I say focus on the Solid Fire project. Shotgun blast of solid-fire shards, as close to 2 dimensional as possible or otherwise just nasty in shape, would fuck someone's day up real bad. And of course, Flame Lance is a semi-classic fire spell as well.

Ah right, missed that a bit, I read that as 'knowledge on materials' and figured that the info books we have probably have something in there.
But yeah okay, fair enough...
I guess that would be one reason to consider heading back to civilization.
Well, we have a good safe haven here for the moment, but I'm worried about the lake thing, and we are limited in how much we can do. If we're at the great lakes that means we're pretty close to Canada at least, so I figure we stay maybe one day, then make for the border? Possibly try to get picked up as hitchhikers even?
Diamonds and Silk would be a pretty damn good mix for materials. Don't know if the study into carbon nano-tubes is a thing yet or not. And eventually there's the non-human/magical materials we can obtain as well.

Just a thought but maybe instead of making the fire more physical then it already is we could do something when the fire spear reaches our target. That very brief moment of contact wasn't enough to catch the tree on fire and it's going to be the same for practically everything else. Fire needs time to spread, so What if we make the spear copy the effects of napalm so when our spear reaches our target it will be on fire and stay on fire immediately? Or we could do this until we can make the impact damage do more and combine the two? Course we have to in character look up napalm probably.

Despite the shocking collapse of the Chinese economy, the UK has had a massive influx of investors hoping to take advantage of the new lull in global production. Efforts have been focused towards revitalising the economy in local regions with similar efforts being forwarded towards the members of the commonwealth, including the recently joined Canada and Australia. Already the benefits of this can be seen, jobs appearing by the thousand as massive industrial construction projects are initiated and old projects dusted off.
The most surprising part of this is that the EU and America have both started floundering. While the Commonwealth has started a massive investment project the other nations have fallen into disarray and internal bickering. Many investors who had been planning on investing in these nations have since passed over to the vast expanses of land that Canada and Australia own, encouraged with money grants and promises of low taxes.

In other news, a there was a gathering of minds in London this week. Scientists, artists and philosophers from around the world attended and mingled. There is whispering in the background of an enormous scientific project in the works. A scientific bastion of truly colossal scale. The recent collapse of China hit the European countries hard, unexpected as it as. Germany has started bulking up it's exports in response, however other countries appear to be stuck in a bureaucratic nightmare of their own creation as their contradicting laws tangle with one another. The situation has made it something of an avoidance zone of any who wish to invest right now.
America

America was hit even harder by the sudden halt of exports. In recent years it had abandoned a significant amount of it's industrial capacity in favour of imports, ratified in a controversial deal with Mexico and China. This has made their situation significantly worse, what was previously a precarious balance has been smashed as people go without every day products by the hundreds of millions. Food is still currently a secure supply, however supplies for farming may soon be in short supply if something is not done.
The entire situation is compounded upon by the recent disappearances near the Canadian border and the massive terrorist attack that hit one of it's northern cities just days ago. Much of the city was left ablaze resulting in tens of thousands of injuries and thousands of deaths. The military is staying completely silent on possible causes, however it has been noticed that they are sending enormous search parties north towards the Canadian border, with the border itself receiving a large garrison for the first time in over a hundred years.
The situation appears to be stable for now, though there is no telling how this might change.

Many countries appear to be slightly lessening the border guards and there have been quiet talks about forming some sort of alliance, though it is still far of. We can potentially see an upcoming giant rising here. So long as the situation remains as calm as it is.

The situation in China has continued deteriorating. Large patches of the country have risen up and declared themselves independent states, the local garrisons joining these states. The few coastal areas that remain within China's control have gained a heavy military garrison. There is no talk of reclaiming their scattered states right now and no other country is currently in any position to make a stand either way for China. They are on their own.

In Japan, a massive earthquake has hit the northern end of the country, killing thousands and doing countless hundreds of billions of yen in damage. Luckily, most of the region was farming and mountainous, so casualties were limited, however it is a crippling blow to many who live on the northern island.
African War
(99 + 15 = 114 Critical Success!)
The joint Ethiopian and Kenyan force made a significant push two days ago, they managed to take many of the cities they had aimed for and even claimed additional ground ahead of that. Expects see that the war is already lost for Somalia, as their entire production base and much of their military has been captured or destroyed.

There have been strange events being reported recently. People appearing and then disappearing or a strange light flowing from nowhere. Most of these events have been reported over the American continent, with the recent disappearances happening at the northern border it is expected that the majority of these are hoaxes looking for attention. Some worth needs to be put to these words as a short recording was recovered from the recent terrorist attack.
It shows the town before the fire consumed everything. It is a short recording of street that is covered in bodies and damaged buildings. The clip only manages to show a person running down the street, covered in blood before an enormous shadow falls over the camera and destroys it. It has been speculated that this is a hoax of some sort, but it is thought of as unlikely, as the recording was leaked by military analysts located in the attacked town.

Since The Beginning and The End form a cycle (i.e. Infinity) and we have an affinity for fire. Does that mean Cerys is a Phoenix?
Anyway, now that we know there are disappearances around the Canada-US border, we need to be much more careful then we were. That means not poking the mysterious giant fish!
We should keep up our thermal sense constantly active instead of only using it passively.
We also need to decide if we want to stay close to the road or not. The problem is that we don't know how exactly and where these disappearances happened.

I don't really notice any different on the character sheet (health, base resilence, and base damage are the same), I kind of wonder what it did mechanically.
Super abilities are beautiful. Just saying
edit: Also this fulfills the base need of having a anti-mind control ability, though since we don't keep the skill up 24/7 once we have much better control we'd probably still want to work on a more passive ability to do that.
Also this for training, since we can shape the field, I suggest for practice shaping it so that it goes around us and one object we are not touching and try to practice not breaking that object down while using our aura. Practice to master only effecting certain objects.
I am honestly surprised we even got flight level 1
Would flight level 1 have been better if we rolled higher or was the dc for the beginning stages of flight just really low? Would a high roll have just let us start at flight level 2?
Well actually having to grind flight to the point of actual flight over time is a good way to avoid the chance of a critical success giving us actual flight with no problems right off the bat…
It is too bad that this isn't a place where we can grind more flashy magic like ignition aura, since multiple of our abilities currently have damage based off of it (thermal weapons, and lesser ignition aura)
edit: Also as the updates notes we should really go full magical girl at some point, I was originally against it back before Una made the promise, but it seems we forgot to test it after she did.
Knowing what differences may exist while transformed would be useful.
As would, hopefully, making it so that max transformation time (if we have a max transformation time) is something that can be increased with training as that wasn't possible in Crystal Watcher's quest and it is early enough now that there is a chance that making it possible to do might be within our grasp.
If that is the case, it is probably the fact that they think it is unlikely to be a hoax is the best option
The sooner the world at large actually know about demons and can start preparing for them the better.
I think it says something about the UK's intrigue action last interlude, as well as The commonwealth's crit this chapter that the EU is still floundering on a 76.
This is actually pretty devestating not just to Japan but to us as well seeing as Japan is the nation that kind of largely helps defines magical girls and makes the magical girl animes. The recovery from this probably will take a while.
I know that the demon started the fight, but we are the ones who started the fire and the majority of the injuries and deaths are probably the result of those fires.
It would do well to remember that going forward.
