and that would be likely to lower our standing in her eyes. Don't make a bet if you can't cover it with your current resources.

Agreed on the lack of information. And had completely forgotten about the Twelve Swords as potentials. Yeah, some of those could be... interesting. Woundhealer would also fit the technicalities of the wish, and gives the potential for bizarre results such as actually 'curing' witches.

Whose flesh the Sword of Mercy hurts has drawn no breath,
Whose soul it heals has wandered in the night,
Has paid the summing of all debts in death
Has turned to see returning light.

Too beta, TBD. This is almost asking Kyouko to crush Sayaka, just because we don't want her to. We want to interest her, not ask for mercy. Kyouko has a heavy predator instinct, imagine her grin when we ask her nicely to lay off.
I'm not saying that we should be caustic, but we cannot appear to have the lower hand. We should be respectful, but slightly dangerous. That's‏ ‏why I want to bet, I want to have Kyouko recategorize us from 'People who don't matter' to 'People who have my attention' due to the potential risk and reward we pose. Without the risk, we're just chumps, not equals.

May I suggest the following addition:

[x] Do nothing.
-[x] Cheer Sayaka on, win or lose. If she's upset, mention that the girl she helped doesn't care that she lost.

[x]Try to befriend Kyouko
-[x]As a normal girl.
--[x]By asking if she wants to join us for dinner after those hard fought matches, our treat, unless Sayaka looks openly opposed to interacting further with her.

And if and when we're called out on being a magical girl during dinner, I suggest the following telepathy:
"I'm Akemi Homura." (Depending on if introductions have been made or not.) "I'm in Mitikihara to protect a friend. And to hunt the witch known as Walpurgisnacht."
Followed by reassuring her we won't get in her way, if appropriate for the conversation.

Why that approach?
- It's the truth.
- It triggers her sympathy to selflessness.
- It establishes ourselves as either a badass or completely insane, either of which is intriguing. Remember, canonically Kyouko had heard of Walpurgisnacht before.
- It purposely separates us from the territory
game, moving us out of the 'threat' category in her mind.

Good idea on the addition.

Heh. You forgot 'Adfligo Systema', 'PriscillaQuest', 'RedSoul', 'Strangers in Magical Sand', 'MamiQuest' and 'Payback' on the "yet to fall" list, Bleach.

Red Soul?

And more on topic,

[ ] Do nothing.

I'll concede my reactions leaned a bit too much to the paranoid side. I'll go with SWB's proposal.

Sayaka is quick, and Kyouko isn't pushing her enchantments far enough to be obviously supernatural. Kyouko will win, assuming she doesn't mess up and Sayaka doesn't get a boost somehow, but not by too much.

Sorry for the long delay. RL's had me busy today. Will probably put up the Kyouko files in roughly 2 hours, once I'm at my pc.

Heh? So there is a good chance that Kyouko will be impressed wit Sayaka, if we don't intervene? Could we threw a dice for it?

Edit : Not the best threw... Kyouko isn't exactly impressed with Sayaka's attitude ...
Draggon73 threw 1 100-faced dice. Reason: Kyouko impresed with Sayaka Total: 59
59 59
