Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

[X] Plan Obvious
-[X] Build advanced Device for Missy (2 slots, 1 tech point)
-[X] Build advanced Device for Laura (2 slots, 1 tech point)
-[X] Build elemental bullet press and guns for Kayleigh (1 slot, 1 tech point OR 0.5 slot, 0 tech points)
-[X] Build gravity flight harness for Kayleigh
-[X] Purchase Large Weapons (7 tech points)

[X] Plan Obvious

So, anyways folks. I don't think anyone has objections to making a powered armor for Kayleigh?

I'd say that for her armor there should be:

The base powered armor
-Antigravity system
-Full Flight system
-Active Camouflage/stealth system
-Shield generator

...

SW mentioned that a small core doesn't make the barrier jacket any weaker, which means Kayleigh will have "take RPG to the face, stand back up pissed" levels of durability without the power armor or shields. Would they really an improvement?

That said, a flight harness and cloaking device sound like very nice toys for our sharpshooter. Kayleigh will probably be more "finesse" compared to Taylor's "artillery at will", so she'll make good use of them. I'd propose we also, at some point, make sure Kayleigh gets some kind of long-range surveillance tech beyond a simple scope.

We don't need to specify which advanced device?
We just decide to build the device and we move on to setting up the character sheet vote iirc.

Oh, that's a thought: Give Kayleigh's powered armor a drone launch system that can launch scouting microdrones.

-Antigravity system
-Full Flight system
Do you really need both?
-Active Camouflage/stealth system
Tim can't build this yet. Yet being an important word.
We don't need to specify which advanced device?
Nope. In fact, I specifically said not to do that. Both girls have two advanced Devices that could work for them (Armed vs Boost for Missy and Intelligent vs Armed for Laura), so we'll pick their specific Devices at the same time as their spells.

Sooo... how hard would it be to get armour with this sort of functionality for Kayleigh? Or at least the manoeuvrability aspects since a barrier jacket mostly trumps armour?

Cause honestly, when people started talking about bonus manoeuvrability on a shooter this was the first place my mind went :D

It would take 3 slots (2 for the armor and 1 for the flight system, though you could squeeze something else into that flight slot like mechashift deployment or a weapon).

@TheirTheyre you realize there is already a plan that has all that, right? Unless you're against spending any of Tim's points, because that's the only difference between your vote and Plan Build up and Guns.

We could also replace the antigravity system for a energy cannon or some sort of multipurpose grenade/mortar launcher that can fire special munitions like time stop/sludge grenades, containment foam grenades, etc.

The armor should also have various miscellaneous gadgets that won't require a lot of power like grappling hook, storage points for Kayleigh's weapons and other stuff like that.

Basically stuff in the armor should give Kayleigh a ton of options for most situations. She's not going to match others in the groups' sheer power but she should be able to solve most situations via her sheer versatility.

SW also said that the power armor Tim can build is not as strong as a Barrier Jacket, though it is stronger than the Hazard Jacket a TG gets. As such, with what he currently has available to build, power armor just doesn't warrant the build slot expense.

Now, in a few months, that might change, and he can already build vehicles that are better than his power armor*, but right now, the flight harness is what Kayleigh needs to be an effective member of the adventuring party.

*In particular, the purchase of Large Weapons means he can now build vehicle mounted weapons.

A second line of protection is always a good thing to have. And a full flight system > gravity flight harness imo. If only in the speed maybe.

But once Tim has gotten active camoflauge tech building a powered armor for Kayleigh become much more viable.

A full flight system would be both faster and more maneuverable. The flight system has thrusters, so Kayleigh could hover in the air and make small movements. The gravity harness creates a new vector along which gravity is pulling her and only her. So she can fly, no question, but she can't hover because gravity is still pulling her upwards. On the plus side, to get from ground to rooftop is super easy, and with the harness she can run on walls or ceilings because it's literally just a new floor for her.

I support getting her better gear later. What I want Tim to focus on next is enough Devices to make Standstill's template. This lets all of our combat group start getting experience as soon as possible, as it takes a long time to get them up to their full potential.

@Silently Watches Would it be alright to make the build vote upcoming say "Advanced Device for Standstill/Sarah" instead of trying to get people to vote for a specific Device type? That lets us split the 'build Devices' vote and the 'choose template' vote. I suspect more people will be interested in participating in the 'which template' vote when it is a vote unto itself.

So, no making herself weightless or setting things to a low gravity mode?

I take it you mean when building Devices to feed into a template? Sure, we could do that.

You could do a low gravity mode, but no weightlessness.

Also, I think we have an obvious winner for this vote, so I'm closing things early.

Ooh, new idea( I think)! Could Tim make something that could be attached to objects that then greatly increases the force of gravity on it? I can think of all sorts of fun we could have with that. If we could also adjust the direction that gravity is moving the object, we would be able to turn any random object into a substantial weapon, like a battering ram. It would obviously be rather limited if being aimed at a mobile target.

Vote Missy

This is why I didn't want you guys to vote on a specific Device type for Missy and Laura in the general build vote. I think these votes are going to be contentious enough (or at least complicated enough) that I want to take them one by one.

We're going to start with our best girl Missy. As a recap, she's a AA-rank mage with the Summoner Rare Skill, though you don't know exactly what she summons. But I do. She also has a prosthetic combat arm with hardlight shield and particle cannon, which honestly could sub for Strong Shield and a semi-bombardment spell in their own rights.

The reason I bring this up is that her fighting style, learned as Vista back in Brockton Bay, is a hit and run approach that would be suited to an Armed Device, but her Rare Skill requires a Boost Device to use Champion and Giant summons (AKA, the Good Stuff ©). Three options jump out at me, though obviously there are many other possibilities.

[ ] (Armed Device) Ninja

Just give her an Armed Device and let her go to town. She gets Knight Armor and Charge Cartridge for free, which is awesome, and can use the melee versions of Busters and Breakers if you want. The downside is that she can only use the Swarm version of her summons, which aren't super helpful in a fight.

[ ] (Boost Device) Summoner

The opposite end of the spectrum. A Boost Device keeps her out of danger, but she still has the Barrier Jacket to keep her safe if someone closes in. She also gets to use her Champion and Giant summons, which are Buster and Breaker tier all on their own. Unfortunately while mixing it up in melee is possible thanks to cross training, it's more difficult.

If mixing and matching is what you're interested in, though, you might find this interesting:

[ ] (Boost Device) Full Naruto

This is a high-risk high-reward hybrid style. It takes advantage of something Fate shows off in canon and that I've touched on very briefly in-story, namely alternate Barrier Jacket modes. A Sonic Form Barrier Jacket would give Missy a permanent boost to her speed while the Jacket's on and amplifies all movement spells, including Aerial Combat and Blitz Action, to the same degree as Taylor's in the process (which means supersonic flight). The downside is that it drops her defenses from Barrier Jacket level to Hazard Jacket*. Remember how an RPG gave Taylor a concussion and broken ribs through her Barrier Jacket? The same attack would seriously injure Missy through Sonic Form. You'd also have to give her a physical or hardlight weapon to fight with (which is why I gave myself wiggle room with the bullet press) or teach her the Flash Forge spell, but she could do hit and run attacks while her Champion summon (plus/minus a Guardian Beast?) is serving as the tank.

* Technically you could let her switch between normal and Sonic forms by making it a modification tier spell, thereby letting her keep the full Barrier Jacket for those Oh Shit circumstances, but that would count against her spell slots. Setting her up to have Auto-Haste all the time I'm willing to do for free.

Once you decide THAT, we also need:
-[ ] (Device) Write in name
-[ ] Write in one-handed weapon (optional, Boost Device only)
-[ ] Spell #1
-[ ] Spell #2
-[ ] Spell #3
-[ ] Spell #4

Maybe? We'd have to think about how it works for me to say yes or no and how to do it.

Like there's a choice. Missy is tired of playing it safe, especially now that's she's on a team with a dedicated healer.

Not sure about the sub-votes, though.

Why do we want Missy to do Melee? I thought the whole point of her combat arm was to enhance her mid range combat preference?
