Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

Huh, Danny triggering isn't something I saw coming. Still, it makes for an interesting twist. Danny seems a lot more proactive than in canon, I guess Taylor isn't the only one who needed the morale boost of superpowers. As for the vote...

[X] Become the Privateers' first mate – Joining the new family business might be pretty fun. If nothing else, you'll always have undue influence over the boss.

If the Privateers are going after the gangs, especially their money, they're going to hit back hard. I feel better about their odds if Taylor is on their side. Besides, Danny is more likely to think things through if his daughter might pay if he messes up. I do wonder how the PRT will react to the group though. Lone vigilantes and groups like New Wave might be tolerated, but a group like this I'm not so sure of. Oh, and...

[X] Calamity Witch

It doesn't sound terribly heroic, but it has a strength behind it that I like.

-[X] we need to keep dad in the straight and narrow.
Taylor isn't affected by Danny's control, so she could act as an intermediate for other people. We can save dying animals from death by making them our familiar and a exotic pet shop will give us options, or raiding a zoo/aquarium of dying/terminally sick animals is an option, or Ebay.

[X]Fusillade the Magical Girl of Artillery
I still believe this is a good idea. She is one after all, well technically, a scifi one.

[X] Stay single – Join a team? Never gonna happen! You're on a one-woman crusade against the gangs, and a team just raises the chance of friendly fire.

Alright, making a genuine plea here. As someone familiar with the QM's previous work, and the level of pleasure he takes in applying realistic consequences to his fiction, I cannot see the name "Calamity Witch" not getting us in some kind of shit that would otherwise be perfectly avoidable. Shit we'd have basically no backup for because we, as far as the protectorate can see, actively present ourselves in a threatening light (remember, as far as they know we made our costume ourselves) and are right about to attack every other relevant power in the city. And as for projections of strength and such, naming oneself like a saturday morning cartoon villain isn't going to intimidate the Boardwalk security, let alone a passel of Neo-nazis aping warrior culture.

Fusillade is nothing amazing, but it's thematically neutral enough that it's way less likely to provoke actively negative reactions from the protectorate, as well as be more intimidating as enemies try to wrap their heads around it to get some idea of our powerset and level of strength, potentially over/underestimating us (Please note "more intimidating" is relative here. In the same way being slapped in the face with a small trout is relatively more intimidating than being slapped in the face with a marshmallow).

I mean good grief, this is almost worse than Skyborne Vengeance. At least that could be argued to have shades of well intentioned extremist, Calamity Witch just sounds like a minion of Skeletor.

Thus why I want to go for Magical Girl Calamity Witch, so that it instead sounds like... nobody could really say what it sounds like. (which is kinda half the point.)

It seems like Fusillade is going to win though. Pity, that. Oh well, even if it isn't great it isn't bad either.

[X] Tell your father about the guardian beast ritual; if you are going to be in a gang, maybe he'll allow you to get something impressive? Like a tiger. ABB is likely traffcking in exotic animals.

[X] Calamity Witch.

A really bad implication with that name, but what the heck.
And suddenly, I have a really bad feeling where Danny might be going with the 'Vigilante' route. A really, really bad 'it's most likely going to end in tears' feeling.

If Taylor somehow gets her bug-powers, double-hivemind action! Wombo Combo!

Plus, it's probably best to keep an eye on dad - make sure that he has heavy artillery when needed, and in this town, it's definitely when and not if.

[X] Ninetails - They always said that the Captain's Daughter was the Cat-o'-ninetails, so it's either Cat or Ninetails.

This is going to be more lighthearted and funny than my other stuff (by a considerable degree, I expect), but I probably should remind everyone that yes, your Barrier Jacket is villainous-looking in much the same way that Skitter's canon costume was. Some of the local heroes might make some bad assumptions when you first start looking for trouble.

Take that as you will.

Theres not really much we can do about our barrier jacket at this stage anyway :p Well until Taylor figures out how to modify her jacket atleast. That said i kind of like our dark witch aesthetic even if it is going to cause problems down the road.

I figure now's a good time to check the current votes.

I didn't combine all the Magical Girl +/- Sailor votes with the main Fusillade or Calamity Witch, though I personally think that when the deadline gets nearer (I'm thinking maybe Friday night; it depends on how much conversation is still going on by Thursday) it would behoove you to do so.

The Dock workers union gets destroyed and suddenly a new vigilante group (read has gang) has appeared? doesn't take a thinker to connect the dots . Add Taylor to the mix and suddenly Tattletail has all she needs to find the identity of the Bay's newest blaster and through her the Bay's newest master, inevitably giving Coil access to that information. Bad idea.

Honestly, it's Coil. He has enough info to find out who Taylor is, just through a combo of PRT info and gang connections. Going independent makes us more vulnerable, since then we don't have a group to back us up when we get attacked, or at least that is how others would perceive it. And considering Coil's way of doing things, he would probably give the Privateers weapons and supplies, under the guise of 'a concerned citizen' who only wants to help. Coil wants the balance to be destabilized, and he would be quite willing to use a new and fairly powerful independent group to offset the other villains.

If we are going to name ourselves something along the lines of "Fusillade" with reference to the Privateers theme, we should be going with Cannonade instead.

That said, I do still think we should have some reference to magic on our name because this: (crosspost from SB in response to someone asking if "magic" capes weren't seen as kind of loony. REcieved a Like from Silently Watches.)

Yes, sort of. In our case however, since our outfit is already going to be referencing magic and we may find ourselves needing to use the magical terminology in public we should probably go the whole way. Going halfway would make us look loony as if we actually think it's the case, but going the whole way would have people thinking that we are going the route Myrrdin did: call it magic, dress so as to call to mind magic, name ourselves something that references magic, and the entire time be using it as a branding thing. Or for the people who think we actually believe it, it will make them less likely to bother us too much about our powers, just like they don't bother Myrrdin.

It's the kind of underestimation that lets us get away with not having to reveal stuff about our powers even when they know consciously that we are capable of mass destruction. Something that will be important when the PRT tries to get on our case, Armsmaster tries to lie-detector interrogate us, and when we say "It's Magic, dude" they just throw up their hands and give up because it's coming back as "True." We may need that sort of thing to keep them from trying to take away Perfect Storm at some point.

I think the reason they don't bother Myrrdin is that he has proven that he's extremely powerful, they still mock him though.
