We tried so hard, and got so far.
But in the end, it didn't even matter. They still did fall, and lose it all. But in the end, it didn't even matter.
sigh
I assume the ones Kyoko had chained up to the balcony were drained too? What about Saotoshi, where'd he get to? Did Lilith count him being a
former cultist and spare him, or did she Giga Drain him dry too?
Anyway, each vote lacks something to me; people can feel multiple things in very rapid succession in these sort of situations, so Operation Have My Cake And Eat It Too is a go:
[X] ...You felt frustration, and anger. These people came to attack you and kill your friend, but you hadn't wanted to kill them. You hadn't wanted a
massacre. Frustratration that you couldn't do anything to prevent this, even when you put so much effort to prevent casualties. And anger, because of the callousness that Lilith displayed for Oracle, for humans in general. How dare she treat their lives as worthless?
How dare she?
-[X] And
why does this have to be Kohaku?! Why does she have to go through this? First her mom tired to kill her and died... then her dad will do the same tomorrow... this isn't
fair. Not to her!
[X] Run up and hug her, hold her close, pull Shoji in, make it known that she is loved, that you love her, Shoji loves her, that she isn't alone, and that you're so, so sorry. Sorry that she had to witness all this, sorry that she has to deal with all of THIS, sorry that you couldn't stop it.
DO NOT CRUSH HER AGAIN.
-[X] Tell Raido to take over from here (this isn't a suggestion). Take Kohaku to the park, or a pizza parlor, or to the arcade. Just take her away from here, and don't leave her alone.
So, uh, just one question:
Why the hell did Kohaku and Shoji leave our relatively-safe grandparents' home, in-universe? They could've stayed well away from where Oracle was expecting her to be, under anti-scrying wards and everything. I get the Doylist explanation -- story drama -- but I've been wondering this for a few updates now.
Yumi really has had her character arc already huh. In the damn backstory of all places. This amuses me
Not all of it, this is her season 2 arc -- coming to grips with her fears of losing her connection to humanity and becoming obsessed with/enamored of power, not caring about the harm caused to others, like maybe (I've been thinking) some of those Yakuza and other gangsters did with
their power, in her eyes.
Thus that conversation with Kohaku some updates ago.
Someone later can bring up in story how she tried to take down
several dozen people trying hard to kill her and her friends non-lethally (and succeeded!), how even after pushing her power to the maximum here in this fight, it was always to
protect everyone she could, she let go of the power the moment she could, and how her first thought was to try and see if anyone survived or could be brought back.
I'm not saying Yumi would or should at any point go full Super Emoin', but if she ever encounters one of those preys-on-your-worst-fears sort of nightmarish demons (or people), Kohaku, Shoji, Raido, and Kyoko can all snap her out of those first parts of the spiral... or Yumi can remember herself, if possible.
