She is the one who wanted to fight. Even after he asked her if she is sure. If you get a prompt 'Do you really want to attack the optional boss', you should be sure that you know what you are facing and be prepared.

Boss Battle BGM! New
... Okay the comments referring to alchemist as the optional boss is fantastic and gives me an idea.

--FROM: Ultra-powerful best goddess Terra-Tan!--
-- So I got some interesting news from abroad the other day, and it got me thinking. You're getting pretty ridiculous aren't you? Walking up and bullying unsuspecting divinities with barely an 'Are you sure?' prompt! Well, if that's how you're going to be I've got just the thing for you.

-- Enjoy your shiny new Boss Music perk! It comes with its own menu, allowing you to select style, mood, and even composer if you can collect enough sheet music. The only thing you can't do is turn it off, and it'll trigger automatically, so make sure you pick something so that everyone will know that they've done goofed. Don't worry though, it'll only trigger when you're going for sheer overkill or appropriately superboss.

-- In fact! I'll throw in a purchasable boss healthbar that you can use to section off some of your health so you can phase-change or something-- actually let me get back to you on that while I work on it.

Alchemist stared at the message blankly for several long, slow moments, sorting out whether he was, in fact, actually angry or just annoyed. What he didn't do was respond; Terra was still on his shit-list, and she knew what she did.

Still, he had things to do and eventually closed the message with a deep, soul-quavering sigh and stood up. It wasn't a 'feature' he ever wanted or planned to use, and of course that meant it couldn't be disabled, so he got up to order the complete works of Weird Al Yankovic from the Internet. If he couldn't turn it off, he'd make someone regret it.

... and maybe just a little he wanted to hear Weird Al ripping on the accordion the next time he had to train up some plucky heroes.

This sounds like something he could have a ton of fun with.

I know he's mainly getting useful perks, but seeing the multiple times he's reset his level with a ton of perks that he just didn't bother using, I would be happy to see him find and grab some that are just fun or neat sounding. You need to stress test some non-essential perks!

Hopefully not. The entire reason Al has spent so much time prepping isn't because of Zeus's power, but because if he kills him, the asshole can just walk right out of Tartarus and come back to try again and again and again.

...unless Al gives Yuffie a weapon capable of destroying Zeus's soul, and then that would work.
Ehh, Alchemist less the optional boss and more the shopkeeper.
(Which is argueably worse, imo.)
Yeah...

There are two sides to the coin. He needs to kill Zeus hard enough it actually sticks, but also not so hard that it breaks Zeus's godhood which is a pillar holding up Earth's reality.

He plans on literally destroying Zeus's soul. Not the Oversoul's soul, but definitely the YJ version's, and possibly the TT version's, as well (y'know, as practice).

So, whatever that might mean for the DC universe, he's definitely not wanting any scraps of Zeus left around, stinking up the place.

That brings up a point that's kind of sobering. With this side trip, Yuffie and Kary have pretty definitively taken their places as Al's family, both in terms of familial closeness and power levels, whereas Jinx seems to have gotten largely put on a bus as a character, and is now only around to be a damsel in distress, targeted by Zeus ironically as a way to get to Al.

There just seems to be an issue of where to slot her, in terms of family situation, because if you just look at the YJ timeline she would be a bit young to be a girlfriend (although if you just look at the YJ timeline Al would be less than a year old), but she and Al definitely don't have a father-daughter relationship. That's unfortunate, because she has a lot of the more pragmatic, proactive attitude that Kary lacks and Al needs to keep himself grounded, without the frenetic, immature energy that Yuffie brings to the table.

To be fair, that's probably for the best, because the alternative is he isn't over prepared and Zeus fiats him out of existence.

In Chapter 122, someone asked if Jinx was Al's daughter, and Al corrected them to sister. He pretty explicitly doesn't see her as either a daughter or a potential girlfriend – and just as explicitly does see her as someone he greatly values and relies on.

She's not in the current story arc in Final Fantasy VII, but the trip to Teen Titans that FF7 interrupted was originally her idea, and she's gotten more POV scenes during it than she's had for a long time.

Well, I finally caught up. I really enjoy how the good of characters isn't pushed aside to focus on the difficulties of heroism in a comic book world. Batman, Diana, Flash, Superman, and many others are complex characters that manage to be the larger than life heroes with incredible ability as paragons while also being flawed, uncertain people. The SI for all his meta knowledge, general patience and common sense is full of flaws and issues that aren't dragging the story down and have developed over time.

His allies, and even his enemies, are adapting fluidly and seeking to better themselves in various ways as opposed to being overly stubborn while he alone improves to face the threats the multiverse presents.

The metaphysics I've already commented on, loving that, as well as a certain, respect for what effectively makes the setting facing extinction events on worldly and higher scales every other week if you combined all the stuff from DC.

I do find the overly mechanical sections tedious at times but, it's just not possible to ignore them while maintaining the Gamer bit.

And it does feel like the volatility of his relationship with the fellow heroes keeps swinging back and forth, but when I think of that I also think that it really isn't that odd if you look at the Justice League throughout the ages.

Nevermind John Constantine. Their relationships can fluctuate too, incredibly.
In addition, narrative causality is a thing and Alchemist explicitly doesn't fall into that.
