Magical Girl Quest - The Fire That Burns

What mechanical benefits do we get from skilled with our sword?
The Skilled ability lets you negate a non-spell enemy action (not necessarily an attack, and not necessarily something aimed at you) by using up 4 of your own actions (attacks per turn).

It can eventually upgrade to even higher tiers that cost fewer actions to use.

[X] Plan Una Sword with Clarification and Omega
-[X] Have Gaia send Una behind the enemies with orders to shoot Fortress with Paradox
-[X] Before Una ports in, cast Halt on Neverthere so that Scourge will use Consume on Halt and be unable to stop Una from killing Fortress.
-[X] Keep Omega up around yourself until Fortress is dead, but don't let scourge touch it.
-[X] Charge Scourge and attempt to kill him in melee. Have both auras off and use no spells. Be prepared for if/when Neverthere switches with Scourge.
-[X] If Neverthere switches with Scourge, attack Neverthere with your sword.
-[X] If Neverthere dies first, then charge and kill Scourge in melee. If Scourge dies first, cast Halt on Neverthere and have Una cast Paradox on him.
-[X] Double and triple check that all of them are dead, don't want another repeat of Fortress.
-[X] Send Una Home

In the Fire that Burns (only) it also gives a damage boost. (See Daiyu's skills tab.)

Reminder that you want to hit Scourge first; if Omega is up while you do that, you are in trouble.

But, uh, we don't?

The plan says not to let scourge touch it and to drop omega when we charge. We just want to keep it up until Una kills fortress, then we drop it and charge scourge. At least, that's what I thought it was...

I hope Naron's got the plan right because I don't want to see this go wrong.

The plan says to activate Omega, which is everywhere around you. As we have no idea when Una's turn in the initiative is due to being teleported in, we do not know if she will actually shoot him first. If she does, good. If not, we activated Omega and are now either doing nothing until Una shoots or charge Scourge with it active.

Then it says to deactivate Omega while charging him. While Omega is alive and just went through some kind of crisis, which might still be bothering it. I am not sure turning it on, off, and then on again is a good idea.

It might decide to try eating Scourge just because.

So honestly, I would rather not. Cerys can survive one Spear of Alerious if she has to; that is less of a risk than possibly making Scourge near-unkillable again and losing the magic we gathered as well.

Let me see a moment...

[X] Plan Una Sword with Clarification

I feel like there needs to be a line in this one to say that we turn Omega on after scourge is dead?

As it is there's no reference to omega anywhere and I would prefer to actually be able to put the safety net up once the path is cleared.

You raise a valid point.

I may have misunderstood something. I thought she could keep it active in an area just around herself, as per the plan used for MASTER ME MASTER. (-[] Keep Omega up, close to your skin to block Sabina's spells)

We spend a good portion of that update with it active in melee range of her, but she never takes damage from it.

The bit about Omega being alive and unstable is a good point, though.

and I completely forgot about this, honestly. I guess that safety net is enough.

You might want to take the X out of there.

That aside, the problem is more that Scourge might make a grab for Cerys to get Omega. Or that Omega itself might decide it does not like being armour and becomes more proactive. You can not treat it like a weapon when it is alive.

Is there any point of double-teaming the enemy, though?

@Rukia, @Naron - what happens if we cast Halt on the Fortress, with or without the Fortress already having layers of Ward of Ashkelon on them, and Scourge casts Consume on the Geezer?
1) Do the spells of Fortress get Consumed as well?
2) Does the Scourge gain those same defenses added to his health? Stacked Base Resilience and all the magic rolls. That's as high as 1800*30+d750*30, or approximately 65k.
3) Did the Scourge do that exact thing with the Fortress' help prior to teleporting onto the field of battle?

And nevermind, it wouldn't work due to those same Wards having a Status Block effect.

With Fortress and Scourge being immune to status effects/magic, Neverthere is the only one we actually can cast Halt on meaningfully.

Umm. A question - assume Una casts Infinite Advance on Cerys' Magic Modifier.
1) Where does the power come from (i.e. would Una metaphorically pull her back boosting us that much)?
2) Does it really work as advertised (i.e. give us from 12613+100 to 12613*4+100=50552 Magic Modifier)?
3) Would Cerys even be able to handle that influx, while riding the overflow of consuming the Divine Wrath as she is?
4) Can the Scourge auto-consume the buff on contact, or it'll require a casting of his own spell?
5) Will the Scourge get only a maximum of 104 if he consumes the Infinite Advance?

BTW, am I the only one who finds it hilarious that if Una's shot at Fortress goes through, she'll have one-shotted someone who is Impenetrable, which is a paradox of sorts, with a literal Paradox?

Other concerns:
1) Is Magical Girl Endless Hail anywhere in the vicinity?
2) Can Una survive being sniped by Endless Hail? Well, she can take ONE hit at least...

You really should have numbered the questions better. I changed those in the quote for ease of reference.

1) Yes
2) Yes
3) Uh... I do not know, but would think no. That is outside-the-box thinking and might actually have negative consequences on Fortress' magic for all we know. Or maybe no one ever thought of it.

Note that Status Block can not protect you from the Bind-line. Those do not count as Status Effects.

4) No. While I have no idea where the power comes from, Una did boost JWave without any visible negative effects before. I would think of her magic acting as a catalyst, strengthening something else without using itself up.
5) If she rolls a 4 on her modifier roll, yes.
6) If you have to ask the question, you should consider it a suboptimal idea. I would not know, but I doubt it.
7) Seeing that it is not an aura-effect but stays 'inside' the buffed person, he would have to hit Cerys with his Spell.
8) Not sure, either that or he quadruples his Health. Have to ask Rukia.

9) She already risked her life twice trying to shoot at Ignition Knight.
10) Una will not drop before Cerys does, no matter what.

Edit:
BTW, am I the only one who finds it hilarious that if Una's shot at Fortress goes through, she'll have one-shotted someone who is Impenetrable, which is a paradox of sorts, with a literal Paradox?
Yes, this is hilarious if you think about it.

A question about skilled; does it just let Cerys dodge an attack for 4 actions? Is there stuff it cannot dodge? Would it increase her attack power any?

Magic Surge seems tempting, but I don't think it's a good idea to have it present while Scourge is alive and we don't know how it's going to manifest exactly. When he's gone though, that's different.

Dodging attacks would require Skillful Dodge or its derivatives. That one is "sacrifice four actions to dodge an incoming attack". Skilled is "negate an action", which means that you stop someone from doing something. This could be attacking, or something else.

The main difference is that Skilled can be used to protect someone else while dodging makes it possible to not get hit by Spells (which Skilled can not be used to negate).

Anyway, welcome to the Quest.

THERE WAS AN ATTEMPT
"Why do you even bother trying." Gaia, my sister, behind them. You don't bother checking if she noticed, throwing a hand forwards and freezing the fucking teleporter in place, kicking off of the ground towards them as they react. Scourge will release him, Fortress is going to bunker up more and then my sister will get him. You cross the distance quickly, making sure that the Scourge has enough time to free his comrade, cratering the ground as you land.

He glances over to you with panic in his eyes, desperately reaching for something in a bag hanging around his neck. You smirk and swing your sword as hard as you can. Survive this, asshole. His fingers tear through the cloth in a burst of magic, crushing a small crystal just as your sword lands.

(Infinity Edge: +2,317 Base Damage, +144 Magic Modifier, +579 Rush, +695 Speed Gap, x3 Crush = 11,205 Total Damage
Scourge: +100 Base Resilience, +625 Magic Modifier, -543 Juggernaut = 181 Total Reduction

Scourge Health: 10,400 - 11,024 = -624 Health)

You have the briefest moment to see the smug look in his eyes disappear as your blade tears him in half, spinning with the momentum to kick his torso at the Fortress, you see his eyes follow your little impromptu distraction as you feel your sister join you. Got you.

She's already in the middle of casting when she appears, Gaia helpfully lining her up so that she can release the spell as she arrives.

(Paradox: +937 Base Damage, +645 Magic Modifier = 1,582 Total Damage
Fortress: +28,304 Base Resilience, +2,075 Magic Modifier = 30,379 Total Reduction

Fortress Health: 210 - 1,582 = -1,372)

(Wellspring of Power, Fuelled by Ruin: Eternal Knight Health: 1,500 + 375 = 1,875)

He disappears into the warp before he has the chance to react, an odd slurping sound followed by it closing, leaving crinkles in the air that slowly fade.

(1D2 = 1)

You turn your eyes to the the remaining member of the three, lifting a hand to freeze him in place again when you hear another crystal shattering, the last thing you see are his wide, panicked eyes as he disappears without a word.

Alright then. Dropping your hand with a sigh you rub your shoulder, a longer, much more relaxed sigh sounding when you feel the joint let out a loud crack. Ahh, that's better. Una slowly steps next to you and you reach down to ruffle her hair, picking her up in a quick hug before putting her down. "Thank you for helping." She nods, eye alert as she looks around. Good girl. You pat her head again. Gaia, take her home. She disappears without a word and you let your hand drop against your side, the metal thudding as it bounces off.

Well, that was easy, hopefully they'll stay away. And dead. You pause at the thought, looking back to the remaining corpse. Not this time. You step over, cutting off his head, then cutting that in half, and then cutting his chest into three, before finally setting it on fire and burying it in a small crater. Let's see you come back from that. You step towards the forest again before pausing again, flaring your aura until the grave is a small puddle of lava. There we go.

You set off towards the forest, not bothering to move past a walking pace. I'm sure the next ambush will be here any minute now. Not that you have a clue what is next in line, but you really don't want to be surprised by a massive bomb.

An hour later, you are starting to doubt they are coming, at least more than the lone person you felt approaching your previous battleground as you were leaving. They don't seem to be following you, but you keep catching intermittent flashes of warmth. They are definitely here, but they just seem to be following me. It's annoying, how they seem to be toying with you, straying just close enough to the edge of your sense that you can practically feel the heat leaving their body, but always staying outside of it when you try to move closer.

Ugh.

???

"Wooooow..." The sea of lava hisses and bubbles before you, the tank you are standing on slowly sinking further into the depths. You leech off of the flames a little, just enough to take the edge off. "I had no clue she could do this!" You dip a toe in the molten earth, the heat sending pleasant shivers down your spine. "Mmmh." You shake your head, ignoring the desire to go for a swim. Need to find her. Giving the pool one last longing look, and dipping another toe for a moment, you start moving towards the biggest patch of destroyed trees.

You find another pool of lava, the ground torn up all over the place, a big patch of blood slowly drying under the sun. But no Ignition Knight. Tsk. You look around, lifting a fallen tree to see if she's hiding under there.

Nope.

You settle back on the tank, letting your feet rest in the lava as you think, the scorching heat relaxing after the long run you'd made to get here. "Where could she have gone?" It's like a reaaaally big game of hide and seek. Just. With more murder.

Hide and Murder.

You are never going to tell Anna about your new game of Hide and Murder. She'll be jealous that she's accidentally been calling it Hide and Seek for all this time. Focus. You reluctantly pull your feet out of their perfect resting place, it makes thinking too hard. Ok, she was here, now she's not. You resist the urge to say the obvious aloud, there isn't anyone nearby to annoy with it. She probably just wandered off into the forest. It's what you would do. Sooo, no chance of finding her. You sigh, dropping back to lay against the tank, letting one of your legs skim the top of the lava. So close, but so far.

"Still." You slide down the tank until you are waist deep in the lava, the only thing keeping you from sliding in being your little hands grabbing the hatch. Ahhh. "At least she left me a present." You close your eyes and relax, letting your worries float away on the superheated wind.

Stop. You jump left, the barest hints of a hand entering your range before being pulled back. Fucking. You rise above the trees, flying in the direction of the hand, a foot entering your range briefly. Running. Your speed finally picks up enough for you to feel them and you sigh. Small, almost child small. This better not be another fucking magical girl I swear to god. You've had enough of their shit today. You lift a hand to pulverise the forest they're hiding in when something files back at you and explodes, thin chains shooting out to hold you in place. Get off. They quickly melt before Omega, but your speed is gone and so are they.

You drop to the ground with a sigh, slowly walking off in a random direction. What am I supposed to eat? You get back something like a shrug. [Maybe you shouldn't have burned down the supplies in that base, I'm sure you could have eaten those.] You rub your eyes and come to a conclusion. I either need to raid the Counter Force base, or I need to find a nearby town that hasn't been blown to shit.

Before you can make your mind up, you feel those taunting pokes at your sense again, those little shits testing you. I am done with your teasing.

[] Ignore them, fly up and towards the Counter Force base or town, whichever is closer.

[] Murderize the pack of probably-not-magical-girls that seem determined to piss you off.

Cerys
+600xp And Stay Dead
+100xp Allied Kills
