Green Sun, Black Shadows (CG/Exalted)

Millions of people are going to die aren't they?
*shrug* People die in the millions all the times. It just takes different amounts of time depending on the circumstances.

That said, tomorrow I will not update and the day after that the same because I will outside most of the day. So you have until Friday to decide on a costume and how to handle Ohgi and co.

That said, I also added a "[] Let the GM decide." for the undecided. But of course I hope to see very well-made ideas instead.

You know, when it comes to Oghi and co we could just not elaborate about who is behind the mask. Let them believe what they want. Or we could claim to be a Britannian who's seen the truth of the empire's corruption and evil and wants to bring it down- which has the benefit of actually being true.

Honestly not saying anything might be the best idea considering our Act of Villany.

Exhibit 32C on why the Usurpation was needed.
the more I read Exalted the more I believe the Usurpation was an stupid idea, it mostly incapacitated Creation original manutence Systems, divided it's creators and only resulted into more guys willing an able to do whatever they wanted with the place on a whin

Edit: tought I may have confused which usurpation you were talking about, maybe we should start using qualifiers

In canon they ask to see what's behind the mask during this meeting, which is understandable. The only reason Lelouch gets away with not showing them is that he leads them on the mission to rescue Suzaku and miraculously not only rescues him but succeeds in escaping after confessing to murdering Clovis on live television. We don't have that here. We need something to impress onto them the fact that we're the only chance they've got at victory.

"I have superpowers, here let me demonstrate, and this is how I convinced Clovis to tear apart his own government and do more damage than the JLF has in seven years." is a suitable alternative.

As far as our Act of Villainy goes, the only reason to ever do it outside of times when such behavior is necessary for your goals is to decrease Limit. Also, if we give them a lie about a secret it should still count as not revealing our secret, so there's plenty of opportunity there. There's probably even more opportunity with having our allies/henchmen do things that further our schemes without any context.

It's a testament to how bad things were that it was even on the table, and a testament to how high the stakes were that it was a good idea.

I'm referring to the time the Dragonblooded and Sidreals backstabbed the Solars and brought about the Shogunate, are you thinking of the Primordial War?

arewe stil talking about the first Usurpation ? because as I recal that on happened because the Incanae where tired of working and wanted to play the Games of Divinity and was enabled be Autochton wanting to give his family the finger for constantly breaking his toys. Let's be honest there can you cite a single treath to Creation who can't be traced directly to the Exalted?
but if we are talking about the second one than I completely agree with you

The Fae, and while Creation is certainly much more imperiled and lessened by the Primordial War it also a place where any human has the chance to rise to heights untold. It's just that given how small that chance is it's a cold comfort to the huddled masses, still at least they don't have a Jotun accidentally ruining their day/continent by flexing.

Aren't the Fae only a problem because the Unconquered Sun and the Incanae are currently more worried with playing the Games of Divinity than actualy protecting creation as was they job ? Also trading an acidental Jotun now and then for hundreds of guys intentionaly messing with things sounds like at best an equal trade

*shrugs* Creation is as it is and the decision to exchange a few dozen inhuman deities for a few hundred all too human overlords has already been made, all that's left to do is pick up the pieces and try not to make things worse.

I've no problem with telling them the truth or part of the truth (for example, explaining we have beyond-human abilities but not their source). It's lying about ourselves and our abilities (claiming to be an escaped Britannian experiment or using LSD to appear Japanese or what have you) that I'm against, due to the potential for future backfiring.

This. Lying is what led to the Black Knights betraying Lelouch in the first place.

Less dishonesty, less chance of someone doing a big reveal and manipulating away our Black Knights.

The complete truth is right out - there is no fucking way Lelouch would tell a bunch of terrorists he doesn't really know that he is Lelouch vi Britannia. It's just not in character, and it would be dumb to do in the first place. Even telling them that we're Lelouch Lamperouge would be out of character (especially since we established only telling Kallen after she'd proven trustworthy)

Part of the truth is insufficient as well. How much they remember and what explanations they come up for it will be controlled by the Arcane Fate. They could easily come to see our abilities as being a pure trick of stage magic the next morning and come to distrust us, because the Arcane Fate didn't have anything else to work with. Not telling them why we have powers can backfire just as much as lying could. That's why it's best to give them a mundane if fantastical reason to explain our powers - it will give the Arcane Fate something to work with instead of leaving it to improvise in an uncontrolled manner.

If you don't want to lie, then you need to come up with a plausible plan for us keeping our identity secret and not having to show what's behind the mask, because powers or no they will ask what's behind the mask and you had better give them a damn good reason to say no. Canon Lelouch did that by doing something we don't have an opportunity to do. So what alternative do you propose? I'm trying to think of a way, but I need more than just "don't lie, it might backfire" to work with.

That's a vast oversimplification. A large combination of circumstances lead to the Black Knights betraying Lelouch. If it was revealed to them that Lelouch was a lost Britannian prince that alone would not have been sufficient to make them turn on him. Slaughtering the Geass cult, children included, was a big part of that. This made their fear of Geass worse, once they learned about that.

The key here isn't to never lie, it's to know when to stop lying and to tell the truth. One of Lelouch's problems in canon is that he never really learned how to trust people until it was too late - even after people had proven to be dedicated followers, he didn't let them in. He continued lying and keeping secrets. But we're in control now, so even if we tell a lie now, it's not like we can't tell people the truth later once they've proven themselves. Having Milly and the rest of the Coven should help Lelouch with his trust issues, as he'll have allies.

I still say calling ourselves some kind of Britannian monster shapeshifter isn't the way to go.

Finding some way to keep our identity secret without blatantly lying would be better.

I tought we were a social focused Exalted ? can't we just talk a bunch of mortals into not caring that we don't show or face trought a liberal aplication of Essence ? by the time that stops being feasible we should have enought of a reputation to make the problem something of the past

Many of those other things stem from the lying and dishonesty. Which comes from being unable to trust people. It's one of the reasons I want to get Suzaku over to our side, so that they can call each other out on their bullshit. They work way too well together, as canon has shown time and time again, and I'm not letting those particular hair-pulling events of canon happen.

At least we have Milly. We can probably use Kallen as a opening point for letting the poor Brits also become Black Knights. Definitely gotta talk to those cultists.

The key here is "some way" needs to actually be something that can work. Thus far I haven't heard much in the way of actual proposals.
We can totally have a more mundane backstory than 'shapeshifting monster'. Shit, we can just use Lulu's actual backstory of being a child in Japan when it was attacked after being more or less abandoned by our parents. Our best friend and the family that was housing us were Japanese, and we fucking hate Britannia for what they've done to the entire world.

We can even add on the 'expairimented' on thing if you'd like.

No, is way too soon to reveal that we are a Britanian. We don't have their trust yet. We can do it later, though, when we have have proved ourselves. Having Kaguya in the Coven will help a lot here too.

One of the themes of Exaulted is that actions have consequences.
