So far, I have read through the opening post, am totally lost in terms of the current political situation worldwide, but that's okay [hopefully!].
I have been looking at untaken nations, and so far I find that the Union of California sounds like a pretty cool choice to me.
I will continue looking at others, if you'd prefer a more experienced individual play there, but it looks like it's in a position that I could reasonably handle - there aren't (many) natural enemies.
Just to make sure I'm understanding something: is the non-colored mass of NA in-colonized indigenous peoples because it's the 1600s, or something else?

I do have a person lined for California (probably) since they helped me do the translations for it, but there's plenty of other choices.
So: If @Desdendelle doesn't grab california by 5pm Eastern Standard Time it's yours if you still want it.

I might also sugggest Russia, one of the West Africa nations (Ashanti, Mali, or Azawad), or a south american nation like Platina or the USSA.
