Maybe you can create Hobbiton but in space and less agricultural? Maybe base them off the Halflings from Conquest of Elysium or something like that. Maybe on their feudal world they like riding giant eagles and bring these beasts to war in the stars.

Imperial Guard Regiment
Okay so if/when I make a new regiment I'm gonna rip off this format okay?

Sorry for not answering sooner, my weekend has been kinda of a mess. Anyhow the concept is interesting although there are a few things to nitpick. The first is that the Brides of the Emperor were a bodyguard force for Vandire, not a proper army, so they shouldn't be on a planet on a random Sector. Secondly, a planet having zero relationship with the Ecclesiarchy in 40k is.....rough. you could make it so that they are less influential than usual, but that would require a reason for that lack of influence beyond "everyone hates their guts", especially after the reforms of Sebastian Thor.

On a different matter, I have a question for you readers. I've spent the last week rolling the space battles in Ertesis, Yerma and Gallienus assault on the Spaceport (which currently sits at 13K words of just mechanics), so would you prefer if I divided the update between Yerma and Ertesis or if I updated it all at once?

13k on just mechanics? Holy shit that's a lot of rolling... Which would be easier for you?

Personally I'd prefer the update to be all at once so we can have a more complete understanding of the situation before making any decisions

I would not mind either, but if given a choice I would prefer all at once. I love having something I can read on the train when it's going through net dead zones.

Yeah, I'd ultimately be down for divided chapters. I do have a preference for seeing Ertesis first, cuz I like Severus lol

Well for the brides of the emperor I remember reading how when the strike force came for Vandire head he surrounded himself with corps of brides instead of the templars so during the hight of the age of apostasy I personally think that it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility that attached to the "crusading fleets" would be a few squads of them, second I can change it so their still extremely distrustful of them kind of like how a Catholic and a Protestant will be Christians but still distrustful of each other.

@ThunderOwl what are your rules for doing rewrites on planet guides
You notify me that you have rewritten something, I check it out, if it's fine then the rewrite is canon and if it isn't you have the option of non-canonize it or keep the pre-written version.
Asking but what is a population of a feudal Ratling world?
As a feudal world, low billions. But that's just what I think, numbers in 40k are a guideline more than anything else.

Working on Of Shrikes and Wolves II currently, this part is more so a set up part for the next installment but it will also introduce a custom Xenos species that could work as a potential future enemy.

Watch-Fortress Castilos Nullifact, System Unknown, Sector Unknown, Ultima Segmentum

Artorius Strabo stands in a briefing room of Watch-Fortress Castilos Nullifact. The room was lit up, straining his eyes, yet it was a nuisance he dealt without complaint. The briefing room was sleek and dark ceramite, able to hold several squads of Astartes but only holding his Kill Team. The doors were sealed, the symbol of the Deathwatch and the Watch-Fortress standing prominently in white. In the center of the room was a holo-projector, displaying a solar system with a Xenos species in there. Around the projector was Strabo's Kill-Team, each paying close attention to the contents on the projector. Strabo would take a moment to examine his squad mates. Sergeant Illium stood near the head of the projector, his helmet was off, revealing his golden blonde hair that was roughly shoulder length. The marine was a son of Sanguinius, from the Sanguine Host chapter, his features reflecting his genesire. Strabo would look away, his gaze shifting to his next squadmate, Kazarim. Compared to Illium, Kazarim looked nothing like his genesire, Ferrus Manus, as Kazarim had a pair of bionic eyes that cast a red glare across the room. The top of his skull was also replaced with an adamantium plate, giving Kazarim the appearance of a servitor. The only saving grace that Strabo had when it came to the Iron Lord knowing his mood was his mouth, the only thing made of flesh left. It was currently twisted into a scowl, his skin stretching oddly against the metal plate that made up the rest of his skull. The son of Curze shifts his gaze across the projector, to his two remaining squad mates. Tonneburg was dead silent, gazing at the projector before noticing Strabo's gaze and leveling his own back at him. Tonneburg was from the Executioners Chapter, loyal sons of Dorn from the 3rd Founding. Like Kazarim, Tonneburg had a bionic left eye, but terrible scarring on the left side of his face that wrapped around to the back of his head. He had a shaved head and a short white mustache that had curled ends. Then Strabo would finally gaze at Ulrik Greatbellow, his final squadmate and more recently, training partner. The Space Wolf kept his attention to the projector, his beard trimmed and his hair put into a braid, grey hair dominating his hair but with a few vestiges of brown left. All the marines in the room bore signs of age, from wrinkles to greying hair, indicating their age and veterancy, while Strabo was the only remotely 'young' marine in the room. He even believed that the mortal currently using the holo-projector was older than him, Strabo able to spot the telltale signs of rejuvenat treatment on his skin.

Strabo finally turns to look at the mortal at the head of the projector. Though in most cases, Artorius would never listen to a mortal, his time in the Deathwatch had made him realize just how closely the Ordo Xenos directed Kill-Teams to important targets. The Inquisitor, a man who seemed to be a few centuries old, had a pair of cybernetic arms while wearing a set of battle worn power armor, with a power sword and plasma pistol at his side. The man held himself well, a scar across his pale face as he pointed towards the projector, towards a sector close to the Ghoul Stars. His name was Vito Garibaldi, and the Inquisitor was a frequent visitor to the Watch-Fortress.

"The Fertani are an omnivorous, reptilian Xeno species based in the Kerig Sector. They've inhabited this sector since 929.M40, though Imperial and Inquisitorial records indicate our first contact with the Xenos was back in the 38th Millenium. The Kerig Sector was abandoned by the Imperium after WAAAAGH! Blitztoof swept through the surrounding Sectors back in 755.M40 and we have records of a Fertani nomad fleet arriving in this area of space in 814.M40." Garibaldi says, zooming to a Sector outside of Imperial space. He presses a button on the projector's console; several planets within the Kerig Sector are highlighted, indicating Fertani habitation. "These Fertani call themselves the Unified Confederacies of the Fertani, and from what intelligence indicates, are gathering in their capital world, the former Imperial world of Bernelli Secundus."

The Inquisitor presses another button, zooming in on a binary star system deep within the Kerig Sector. There are several planets within the star system and a gas giant, and the projector indicates signs of habitation across all planets and several space stations of Xeno origins. "That is all good Inquisitor, but if we've known of these Xenos for centuries, why haven't we wiped them out yet?" Sergeant Illium asks, his lips forming a frown as he stares at the projector.

"We didn't have the resources Sergeant. Oftentimes when Imperial forces begin to gather resources for a Reclamation Crusade, another threat would arise. More recently, the rise of new Necron Dynasties or Xeno Minoris threats have forced our attention elsewhere. Not only that but the Fertani are an inherently fractious race, falling to civil wars. This constant infighting placed them low on the list of priorities as they were more often killing each other than invading humanities worlds. Case in point, when the Xenos first arrived in this region of space, they had called themselves the Fertani Directive, before falling to civil war in 872.M40, expelled the defeated side, renamed themselves to the Greater Fertani Authority, fell to another civil war in 117.M41, called themselves the Second Fertani Directive, rinse and repeat. Since then, the Fertani have fallen into four more civil wars and subsequent expellings of the defeated sides."

"You mention that the Fertani banish the defeated side and nomad fleets, does that mean there are more Fertani across the galaxy?" Artorius speaks up, causing the Inquisitor to glance towards the Mist Shrike. The mortal's eyes bore into the Astartes, those grey eyes showing a carefully kept look of impassiveness before Garibaldi nodded. "Indeed, it is an odd quirk of Fertani culture, psychology, religion and their civil wars. Their civil wars often span their planets and solar systems but rarely touch their spaceships, leading to large-scale warfare across their planets. What starts out as massive armies and the deaths of millions then quickly becomes smaller scale wars, until their civil war often ends in ritual honor duels of their leadership to the death, with the defeated side accepting their defeat and being banished from their system and forming a new nomadic fleet of Fertani. This had led to a culture that values martial traditions to the extreme, with the common Fertani being capable of taking up arms to defend or attack. On the other hand, these nomad fleets often wander the galaxy, occasionally settling planets and fall into their vicious cycle of civil wars until an outside threat forces them to leave the system entirely or be eliminated to the last. When they aren't settled on a planet, the Fertani nomads often raid Imperial supply lines, steal ships and change them into their foul Xeno designs, or even besiege planets to seize resources. Nomadic fleets often wait for opportunistic moments to strike Imperial space, records show they strike when Imperial attention is directed to bigger threats, hence how this fleet has taken over the Kerig Sector while the Imperium was busy with the Orkish WAAAGH and other Xeno threats" Garibaldi explains, before pressing a few more buttons into the cogitator. The projector changes from the system view to several pict-recordings and pictures of Fertani, their biology and its quirks. The average Fertani was of a dark blue phenotype, their scales the color of the ocean, with some Fertani known to have green, yellow and red colors as well. Garibaldi hands out several dataslates to the Kill-Team, Strabo taking his and beginning to read closely. The average Xeno was just shorter than an Astartes, stronger than regular mortal humans but weaker than a space marine, but faster than the Emperor's Angels.

"With how often those creatures have fallen to civil war, how have these ones not driven themselves to extinction?" Ulrik asks, ignoring the dataslate that was handed to him in favor of examining Xeno's biology on the projector. "As I said before, it is an odd combination of their culture, religion, and psychology. However, the Fertani also lay their young in large clutches of eggs, with the smallest clutches numbering three eggs and the largest being up to fifthteen eggs. Their biology allows them to reproduce quickly and the Xenos have long lives with long fertility periods." The man explains, indicating to the projector.

"We are here to slay Xenos, not discuss the finer parts of their culture and biology. What is our purpose here, Inquisitor Garibaldi?" Kazarim snarls out, his voice dripping with contempt as he glares at the projector before leveling his glare at Garibaldi. To his credit, the Inquisitor does not flinch and holds the gaze of the Iron Lord before switching the projector to a particular Fertani, dressed in excessive clothing and a large head piece. This Fertani was large, muscular, had yellow and blue scales and seemed to be on a raised stage in front of massive crowds.

"This is Kul'Narth'Vulla, a prominent leader within the Unified Confederacies of the Fertani and leader of the 'Fertani First' Party. The last civil war of the Fertani was back in 587.M41 and led to the current government of the Fertani. Since this establishment, the Fertani have been shockingly stable and not fallen into their typical civil war cycle, their only losses from having to deal with other Xeno forces and remnants of the Orkish WAAAGH. Due to this extended peace, the Fertani have managed to secure their control over the Kerig Sector and we estimate that their population is reaching record highs. Because of this, the Fertani have decided to turn their gaze outwards, which leads us to the Fertani First Party and Kul'Narth'Vulla. A populist, Vulla has been preaching that the Fertani should invade Imperial space and settle the neighboring Sectors. Due to this and the abhorrent, irrational hate towards humanity, her platform has been extremely popular. We believe that her and her cronies will win in the upcoming elections, something we cannot allow as local Imperial forces are currently tied up with Necrons and other minor xeno threats. The Fertani have increased their production of warships, amassing a sizable armada that can take over the neighboring Ravenna Sector." Garibaldi pauses here, the projector showing the Kerig Sector and the Ravenna Sector, as well as potential invasion routes the Fertani might take. Estimates of Imperial casualties reach billions, the fleet of the Ravenna Sector having recently been decimated by Necrons and Heretic forces, leading to a shockingly swift Fertani invasion of the Ravenna Sector.

"It is a shameful display of the humans in the Ravenna Sector, to be so quickly invaded…" Tonnerung quietly says, his tone blunt. Strabo cannot help but quietly disagree with his assessment before he feels a small bead of anxiety form in his gut. This was it, his first deployment in the Deathwatch, and the stakes were already incredibly high with an Imperial Sector at risk of Xenos invasion. He crosses his arms, a small but pensive frown covering his face. "What's our objective here? I doubt we alone can commit Xenocide against these Fertani." Artorius comments, rubbing his chin at the projection.

"You are correct, you cannot give the Xenos the gift of annihilation. Instead, Kill-Team Illium will engineer an assassination of Kul'Narth'Vulla and other high ranking party members in the Fertani First party. As you deal with them, you will leave behind evidence that the assassination was orchestrated by a rival party, the Holy Path of Purpose Party. The Holy Path is the Fertani First rivals in the elections and butt heads constantly with them, a large portion of the Fertani population following the two parties. With the leaders of the Fertain First Party dead and with a trail of evidence leading to their rivals, we estimate that this will be enough to trigger another civil war and subsequent expelling of a large portion of the Fertani population and cutting their armada in half." The projector shows estimations of casualties of the Fertani civil war, as well as their loss of strength in their navy as a new nomadic fleet exits the Kerig Sector. There's a harsh bark of laughter that comes from Ulrik, before he bears his teeth to the Inquisitor.

"Really? So your solution to a rising threat is to just let the Xenos form another fleet, a large one, and let another part of the Imperium suffer for it? Don't disgrace my ears with such tactics, cur." Ulrik growls out, leaning onto the holo-projector and looms over the Inquisitor. The Inquisitor tenses, the tension in the room suddenly rising as the Inquisitor lowers a hand to the pommel of his power sword. Before anything else can happen, a loud cracking noise echoes across the room, Illium having stomped his foot into the ceramite floor.

"Stand down Ulrik." Illium commands, holding the Space Wolves glare with an even expression. "We serve the Deathwatch, we do not make easy decisions, we make hard ones. The Imperium does not have enough local forces to mount a crusade against the Fertani, so this plan will have to be done for now." Ulrik stares at the son of Sanguinius, audibly grinding his teeth before the son of Russ finally leans back, conceding with reluctance.

"I respect you Sergeant but even you must see the folly of this plan. We will be throwing another hostile fleet into the galaxy." Ulrik curses out.

"I know but you've read the same reports from the other Watch-Fortresses. The Xenos across the galaxy are growing more active, and the arrival of the Tyranids and Necrons have tied up Imperial forces elsewhere. This is better than allowing an invasion of the Ravenna Sector." Illium retorts, causing Ulrik to curse loudly before looking away from the Sergeant. The tension slowly defuses, and a small cough turns the attention back to the Inquisitor, Strabo quietly relieved that a fight didn't break out.

"I understand that this might seem like an unsavory plan, and it creates another problem for the Imperium but we must make do with what we have…" The Inquisitor says, and while Strabo quietly agrees with Ulrik's outburst, he can spot a quick flash of emotion across the Inquisitor's stoic face, guilt. Strabo sighs and sets his shoulder, feeling a new weight settle on it.

"You will be deploying in three days time, inserted on Bernelli Secundus via stealth ship. You will be without support for this mission and stealth is of the utmost importance. Should the Fertani realize that Kul'Narth'Vulla was killed by you, it is possible that they will unite behind her death and accelerate their invasion plans. Sergeant Illium, I will allow you to pick your loadouts for this mission but you will have to escort a bomb to either the Fertani First Party headquarters or whilst their leadership is at a rally. The choice is yours but you must plant evidence that this assassination was done by more extreme members of the Holy Path." Garibaldi states before he grimaces. "You will be given Xeno paraphernalia and artifacts to plant in the crime scenes." At that, a few of the marines sneered in disgust, Strabo included. To have to sully their hands with Xeno items was… deplorable. Yet, it was for the better of the Imperium to sully their hands. "After that, you will signal for your extraction and we will bring you back to the Watch-Fortress. Do you have any questions?"

At once, several questions are said, dataslates are closely examined, and Strabo immediately begins to think through appropriate weaponry for the mission. As the room descends into planning, Strabo takes a deep breath, preparing himself for the coming mission. Stealth was what he was best at, and no doubt the Kill-Team would need to rely on him for multiple tasks. Strabo glances up, feeling a pair of eyes on him, finding Ulrik staring at the Mist Shrike. The Space Wolf gives Strabo an intense look, his eyes showing the expectations he had for Strabo. They stare at each for a split second, Strabo giving Ulrik a look of quiet determination. He would not fail the mission, he would not fall behind, and he would not fall, not while the Xenos threaten the Imperium. Ulrik searches Strabo's gaze for a moment longer before giving him one final look that screams one thing.

Do not fail us.

OOC: And there we have it, Of Shrikes and Wolves II. This is more of a set up thing for part 3 but it explains the stakes, explains the Fertani, and mentions the current state of the Deathwatch as we get closer to the 13th Black Crusade, the various alien species in the galaxy getting more active and starting to stretch Imperial forces and the Deathwatch thin. Fun Fact, the places and names in this update are barely disguised named of people, organizations or items IRL. You get bonus points if you figure out what they are. Hope you all enjoy it!

Also, @ThunderOwl I hope this is enough to classify the Fertani as a potential enemy in the Aetelian Sector. If it isn't would you like for me to make a separate post detailing their whole thing?
