    "If only if were that easy." Grandma looks you in the eyes, "I can't break this curse, only mitigate some of the effects."

    "Then how is it triggered?" You try, "Or does it just go off on its own?"

    "Whenever your friend is conscious, it activates." She begins, "This insidious curse begins by whispering into her ear. Over time, or even just on its own, it takes a mental toll on her, until..."

    Your gaze falls to the ground, and your hands ball up into fists. "...She'll wake up though, right?"

    "Yes. Then, the cycle repeats." Grandma sighs, "If I wasn't so disgusted at the curse, I would be impressed." She shakes her head, "Her blacking out was just stress, it seems. We won't need to worry about some sort of "Sleeping Beauty" scenario."

    Your shoulders relax, albeit only slightly. At least you won't have to track down someone to kiss her awake. "Can the curse be transferred?" You try again, hope filling your tone, "Like, to someone immune to it or something?"

    "No." She adamantly denies, "And even if it could, I would refuse to do so. You may be strong, Yumi, but this is beyond strength."

    You grow ever so slightly more frustrated. "Can we at least use the curse to track the fu--" You stop, taking a breath, "...One who cursed her?"

    "Now that is possible." Grandma nods, turning back to Kohaku, "And I can do so without causing harm to her, too. But I'll need time."

    You nod, turning to leave her to...

    ...

    "...Can they use the curse to track her?" You ask, deathly still.

    "Only if they grow close, which shouldn't be a problem for now." Grandma kneels down, "Now, I know you're worried, but please go back to the dining room. I need to focus, now more than ever."

    You stiffly walk down to the dining room door, looking back at Grandma. She nods at you, and you...

    "...I just need some air." You change your course to the backyard. Once outside, you flop down onto the stairs, staring at the small pond in front of you.

    "I am sorry I cannot assist you, Master Yumi Konishi."

    After all, if Kyuubey wants to experiment with demon magic so badly... it won't mind being its own guinea pig, right? :V

    (Yeah I know it wouldn't take the risk. I found it darkly funny.)

    And the Sleeping Beauty thing was... not quite what I meant, as explained in a later post, but this works too.

    ...though this does still leave explicitly suggesting a magical coma as a possibility to bring up.

    Probably ought to get a more solid answer on how to break the curse. Would be a shame if we kill Hino before learning we needed to get him to remove the curse first.

    Not right now, of course, but sometime before we turn him inside out.

    I don't think we're getting that info out of him. Unless he's gloating, he'd never tell us the real method out of spite.

    The question is, what kind of fake ears are they? Fake human ears, to disguise the fact that her wolf ears are real? Fake cat ears, to cover over the real wolf ones? Or fake wolf ears to cover over the real cat ones? Some other option? :p

    Best option, use the ability to track it, that link, and transfer it to the person who cast it! He'll have to hear himself say that he won't be able to escape from himself!

    Was referring to asking Grandma how the curse could be broken - all we know is that she can't break it. If it's something we need to force him to undo, we need to know about that before we remove him. If it's a matter of getting some trinket off him and giving it to her, we need to know that. Breaking stuff, etcetera. Point being, bonus conditions for boss fights are important.
     
    Question about the vote, why are we referring to Dawn as if she walks around and does her own thing? AFAIK, she's with us all the time.

    There's only so many not-fourth-wall-breaking ways we can phrase "hey, Dawn, could you dig through your level-up list and put a 'that curse sure looks like a Gordian Knot to me!' option that using won't kill the person I'm trying to uncurse" that I could think of. shrugs

    Also, if Dawn's independently thinking and sensing enough she can cast magic on her own, she's independently thinking and sensing enough to spot or think of things Yumi/we miss.

    Why would Dawn have access to her level up list? We've technically been cheating cause we have the internet lmao

    Considering how Dawn's acted so far, it just feels redundant to ask for something she already would have done, but it is a fair thing to ask in that regard, although it would be weird for Dawn to notice something like that before us.

    Dawn may have the capacity to think and cast magic, but she still knows less than Yumi does on the basis that Yumi was doing this before Dawn became aware.

    Exactly. ;) Thus the phrasing coming off as "I have no idea where you're pulling your new abilities from, but if you find this thing or figure it out..." sort of deal.

    Yumi's not thinking super-rationally right now, she's scaredangry about Kohaku being hurt. I wouldn't expect her to be thinking about that super-deeply right now. To my mind, there's exasperation and appreciation alike in response to Dawn's not-really-helpful attempt to apologize for not being able to help in this specific problem.

    Honestly, I'd expect Yumi would be reacting to the Kohaku situation much, MUCH worse if she hadn't had that nap earlier, even if she's probably subconsciously feeling guilty for doing so seeing what happened when she dared rest for a moment.
