Renascence: A Homura Quest

Honorifics or Western-style Titles? I've used both before, which is bothersomely inconsistent

Yeah, that's a good point. Although in in a way, I'm more scared about Nanoha's interactions with Kyouko than with Homura. Kyouko's diplomacy skills are kinda infamous............

Depends on which cast ... and who they meet, specifically. Especially in 40K.
In terms of behavior, yes. I was thinking of Kirk's crew.

Regardless of crew though, they struggle to adapt to the narrative/cosmologicsl laws of that universe.

They come from one where there's always a good solution and horrors are things others inflict. They can get away with talking things through and setting weapons to stun.

Compare this to the SW universe, where the death of at least tens of thousands, possibly hundreds of thousands, of imperial personel aboard the Death Star is considered not just an acceptable outcome, but a best-case scenario by the Rebellion.

Compare this to the mass human sacrifice and wanton slaughter of human and xeno alike by the Imperium of Man.

Even if the Enterprise was able to understand the necessity of some of these actions, they would still be likely to attempt their usual merciful heroics...because in the universe they come from, that works.

Suddenly plunged into a universe where talking to the enemy is nothing but a way to get yourself killed, where saving millions may mean personally dooming hundreds, and a hostage situation is best resolved by shooting straight through the hostage? Where sparing an enemy will only lead to disaster and imprisonment is only for the sake of interrogation and/or mind rape?

They'd die long before they learned their lesson.

Speaking of crossovers...

It's possible that characters from Western works may appear in addition to characters from other anime and manga.

I've been thinking about ways to help explain this world's magic in terms that might help Nanoha understand faster.

I'll post details later.

Eh, I'd disagree - Kirk and his crew have killed, or made decisions they knew would involve killing others (or helping people kill others), and starship combat certainly involves death. True, they do seek peaceful alternatives first, but it's not like they're going to let themselves be doormats.

It would be quite a culture system shock, yes, and I rather expect that one ship wouldn't be able to do much besides die horribly or surrender to someone (at which point what happens depends on who they're captured by). I don't think it's impossible for the crew to adapt to the realities of life, however.

They'd die long before they learned their lesson.
Probably. Depends on what they do, and whether they decide to give up on even trying to find a way home, though - if they do, they could just find a civilized world and sell off the Enterprise, probably living the rest of their lives in relative peace. Or they might fall to Chaos - that's an pretty likely scenario, actually.

The hiatus is coming to a close, but I'll be updating some meta-material first.

@Higure Now that Nanoha is about to be relevant again, do you have an answer for the blue I posited in this post?

For this set of blue, "barrier" refers to the pocket dimensions created by mages from Lyrical Nanoha rather than PMMM-verse Witch Barriers.
Witches have a means of escaping barriers.
Witches cannot break out of a barrier that is sufficiently hardened and maintained.
Nanoha can maintain a barrier sufficiently hardened to trap an average witch.
On her own, even if she could devote her entire attention and mana to the task, Nanoha cannot produce a barrier sufficiently hardened to contain a battle with Walpurgisnacht if Walpurgisnacht seriously tries to escape.

It is possible that Kiritsugu Emiya exists somewhere in Homura's family tree.

I've always liked that WMG that Homura is an illegitimate child of Maiya, explains the time magic and affinity for guns.
