Magical Girl Quest - The Fire That Burns

That depends on the context.
If you die because something was stronger than you thought it was, back to the last checkpoint.
If you die because you persevere in doing something (stupidly) suicidal, you are dead as fuck.
Will likely take over as Una or [~SPOILER~]

In other words, no Leeroy Jenkins or messing with our soul and we should be fine?

He might be talking about our past actions. We did 'technically' rush straight into a Dark Mage of unknow abilities...

But this is still not messing with our soul, is it?

I am kind of hoping that Rukia meant past occassions, such as us trying to do weird stuff with the auras... mostly because I really can not see anything here that would count as trying to mess with our soul.
---[X] Have your magic End the target, but let it not just turn into activating Alpha and Omega
---[X] Have it shield the target to End all damage done to it
---[X] See about turning your magical glow-light into a strong flare for but a moment, to blind enemies; warn potential onlookers to look away
The first one might count... but I am going to be really annoyed if we die due to a nat 1 or because Cerys went and hurt herself trying to push results again.

Speaking of which, @Rukia, what happens if we die to a nat 1 roll on somewhat dangerous magic experiments?

Oh... Maybe the magic cloud is actually our soul? I hope it's not the case.

Oh... Maybe the magic cloud is actually our soul? I hope it's not the case.

That is another idea... we know that magic comes directly from our soul, so any experimentation would be 'messing' with it...

So charging in will lead to true death, but using our abilities smartly will lead to less xp... this quest is so confusing sometimes.
You have to differentiate.

Charging in and dieing because the enemy was stronger than expected is fine.
Charging in against something we know is far stronger is true death.

Okay, we are safe.
Because I definitely had no idea that the experiments I have Cerys do could be so far over her current limit :V
(I mean it, actually.)
The only one that might be above Cerys' current limit was the shield. I don't think we have the control necessary to shape our magic into a bubble.

I dunno, fiddling with Conceptual magic after being told it's not something we're really capable of is pretty over the top.

THOSE WHO BURN BRIGHTEST
Rule number one of Horror Stories, don't go it alone, ever. Your armour appears in a flash while you reach down and flick your radio to life, slowly floating away from the camp and gently setting yourself down a mile away. "All Enforcers nearby to the Quarantine." You pause for a moment as you have a sudden idea, it really would sound better like that wouldn't it? "Ignition Knight reporting in, I'm on site and am requesting non-critical backup." The line is filled with the shush of radios for a moment before you hear several different people speak to each other quickly in German.

After a minute or so, which you use to start constructing your new target dummy, an aged man speaks back to you in English. "You've got fourteen of us that don't have important jobs right now, where do you need us?"

You add the finishing touches as you speak. "Meet me at the front gate, I should be clearly visible. I don't want to take any chances with this." He calls back with an affirmative as you try an idea that seems pretty important considering the dark rooms ahead of you. Flashbang.

You gently make yourself glow and with a harsh crack, flare your light bright enough that the glare from a distant window stings your eyes. Owwwww, ok, that works. Blinding light check.

You gently engulf your target with a cloud of magic, keeping a wary eye on the camp, but not seeing anything. You wait a little longer, but start on your test when nothing jumps out at you, which would be pretty hard, seeing as you are in an open field. Ok, END. You focus on your magic in the cloud, and try your best to END the dummy.

You feel [NOTHING]. Your arm slowly loses strength and your sword clatters to the ground as you stumble to the side drunkenly. Your breath escapes you in enormous gouts of steam, mind fuzzy as you try to focus on your hand, but everything just slides away from you. You fall to the ground as you feel a trickle of blood slide down your cheek, hand twitching slowly to touch it, coming back slick with blood as your fuzziness gets worse. You see something in the distance and you blearily look at it.

Your eyes strain at nothing, something fading in and out of your vision as you clench your teeth, the worst of the fuzz passing. When your vision clears more, you are alone on the field, not even the whisper of the wind to keep you company.

You shakily push yourself to your feet, letting your flight take your weight instead of trying to stand as you gently float above the ground. When you look around further, you are still completely alone, not a single thing moves around you. Slowly, the world comes back to life. You see the grass start to twitch in a minute wind, the clouds overhead regaining their colour as you slowly regain your strength. You are still breathing harshly when you see it, just a tiny flick of black, but against the orange walls it couldn't be more obvious. A claw.

You straighten up as best you can, suddenly aware of how your armour was half gone and what was left was just gently floating away as motes of light. You reform it as quickly as you can, remaking your sword as the one in your hand falls to pieces, clumsily throwing your thermal sense towards it as quickly as you can. You don't feel anything from it, even as you see the barest glimpse of white bone before it slides back through the wall. You shakily reach down to your radio and flick it on, the blood coating your hands making it slide on the smooth metal. "I--" You are interrupted by your throat clamping shut and sending you into a coughing fit, tiny little specks of blood appearing on your hand as you bend over.

You breath harshly as you try again. "I've spotted the Ghosts. I'm pretty fucked up and I think something is messing with my brain." That lingering fuzziness still dulled your movements, body moving half a second after you tell it to. You fumble your Regeneration to life, sighing slightly as it instantly soothes some of the pain from your wounds.

The man speaks back to you immediately after you finish. "My group is only five minute out, are you safe until then?"

"Y-Yes, I can still fly. I don't think they can reach up here." You push yourself a little higher, well out of jumping distance from anything.

"Good, stay put, we're on our way." With that, he drops his end and you slowly clip your radio back to your belt. You feel a slight tickle as blood flows down your neck and onto your armour, but the flow seems to be slowing for now, enough that you don't feel like you are going to bleed to death right now. You catch another glimpse of claw, stiffening as you follow it's movements before it retracts back inside the wall. Are they trying to lure me in?

You ignore their lures, staying right where you are until you see a car tearing it's way down the road. It pulls over quickly, people spilling out in a semi-circle before they spot you floating there. You gently set yourself down, keeping your eyes on the section of wall you always seem them appear at. They approach you quickly, forming up around you as a medic reaches for you, you let him set you down on the ground. He runs his hands over your head and you instantly feel a lot better, everything was still kind of wavering, but your body responded to you as it should and you couldn't feel any more bleeding. He runs a hand along your chest, glowing palm soothing the chest pains as he goes.

(Ignition Knight: 112 + 200 = 312)

He helps you stand after a moment, propping you up before you rest your weight on your own feet. An older man turns from the semi-circle, nodding at you briefly before speaking. "You see whatever did that to you, or was it the ghosts?"

You shake your head as you ready yourself, sword held forwards as you take point. "No, I was quickly trying something with my magic when suddenly I was..." The empty of nothing. "Something happened to me." You slow as you stand near the gate, subtly flaring your magic as you tentatively ready your barrier. You are feeling significantly more worried about using it than normal, after what happened earlier, but it starts fine. You make sure to keep it limited to just around you as you step forwards. "I'm sorry about the barrier, but it's the best for dealing with incorporeal things." I think.

The man behind you nods and you feel their magic build up, ready to fire. They stay behind you, though they spread out slightly, making sure to stay well away from the walls. You slowly walk towards the courtyard, passing by the incinerator as you go. You keep a wary eye on it as you pass, all of a sudden, you notice the ominous watching feeling that was mentioned. You halt, shifting away from any walls. "We aren't alone here, huddle up behind me." They quickly shuffle to follow your orders, making sure to keep away from your barrier as they do.

You barely get any warning, there is a brief peek of white bone, before you feel something colliding with your barrier. It slides over, halting for a brief moment before it is devoured completely. You snap towards the white, catching a brief glimpse of your target sinking back into the ground as you reflexively Halt it.

It stops there, half buried in the ground as the team behind you finally reacts, unleashing a fusillade of magic.

It tears the creature to shreds, its wispy phantasmal body offering no resistance to the wall of magic at all. It barely manages to maintain cohesion, holding the last few dark wisps of it's body together as you swing your sword through it. It passes through, doing exactly nothing and you quickly spin and fire a spear at it's trapped form.

Your spear plunges deeply, and what is left of its form just falls apart, tiny wisps of magic floating off into the wind.

You take a quick breath, recently healed injuries straining at your quick movement as you step back towards your group. "There are probably more, stay close." You don't see them nod, but you feel them creep closer, spells hovering ready. You take a step towards the Incinerator, before a clawed arm suddenly reaches for you through the solid concrete wall. You duck backwards, catching your fall on a sword as you use it to push you out of the way of its downwards swing. When it's claws connect with the floor, they cleave straight through the concrete without effort, making your eyes widen as the arm pulls back through the wall.

You hop back, eyeing it warily as you hold your sword ready, for what good it will do. It doesn't resurface again, so you share a look with your team, stepping forwards into it's range. It swings from below this time, but you snap a Halt off faster than you ever have before, the claws just barely scratching your armour as it is stuck.

You take the brief moment of stillness to jump out of the way, shooting a pair of spears just as your team fires where you were.

You hear a brief warning from behind you, you're already turned half a step, just far enough to watch the enormous claws slide through a wall towards you. You raise your sword and let yourself fall back, bracing yourself for the hit.

I...Cannot...Die...Just....Yet...

They shear straight through your sword, ignoring your armour as if it didn't exist. You feel them sink deeply into your stomach, tearing a path through you, the very tip of its claws scratching along your spine before they tear out of your chest. You fall back to the ground, lungs not taking in to air as you gasp. You desperately rush magic towards your chest as you stomp your right leg into the concrete, shakily holding a hand forwards at the horribly exposed monster. A silent whine builds up in the air as a flickering of blue Plasma builds up at the end of your hand, you grit your teeth as blood streams down your lips, crushing the sphere in your grip as the edge touches the ghosts chest.

Everything disappears in a white flash, and you see darkness.
