Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

Ooh, so close. I'm loving it. :) Chevalier has 26 votes and 50% exactly, while Cailleach has 24 votes.

I'll probably close the vote tonight, maybe 5-6 hours from now. If you haven't voted yet or want to adjust your vote, speak now or forever hold your peace.

...well then. One vote from Chevalier to Cailleach it is.

[X] Dragon
[X] Vista
[X] Cailleach

That should mean they both have 25 votes now.

Oh, fine. I'll just overwrite my old vote, since I can't find it.

[X] Cailleach

Pretty sure I HAD a vote for Vista and Dragon, which should nudge the percentages a bit.

It seems to me that people are making the extremely misguided assumption that just because our victory over Coil is almost inevitable the victory will come without cost. Considering who he is, Coil could well manage to bring us into conflict with the local PRT and Protectorate branches. While Dragon is of some help in this regard, Chevalier is even more as he has actual legal authority and position that can be used to protect us.

I'd rather avoid the resulting snafu from having to paste a PRT team that Coil has tricked into fighting us.

Bring Cailleach might aid our minor long term goal of befriending her, but it will probably actively hinder our objectives this arc by having a known villain accompanying us, which is something Coil can use to bring the PRT into conflict with us.

Interesting points, and while you aren't exactly on the right track, who you choose to bring along will influence how well different plans to take Coil down will work.

Short version is this: Chevalier being an official member of the Protectorate definitely has advantages if you want to go after Calvert. If you want to go after Coil and then later be like "Oh Mr. PRT Agent, I had no idea the mass-murdering terrorist villain Coil was secretly this Calvert guy! You're going to make his trial super-public and then throw him in a cell for the rest of his life and not let him out on a shady deal? Okay by me!", then Chev won't be innately superior.

The idea that we'd be just auto-tricked into fighting a PRT team (rather than able to ID them by one means or another, or just ignoring anyone not our actual cape target) is quite shaky and created from nothing.

Legal authority? Chevalier's would only go so far considering he'd be operating outside of his actual jurisdiction, and going after another PRT/Protectorate officer besides. I don't see how Philadelphia vs Chicago authority does anything that "Dragon talks to the right people" can't itself, and ignores the fact that "legal authority" only means so much when you look at the way they prioritize some capes over others (see Simurgh containment) and the way they react to Unwritten Rules breaches.

Having a "known villain" accompany us...ignoring any means we might attempt to disguise her or just keep her involvement quiet (if we set up ambushes rather than say, blindly charge the PRT barracks to attack Calvert in plain view, its quite possible) .... theres still the way we can point to our major success with Purity (a high rank blaster they are quite happy to have, which we didn't even try to poach for ourselves as far as they can see...despite teleport and recursion giving us opportunities likewise) ; the fact we previously worked with them under Protectorate Approval with the anti-gang fight AND the fact that Chevalier happily went to a meeting with the exact same "VIllain Group" and gave us no inkling of a "don't you dare Scab this picket line" warning ; the fact that Calvert is a PRT official invited to the city and thus , while we have additional crimes on top of what the Protectorate gave him a reprieve on, we needed to isolate him BEFORE we alerted people he had contact to (thats why we brought respected and protectorate-affiliate Dragon in, she could vouch for us and keep an official eye on it while being too isolated to compromise) ....

Yeah, with his record compared to the record of events in Philly, how exactly do you see Coil using the presence of Cailleach against us, even after the unproven "we'll have to go stand up in front of the Protectorate and explain her presence" assertion?

And, missing a point Silently Watches has made before.... this is meant to be heat of the moment, leaving in twenty minutes....we were explicitly told that taking time to try and prepare a case file of evidence and get our ducks in a row are why Coil isn't already out of the picture back in BB and implied that we might lose him again if we tried.

So, Stupidity is the only option then? Fun fun fun.

Perhaps I am being unfair, but this whole "We can't cover our asses in advance, Coil might get away" that I'm getting out of it isn't a very good move at all imo.

'No time to make a comprehensive plan' is not even remotely the same as 'guaranteed stupidity'. We can still do this, we just have to move quickly rather than taking our time.

With the way you're acting, it feels like you think we're being railroaded, which is really not at all the case. Stuff like this happens, deadlines and time limits exist.

More like Coil is at a disadvantage whenever he's on the defensive.
True, but we're not known for being subtle, so he is going to know we're coming.

Not really, just not exactly looking forward to the blowback we're likely to experience from this.

There's also the fact that if we use Recursion Field only Coil and the people we are bringing along would be sucked in.

Yeah, I just checked. According to the FAQ, Chevalier's power fits for the RF, same as with Cailleach, Vista and Miss Militia.

Bad news is, all the Undersiders fill the categories far as I can see, as well as the Fantastic Fake, probably.

So Coil would have his mercenaries taken out of the picture, which makes this significantly easier.

EDIT:
Oh yes, completely ignoring the fact that the QM has given several reasons why it ought to be minimal?

Get off the pessimism train already.
There's no need to be so aggressive. He didn't say anything offensive, so tone it down, please?

You mean about Vista and Chevalier not being the most compatible pair to bring? I'm not exactly in favor of bringing Vista along either.

I'm not saying that the PRT coming into conflict with us is guaranteed here, but it's a real possibility that should be prepared for and effort should be taken to prevent. Everybody voting for Cailleach, however, seems to be more concerned with having pursuing a relationship with her than actually dealing with Coil.

What? :???: Tattletale and Imp are the only Undersiders who would be excluded.

Grue has darkness generation, an area-based exotic effect.
Regent has his puppeteering, an active telepathic manipulation.
Bitch has her dog biggening, a touch-based exotic effect.

These are power types that would be vulnerable to Recursion Field.

It's been long enough with little enough change that I'll go ahead and call it. Been just a little over 5 hours, but still long enough to count!

Dragon and Vista were definites from the start, with 46 votes (88%) and 36 votes (69%) respectively.

The problem lies in your third slot, with Chevalier and Cailleach now tied at 25 votes (48%). Before my last announcement, Chevalier was at 50% exactly, which… ehhh. Not a majority, but I'd be nice and let it slide through the crack just this once. Mostly because I can make his joining fun for me and plot stuff for later.

So… @Alayne. You were the only person who changed your vote after my last announcement. Would you like to move your support back to Chevalier and bring him as the third party member?

(@Dalxein, your earlier vote included Cailleach, so you revoting actually made no difference.)
Adhoc vote count started by Silently Watches on May 24, 2018 at 3:39 PM, finished with 15685 posts and 52 votes.
