No update tonight. My dog broke out and nearly suffered heatstroke, leading to freaking out and family drama.

No time or energy to write. Will be back tomorrow, God willing.

Showing Sayaka Your Inner Self
[x] Try to snap her out of it.
-[x] Grab Sayaka in a tight hug. You don't know what she saw, but if she saw your legend...

You decide the possible risk of interrupting her is less than the risk of her seeing your entire history...secrets aside, you don't remember a lot of it, and you get the feeling that's for the best. To shove all that onto someone like Sayaka...

You sidestep out of line of sight before stepping close and taking her by the shoulders, "Sayaka! Get back out here! NOW!"

Your blood boils for a moment as you command the teen, like your father taught you...the man isn't much of an Akemi, with his lack of Clockmaking skills, but he did inherit the Akemi force of personality.

Sayaka jerks out of her trance as deep rooted instincts compel obedience, and you relax, pulling her into an embrace, "...sorry I had to do that. Are you okay? What did you..."

Sayaka doesn't say anything for a moment, continuing to tremble, and you think something might have broken inside her...until you feel your shirt growing wet with tears.

You pull back, looking at her. Her tear-filled eyes are back to their natural blue again, and her expression is one of utter horror.

You brace yourself, locking down your emotions for what's to come.

"...how? How are you...?"

You didn't expect a question. You suppose this Sayaka will at least try to think before turning on you...that's something, "How am I what, Sayaka?"

Her gaze is unfocused, staring through you, but they remain blue as she continues, "How are you alive, Homura? I...I can't even hold onto it! Your Legend, it's just...too much for a mind to grasp...I...I think you scared the Sword, Homura."

You blink slowly, "...ah, regrettable. What do you think of it, Sayaka? What do you think of Me?"

She sighs heavily, lowering herself to the ground and staring at the sky, her body still shaking, "...I think you're insane. No offense, but...that isn't something a person can live through without breaking, not without becoming something borderline inhuman. I..."

She jerks up suddenly, rushing to vomit in a nearby trashcan. You follow, pulling her hair back for her. You'd done that for Kyouko before, after a particularly vertigo-inducing Witch Barrier.

Sayaka straightens, and her eyes grow steely (only figuratively, thankfully) as she stares directly at you, smoldering with anger.

'Here it comes..."

She grabs you by the shoulder almost violently, "WHAT THE HELL!? Why the FUCK are you going through this thing alone!? I can't even see the shit that you've been through, but I can see the marks it left on you! The Process of Creation! How is there anything left?!"

You hold your emotions in check. You aren't sure what's going on inside her head, but you can't risk giving Grief an opening as you answer...

...you lose yourself in memory as you struggle to answer her question. You haven't really thought about it in a long, long while.

"...in the beginning, I just wanted to save her...save everyone...but I could never win. So many failures, so many bodies..."
The sound of thunder...shards of glass and a pink light extinguished...
You stare off into the distance, unable to look at Sayaka, "...it was devouring me. Despair creeping slowly into my veins...rotting my bones...but I kept going. Like a machine...like a clock I kept struggling, moving forward with all the feeling and emotion of a doll. I wasn't fighting to win...I was just fighting to not die. If I stopped, I'd be letting it win...and so spite kept me moving forward, spitting in the eye of fate."
Unending, obnoxious laughter...pink eyes stare blindly. A wave of force unimaginable ripples out...
You let out a hollow chuckle, "...not that I ever managed to make it blink. Well, certainly nothing more than that."
...and is weathered with a smile, earth-tainting light bending around the Mandala.
"Eventually, I stopped hurting when the bodies fell. I just...started over and kept moving. Falling in love over and over again, until I couldn't even remember what love was. Never grieving the lost, never really seeing a loss at all...just a chance to try again. It was almost like happiness...no suffering, no pain, just a daily life where I got to do what I wanted. I never felt fulfilled, no, but...I hadn't felt anything at all before."
Muscles go limp...red hair splayed across the ground. Pink eyes stare in horror, but it doesn't matter.
Your eyes burn...you wish it would rain.
Swept into your arms, you dance her through town, leaving the dead in your wake...you'll have to restart soon, but this is fun, you think...no need to worry, no need to hide yourself...
"I hate thinking about those days."
...you'll dance until the play begins, and then you'll leave. You've seen it before, after all. You'll bring apples, next time...maybe you'll dance with the red one next time. That could be fun.
You glance at Sayaka...her expression is confused. You're glad...she didn't see it then. Good.

You turn back away, "...I don't know what happened after that. Can't remember...don't want to remember. Eventually, someone found me. I wasn't happy anymore...not sad either...not really anything. I think I was just afraid to die. She took me in...taught be how to care again. How to believe again. Reminded me there was a tomorrow to fight for...and I swore I'd make things right."
A warm smile, slightly feral. Hours dancing among the horrors, dreaming of waiting joys. The taste of pocky...and a cascade of crimson light.
"It was better then. I felt again...made friends, let myself remember love. Felt real happiness...and real pain. I found my heart and soul again, and decided they were worth holding on to."
A partner...a strange feeling...bullets and muskets. Not alone...even in the end, not alone...but the sound of laughter silences everything...
"I lived like that for a long time. Now, though..."
A smile. Pink eyes spark through you. Apples vanish one by one. The tastes of tea and cake cascade across your tongue. White and black, sorrows fading from sight...
"...now I just want to make it right. My story's almost done, but...I want it to end the right way. Like it should have at the beginning...shining and perfect, untarnished by my sins. I just want the play to end happily, so that tomorrow will think well of me...so that the me that started this can still love the me that ends it. So...for just a little while, I'll be her again. The girl who wanted to save everyone, even if that's a foolish thing to do."

You turn towards Sayaka, your expression twisted and paradoxical as tears of shame and sorrow flow freely over a bright and genuine smile, "I'll get it right...that's how I'm still fighting. I'm still fighting because I'm going to win."

Sayaka's eyes are focused and determined, but you can feel a deep and profound pity as you gaze into them...you don't fully understand why. For an instant, your own soul seems to be reflected in hypnotic and broken silver, and then vanishes under the sea of blue.

Sayaka grins, resolution seeming to radiate from her, "You're right. You're going to win...I know you will, and I'll be there to make sure of it! I swear it, Homura-chan! I'll save you...and we'll save everyone. No matter how long it takes...we'll make this right. I couldn't see much of your Legend, or hold onto it...just some the weight of it all, though...I'll take half of it, Homura. Whatever we're doing, I'm beside you, so that your Legend can end with the Miracle you've been fighting for."

You open your mouth to explain that it's not that simple, but she puts a finger to your lips, "Nope. Sayaka-chan's coming along, whether you like it or not. C'mon, let's go get some biscuits...if that glutton hasn't already emptied the restaurant, at least."

You find a small grin forming on your face as the memories fade away again. You never realized "Sayaka" was contagious, but you're not sure you mind.

You nod, and she takes your hand, dragging you towards the bus stop, and you don't bother to resist.

Updates are beginning again. Finally got deep enough to figure out where she is mentally...and what she's been through.

...bloody hell, why did I have to find that, not something perky?

There is yes.

And this is amazing.

...I'm sorry, Homura...

Updates are beginning again. Finally got deep enough to figure out where she is mentally...and what she's been through.

...bloody hell, why did I have to find that, not something perky?
Hey remember, it's always darkest before sunrise.

Plus, just because it's dark doesn't mean it's as dark as it's going to get. You can't tell until it actually starts getting brighter. Which may not be for several more hours. Bring a flashlight.

Red Lobster
It takes a while to get to Red Lobster, and Sayaka is surprisingly quiet on the bus, although she refuses to let go of your hand. You catch her glancing at you every so often, concern written across her face, only for her to smile as soon as she see you looking.

You find yourself extremely uncomfortable with the attention. You aren't new to physical contact or friendship anymore, but you've rarely had someone try to take care of you this way, and certainly not Miki Sayaka. You decide this is deeply unnatural, but can't bring yourself to shake her off.

You eventually do arrive, however, stepping inside to be assaulted by the scents of cooked bread and fried fish, and Sayaka finally releases your hand as you see Kyouko waving you over.

The two of you settle in to join her, and you note an extra glass at the table...it looks like Nanoha's already here.

Kyouko welcomes you with a wide grin, and a clap on the shoulder, "Hey there, Ribbons! You get tired of stabbing fake monsters when there are real ones around?"

Sayaka sends a glare her way, but you shake your head, "Not really...it's nice to practice against something that won't actually kill me. I wasn't going to miss the meeting, though. There are more important things than SAO to deal with." You shrug, "Besides...I want to see the staff's expressions when you bankrupt them. All you can eat shrimp, right?"

She nods, leaning back in her chair and resting her feet on the table, "You know it!"

Sayaka scoffs, "...do you ever not think about food."

Kyouko raises an eyebrow as if to point out how ridiculous the question is, but doesn't say anything. She's comfortable being seen as a glutton, most of the time.

"...I'm back Kyouko! Sorry for leaving you alo...ne..."

A shiver goes up your spine, a feeling of impending doom overtaking you as you turn to look at the blond Magus behind you.

Tomoe Mami's gaze is cold as she stares you down, and you know it's only the public locale that's keeping her from summoning muskets. Beside you, you feel Sayaka tremble slightly.

Kyouko, being Kyouko, is unfazed, "...c'mon Mami. You said you'd be nice. She's safe, and she backed me up when I needed it."

Glancing at the redhead, Mami takes a deep breath before sighing, "Yes...you're right, Kyouko. I'm sorry, Akemi-san. I'm Tomoe Mami, the Magical Girl in charge of Mitakihara city. I wish you had contacted me before setting up shop, so that we could discuss how I do things around here, but I'm not here to fight over territory. Kyouko tells me you're a Time Magus."

You know where this is going. She doesn't take well to a threat to her city, and Time Magi are known for being...well, insane. You can relate...but for now, you need to defuse this situation.

You smile at her, not bothering to try for cuteness...Kyouko will have told her too much for that to work, "I am. I'm also in my right mind...as much as most Magi, at least." The lie isn't hard...you really are sane, for practical purposes, although you're not sure you can say that in any sense beyond the practical.

Setting aside your self-contemplation, you continue, "I'm here to help you, not steal your territory...I haven't even hunted in town, except for stopping the Witch that attacked us before."

She sits down, nodding slowly, "...assuming I believe you, what are your objectives here?"

Kyouko pipes up, "...I haven't told her about, you know, yet. Figured I'd wait until you got here."

Mami glances at her, pursing her lips, and then looks back at you, "...explain. I didn't expect to reunite with Kyouko after all this time...but I certainly didn't expect her to be so obtuse about something. What are you here for? What could possibly make Kyouko..."

You don' t like this. You don't like this at all. You didn't think Kyouko would take you seriously enough to patch things up with Mami...you must have made a stronger impression than you thought.

There's nothing for it. You have to tell her.

You look Mami in the eyes, "Walpurgisnacht."

Her composure crumbles as her face goes pale, "...in Mitakihara. Walpurgisnacht is coming...here..."

She's lost her focus. This is your chance to push forward and take control of the conversation...but how to go about it?
