Oh yes they do matter. You think this is bad? The Sketch can get alot nastier with us.
 
I have no words, jumping straight into the power of controlling the budget?

I think freedom is the superior option mechanically as it gives us more PW.
But lawmaking is a better narrative with equal power for both houses of government.

In this case I think freedom is better as we need PW. Our economic system needs a lot more PW, because we do not get IC automatically.
So getting more PW should be our highest priority.
 
Can people explain the appeal of Plan Lawmaking?

We get a weaker parliament when we have the PW to burn for it.

Both Sketch and Kielmyr have Purse already. We'd still be eternally behind instead of using the resources we shepherded to finally catch up.

Don't be ridiculous. The Sketch have already peaked (well maybe there can still be a Scramble for Africa for them to get resources out of, but that'll be a temporary measure at best), whereas we aren't even using most of our territory yet. This is a marathon. In two hundred years the idea the Sketch could be Supreme Power will be only a memory.

In terms of changing our government it's worth noting that changes that are to sudden are not a good thing, like anybody else politicians need experience at doing their jobs. If we through them in the deep end with no warm up time they're going to screw up much worse than they would otherwise. One of the primary reasons that so many post colonial nations did so badly is that once their former colonial overlords left they suddenly had to govern themselves without anyone with any experience in that to do it.

They need no motive to be nastier and the key point was the deniable method of stabbing at us.

If they make it more obvious we can better respond to them via our actual allies and how many more ways they could escalate this feud in a subtle manner?

Making the Lower House stronger than the Upper House later is going to be more difficult if the UH is stronger than the LH.

We're also in the middle of a gigantic war, so having some PW left over is okay.

We're not changing much.

All we're doing is giving the UH the capability it already has anyway, then creating a LH that has basically the exact same responsibilities the UH has.

Many ways, they are very good at sneaky stuff and proxies.

There's no point in picking a fight, directly or otherwise, right now. Short term is their strength, long term is ours. We benefit from dragging this out over the years.
 
@Academia Nut you mentioned that the Kielmyr and Sketch both have parliaments with power of the purse and in general we're one of the more absolute monarchies regarding parliament, but how do we compare in press/assembly rights and treatment of minorities?

Note that the Kiel and the Sketch have power of the purse for both the Upper House and the Lower House, and are thus gaining a fuckload more PW than us. The more power we devolve, the more PW we gain, and thus the more we can industrialise with our super PW expensive options :V

Ah, yes the do nothing and take it strategy.

Surely we will eventually succeed by passively accepting getting stabbed in the side constantly.
Thats what we have been doing and have thus kept getting screwed over by the them.

Not to mention by the time the "marathon" kicks in the Sketch could just buy their resources from around the world without having to colonize anyway.
 
We need to espionage the sketch. Not to cut them down, but rather use them to pull ourselves up. I want to pirate their first ironclad with a DC crew for it's maiden voyage.
 
There may well be some valuable philosophical growth inspired by making the nobility and commoners exactly constitutionally equal in Parliament. If you want to unlock the ability to make the lower house more powerful than the higher that seems like the way to go.
