Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

Rather quite curious who would care so little about collateral to kill however many people lived in the complex(~50-100, maybe more dunno), just to get a chance at killing Taylor. Not sure we've really made many enemies that monstrous, so it should be interesting to learn who did it.

More concerning, whatever shenanigans went on over there seemed to be targeting Taylor.

I'm tempted to scream Coil, given he appears to be in town. He could've tried and failed to recruit Taylor in one of his simulations, so killing her is his next best choice.

Bakuda seems to not have been recruited by the ABB in this fic, so Coil either hiring her or commissioning bombs is possible, though we need to remember that Winter Hill used tinkertech to off Cadejo last arc. The same person could have provided the devices for both situations.

First thought on reading was normal-bomb from rogue privateers with a grudge (because they know where Taylor lives), on reading Bakuda did seem an obvious next thought from amorphous-solid/crystal bomb and I can't remember if we know their status.

But speculating further on the issue....
1. Who else knows where Taylor lives? How about the one Adept who made that power-enhancing statue, the one who can teleport to certain locations but totally promises not to abuse it (i will re-look what Epoch said to reassure us, might misremember). And wasn't the statue maker some sort of geomancer? Neither of them were among the Adepts who tested as having a linker core, right?
2. What if anything does Taylor know about other residents of her building, or (if we were voting here and all) could she quickly have Perfect Storm look up? Protagonist bias aside it might be worthwhile considering if Taylor wasn't even the target, just we had a neighbor that hadn't come to our attention yet.

Oh hi there Kaizuki...don't their questions about it being a Wish granted on the worst day of our life make you wonder? :V (We never realized there was a third crossover element to this story!!! Or, ya know, they suspect jewel seeds. Whatever)

To quote myself…
"What do you know of our membership?" You shake your head. "We have only one teleporter among our ranks, and his power is… awkward. Once he has a mental image of a person, he can go to one of two places: either to their side or to the heart of their domain, the place where they feel safest. For Tinkers, it tends to be their workshops; for some professional heroes, their mission rooms or common areas of their bases; but for most of us, it is our bedrooms. I assure you, Calamity Witch, Planeswalker is the very soul of discretion. He does not leave the room where he finds himself; he does not dig around in people's belongings or examine their photographs. All he does is leave the gifts and return to our base. He knows that his power treads upon the Unwritten Rules, but it is safer for him and you both not to appear next to you in public while you are in your secret identity.
Planeswalker promised not to abuse his knowledge of where people live.
"Let's start with something easy. Were you the ones who left the statue?"

"We were. Did you like it?"

You eye him incredulously. They tracked down your civilian identity, broke into your house, and he's worried that you didn't like the statue? "Not my style."

Epoch chuckles and nods. "Understood. Geomancer's tastes aren't for everyone, but he's just so earnest with his work that no one has the heart to tell him."
And yes, Geomancer is the geomancer who makes the statues.

Neither of them had Linker Cores. The only Adepts with Linker Cores are listed in the "Magical Potentiates" character sheet.

Somewhere in the arc following the Simurgh attack somebody posted a scorecard showing who is dead, who is alive, and who is Zized.
Could I get a link to that, and would it be possible to file it under the "informational" threadmarks?
For some reason I thought Bakuda was pushing up the daisies.

Validate never showed up in Brockton Bay. Taylor and Dragon talked about her briefly in Arc 4 I believe.

Ah, I'd still like to find that scorecard post as it would help refresh my memory. I've been away from the quest since February due to working two jobs, a full time temp job that finished today and a part-time job on the weekends. Often I only had an hour of "down time" in the evening and couldn't keep up. Hence my lack of participation. I'll probably start participating again at the next vote/discussion.

...it's kinda cute how you all just immediately assume this was an attack on Taylor/Samantha. It may have had nothing to do with us, until the amberification, y'know.

That was my thought as well, but we just don't have the time or training to properly investigate. The police and PRT have properly trained investigators, let them figure out if it was targeting us or not.
Although it might help if we told Vista about this and ask her advice if we should mention that CW used to live there.

Excuse me....

Note the QM didn't answer the second theory of my post, only the first :p (Though no insightfuls like Coil/Bakuda comments got, and the answer given to me doesn't really negate the theory of Planeswalker and Geomancer feeling differently about us now they can't get magic... no evidence they were that angry over it either though. Biggest "hope" there is that this house was no longer where Planeswalker's teleport would go anyways...but where would it send him? )

You try and fail to hide your smile at that. Too true, too true. "I suppose that takes the wind out of the sails of the idea I've been tossing around about spreading the Guardian Beast ritual worldwide. Nice as it would be to turn us into a moderate-magic world overnight… What?"

The smile has faded off Erga's face, and he rubs his chin. "Lanster, cover your ears, would you?" The woman glares at him and crosses her arm, and he just shrugs. "Officially, I can't say anything one way or another on that. The TSAB does its best not to interfere in the culture and development of Non-Administrated Worlds, let you seize your own destiny, yada yada yada."

"And unofficially?"

He hums. "Unofficially, I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but it is a risky one. We've only seen a little bit of your world, but from what we did see? Throwing a bunch of combat familiars into that mess is going to create a ton of chaos. Maybe it'll turn out good, maybe it'll turn out bad. No way to tell. But getting to the end is gonna be a wild ride. Just want you to know that ahead of time."
THAT"S NOT A NO! HAHA!
Erga nods. "So your world is still in the middle of a major upheaval. That explains some things we noticed. No one has fully figured out what to do about these new abilities popping up everywhere. The fact that so many are criminals would make it that much harder. Do you know what the source of these powers are?"
Add in this, they sound somewhat approving to me...

Forward Taylor! You're already in the heart of chaos! Can't make things much worse! And given Cauldron specifically sold Vials because stable people tended to be heroes or much less extreme and escalation prone villains, giving a Pokemon to your average 15 year old would more likely be giving them a shield/friend than sending them hero/villain-ing. Anyone with a cause, sure. But your average adult would more likely choose a gear or heal-bot and try to profit than anything else.

It might be retaliation for Snow White.
Attacking the home of the cape who saved her life? That's fucked up on multiple levels.
She saved her life from the crazed group of normals.
They attacked a cape in their civilian identity.
The cape in question is a minor (even though I don't know how public that info is).

If they wanted retaliation for Snow White, they would've attacked the Privateers. They're likely to disappear with a well placed assault, have one or no capes and overall inferior resources.
Unless the attacker is dumb as fuck or uses Snow White as a cover to make as much damage to civilians as possible.

So, I was wondering, @Silently Watches, but was any set of choices on our part that would've led to Taylor being there when the bomb went off?

Is there any chance that it could've led to her death?

No, this wasn't a possible death route.

Taylor's supposed to be LESS suicidal with Perfect Storm around!
Hey Silently, can Dragon make her own version of the linker core detector that Perfect Storm has?

Because if she can now ignore her restrictions can she go around recruiting people that she knows is reliable from among police and other groups in Canada to either strengthen the Guild or allow the Canadian government to form special task forces in law enforcement that is not reliant on Capes?

pretty sure all devices can do this. Whether or not thats allowed in dragons instincts is another issue as that's been discussed to be counter to how UD's are built to behave. It is a good plan though, and admittedly it's more likely Dragon would think of an apply it than Taylor.

Now that I think of it beyond the "Pokemon Go!" roflmao bit, I wonder how that'd actually work. Without a device it'd be a long and intensive training for any mage to learn anything useful and take a certain natural ability for math besides. Doing it with the Guardian beasts would create in itself a fair amount of confusion. Do you send the beasts out in the officers stead? Do you send them in tandem? Do the teams become half of the unit strength? does this double your unit, or double the number of units? Do you instead send in the officers as usual and have the beasts on cavalry?
Can Beast gears make Devices?
Can Dragon make devices? I dont think so.

The mechanism Perfect Storm has to scan people from a distance without bonding with them is unique. Theoretically, Tim or Dragon could duplicate it, but PS doesn't recall its own blueprints, and neither it nor Taylor is going to let them take it apart.

OOC, I'm willing to allow a Pets-plan Unison Device to be built because it would add an amusing amount of chaos, but otherwise this would tend to be the kind of story direction that needs to be front-and-center, not a side detail. That means Taylor needs to be involved, at least for the early portions of it.
Can Beast gears make Devices?
No.
Can Dragon make devices? I dont think so.
No.
