Well. I believe that we got a clear hint that our assigned forces are not enough for this task.
Who shall we ask for assistance?
Salamanders hate dark eldars, but we already asked them for favor, so....

We don't necessarily need a favor to ask for military aid, but in the Blazing Wardens' case, they are from another Sector, so it would sadly probably require one. On the other hand, Aetelian locals don't have that kind of problem, since this is where they are based anyway. Basically we send requests and depending on our relations and our Fellowship, they will be answered even if we have no favors held. And thankfully we have mostly good relations all around the Sector. So with that in mind...

[X] Plan Death To The Alien
-[X] Call for the Order of the Thorned Spear to join the Mist Shrikes in crushing the Genestealer uprising on Lezo
-[X] Request Lord Admiral Adherbal send a battlegroup to Zatloczony Tertius to bring the attacking Eldar ships to heel
-[X] Tell Lord General Tavisolta to send reinforcements to Lezo, and only if there are still men to spare after the mustering for the Sector Capital, send some to Faisal and Seibourc

I didn't include the pirate mission because there's already Adherbal's nephew assigned to it in the description, and most of our other good relations are not the sort of people that can send out an army or a fleet to wherever they want. Also we have a Major Favor with the Sisters, so even if they for whatever reason didn't want to incinerate some Xenos and mutants, we could call it in. Looking at you, Harker and Kalivnova

Looks good.

Huh... found something:
The Stormbird could carry at least 50 fully armored marines into battles.[1][4] Alternatively it could carry up to 5 Dreadnoughts, including the mighty Leviathan; Jump-pack equipped infantry; Rapier batteries; bikes; jetbikes; a Rhino armoured transport; or a mixed force. The Stormbird's standard armament was four turret-mounted twin linked lascannons, three twin-linked heavy bolters, and a complement of six dreadstrike missiles. It was also equipped with particularly dense composite armour plating, and is further protected by a series of void shield generators which it can extend to protect disembarking troops and war machines. Its shields allowed it to be impervious to all ground fire save Defense Lasers.[8]
I heard somewhere that a Thunderhawk is basically a flying Land Raider.

The Stormbird sounds like a flying Astraeus.

It's actually fairly interesting. The Thunderhawk was brought in for supply reasons. Easier to build and still viable. But that was still during the Legion days were supply lines stretched further and further and complex technology was more difficult to maintain (similar to the Volkites).

Chapters are a lot more indipendent and have much smaller and more specialized needs (they just don't have the tech to build them in the first place). Volkites will probably not become a mainstay, since Bolters are simply too useful, but the Stormbird might replace the Thunderhawk for us. It certainly fits into the Demi-company organization we've got going and could neatly replace the Land Raider for transport and heavy fire support.

At least to a degree.

We'll have to see if we can add Raven Guard stealth technology (Shadowhawk).

Hm... The Dark Angel Successor presents an opportunity. Maybe we can trade for their Nephilim design or get a favor to aquire it. It would be a fast Interceptor to support our larger Gunship.

Would counter the Stormbird's downside of being targeted by multiple enemies and losing 50 Marines at once.

While the Stormbird is pretty much objectively a superior troop transport, do keep in mind that the Thunderhawk has it beat when it comes to vehicles. The Thunderhawk in its transportation configuration is equipped with 4 magnetic clamps on its underside that it can use to carry a Land Raider into battle, or alternatively 2 smaller vehicles like Whirlwinds or Predators. If you want to carry vehicles on a Stormbird, you're going to have to sacrifice space for your Astartes, and even then it would be a smaller amount than a Thunderhawk could bring.

Sadly I don't think we'll be able to trade for Unforgiven or Raven Guard technology. The former because they like to keep all their fancy toys to themselves and the latter because we straight up don't have any contact with them and they would probably sus out that we're not the sons of Corvus Corax. If Karark Zel is cool with it I would love to try to recreate the Shadowhawk technology though.

IIRC the biggest advantage of Thunderhawk vs Stormbird is that the former is a more or less complete STC whereas the latter is a hodgepodge of individual STC derived parts stitched together. Meaning that Thunderhawks are much easier to make and maintain.

Stormbirds are pretty rare, though, outside of first and second founding chapters or chapters like the Minatours. If memory serves, the Astarte had to switch due to losses in the Heresy, causing the switch to the smaller and more agile Thunderhawk. From there, it was attrition and tech loss that took out the majority afterwards.

Heck, the fact the master of the forge can make them makes him, along with other Heresy Era systems, inordinately valuable.

I mean... that's the sort of thing we picked Smilnay for. Their quality over quantity approach and tendency to try things out at least gives us an opportunity to bring them back into limited production.

Didn't we provide Volkite technology to the forge worlds. Did we get anything in return for it ? If not, it wouldn't hurt to ask them for aid.

We also probably shouldn't tell either of the forge worlds that we can make Volkite weaponry since they'll start asking questions on how we have that knowledge.

We didn't no. Honestly I think the fact that we can make Volkite is still a secret since we haven't ordered Zel to make any since we started the quest.

You never did that.

Edit: Ninja´d

Ah I see. @ThunderOwl Theoretically speaking, what sort of stuff could we trade Volkites for ? Favors or STC of equal value ?

Also, once the orbital docks are built, could Karak Zel build great crusade era escorts ?

It would be funny if we still retain the knowledge to build the great crusade era drop pods like the Dreadclaws that fell out of use with the loyalists because of their aggressive machine spirits.

Maybe a future "research option" to create advanced drop pods would be nice. ;)
