Being caught out lying here wont help anyone. Shes just bound to lose her only proper friend. Besides Taylor isnt a good enough lier to really get away with it.

As we saw last vote, honesty is the best policy. Even if we're dealing with a non-intellectual.

While this might seem to trusting pretending to be someone else only works if you had been trained by an intelligence outfit. It also never works out in the long term.

Added clarity in response to my comment is a lovely thing, as it's made me rethink on it...scenarios I see are

1. Admit openly to being Calamity Witch
a. good result - honest and trusting with (best friend at school , or a close enough friend to call one-of Best Friend(s) anywhere?) , no lies to backfire
b. Bad result - someone overhears doesnt follow the Rules, or Kayleigh is a potential antoganist probing for info (second seems less likely, from SW comments so far)
2. Claim to be Circus
a. good result - probes for information and may be amusing, protect true identity in a sense
b. bad result - Circus themselves come after us for identity theft, associates like Coil come after us because they learned of claim and believed (though he likely knows unmasked IDs of his people?) , overhearing person (potentially a random mundane) comes after us as a vigilante or personal revenge, Kayleigh learns of the lie later and reacts badly, Kayleigh makes plans or takes relying on our false answer and it goes badly because its untrue
3. Deny being a cape
a. Good result - most directly protective of secret identity, avoids potential trap or other listeners
b. Bad result - Can't see how this would lead to an interlude :p , shows distrust of Kayleigh if she later finds out we are a cape, likely miss whatever scenario she wanted us for and bad things may happen from lack of our help ,

Claiming to be Circus might be interesting omake-fodder , but if only for the added risks with her being a friend (who we're in regular contact with, and who knows our identity) it feels like thats too much of a risk for its upsides, and I can't see denial being a good idea UNLESS theres just no feasible option to try and make the chat more secure.

I fail to see why you think it left deep psychological scars, which is the impression I'm getting.

I got the impression they meant less that the first de-masking incident left scars on us (where yes, it gave some reason for us to fear it less, since it went well even) and more that since its not very long after and things haven't changed so much that Taylor should still be reacting largely the same as the first time (less fear for it being a friend, more fear for it being someone already in close contact).

This comment might be out of date though, as I fell asleep and never hit reply xD

-[X] Tease her a bit about mistaking us for a cape like them
-- [X] Ask, jokingly?, if now she'll reveal being a cape too

Actually, while I had the impression of Circus being more stealthy type Cape and not DoomBeam blaster....
"reflexes, balance, coordination" (we can fly and have shown some enhanced nimbleness like getting in her car)
"enhanced aim and spacial sense" (our general artillery fire, before even counting WAS, though I think our shooters are fly by wire rather than aimed dumbfire so eh)
"extra-dimensional storage space that includes disguises" (our barrier jacket, perfect storm generally)
"minor pyrokinesis" (not remotely minor, but still pyro)

Honestly, if Kayleigh had actually watched us being a cape (and only using shooters) she still might've been forgiven for mistaking us for Circus xD Seriously, check that list.

.... Are we sure Circus isn't secretly a self taught S rank or something? :V By the Powers we need to scan them for a core if we ever get the chance! Am I mistaken in thinking the Calamity Witch template would be a pure upgrade for Circus? (And how would Taylor feel anyways, about having someone get it? If we only have four to hand out its something to think about...)

-[X] Mess around with her for a moment regarding the idea that you might be CIRCUS of all people.
-[X] And by the name similarities, you'd guess she's Cailleach?

"Kayle. K A I L I E G H. Bit of an odd spelling. Irish, actually. And so similar to Cailleach... the local rogue. An Irish Hag, if memory serves. The goddess of harsh weather and fogs. Pretty similar to her parahuman powers. I'm not Circus, but perhaps you might be Cailliech?"

"Huh... Circus is a grab bag, but nothing ever suggested she was a thinker. Well, maybe the uncanny aim thing. I notice you didn't deny being a parahuman."

Sigh. "I'm not a parahuman. I keep telling people that, but so few of them listen. I'm Calamity, and I'm very literally a witch. Had a CAT scan to prove it and everything. And where exactly did you get the idea it would be smart to try and nab me in my civilian life? Capes kill each other for that. You're lucky we're friends and I'm not crazy!"

Kayliegh blanches. "Ah, yeah. Perhaps I hadn't thought this entirely through. Circus isn't known for leaving a trail of bodies though, and I need... help."

"I'm not circus, but I may be able to help. If you tell me why the heck you thought I was."

The blond girl blushes. "Well, the pair of you are sort of androgynous...You had the right powers back at the party. Enhanced agility, a pocket space to hide a costume for a quick change, fire balls, seriously uncanny aim. Then add that to what I mentioned earlier."

Something to consider, if people want to prompt Kayleigh on being a cape... do we really want to voice a theory instead of leaving it open ended?

I mean, think about how it sounds if we are wrong , and we just accused our high school bestie of being a drug-peddling gangster villain? (Whatever she or Winter Hill are actually like, and I have hopes they're at least negotiable with how Kayleigh talked about angel dust, public perception would likely lean to that sort of insulting view).

On the subvotes not chosen:
---Ribbing Kaileigh right now (when she's being so impulsive) isn't fitting with the tone of conversation.
---Guessing her cape name is a turnabout, but is extraneous. If she is telling us what the fuss is all about, she'll need to tell us anyway. If she isn't, it's only hurting our relationship more.
---Scanning her for Linker Core is far too premature. And suspicious as all hell besides when pulled out of the blue.
