Green Sun, Black Shadows (CG/Exalted)

If you start a cyborg red herring, and then Autochthon comes back from his nap, I will laugh.

Because then everything will be invaded by cyborgs that evolve into metroplex.

Those weren't be-all end-all examples, just illustrations of a few possible ways we could have complications and suspicion thrown at us. But to continue them anyway: even with our claims about the zombies being incurable, someone could claim that there's a cure and we know it and then 'prove' it in some way (mind control Geass that they then cancel, maybe?), and the punchsplode example can be replaced by pretty much anything that should be impossible. Throw in some extra proof to back up the hell claim (a solar using an oath binding, a custom charm that makes your words extra sincere- or just an excellency- and so on), and we've got problems. And so on and so forth for other ways our claims could be made to come back and bite us.

Basically, I think it's risking trouble for no real gain.

That kind of thing is going to be a problem no matter what, though. At some point our Exalted powers are going to be on display and we'll have Exalted enemies, and some of the more blatant stuff we'll either need to explain or hope that the Arcane Fate gets them to believe something plausible. If someone connects our green anima to being Hell powers then they can make the claim we work for Hell regardless of what we say now.

We can use a false face to show we're Japanese, but then later it might be found out we're not. (I also am starting to think it's better if we don't fake being Japanese, because Zero is supposed to be an icon against oppression rather than just a Japanese person fighting for liberation)

So yeah, anyone have any ideas?

I was just planning on having them come to some abandoned building or something in one of the ghettos or something. We've got the Anuhles to back us up and scout around, so it's not like we'd be in much danger.

To be honest, shouldn't we go with L-SD anyway, when making appearances?
The less Zero can be connected to Lelouch, the better.

It requires you to commit motes (can't be regenerated until you stop the Charm), and if you want to change it you have to use the Charm again, and then use the Charm again to become Zero again. Doing it that way isn't really worthwhile - the mask protects our identity so long as it's on.

What about something like this:

I'd like to stick close to the canon costume, personally. Also, that exposes our hair and skin color.

Ok, going to summarize ideas for what to reveal regarding what's behind the mask.

1. Claim we have no true face, show our ability to change forms, and say we're the result of human experimentation by Britannia, with no memories of our past before the experiments. Basically, we're claiming to be a weaponized human and a victim of Britannian experimentation, we just transform as is convenient (though we can't change with great frequency, as it takes a lot of energy to do so), and we're out to end Britannian oppression. We've embraced our faceless nature, as we could be anyone oppressed by Britannia, regardless of race, and so we have become "Zero" to be an icon to stand for justice and freedom from oppression.
Pros
- Would allow us to use our abilities more frequently with the knowledge of our inner circle of subordinates. The Arcane Fate will make the 'plausible but mundane' explanation of our abilities stick.
-- Which would allow us to show how we made the Pureblood conspiracy plot happen, which makes us more impressive.
-- Would also help with out as our other Coven members could use their abilities more openly without raising questions from our inner circle. Specifically our Slayer, who is going to rip off the arms of Knightmares and beat them to death with them - not exactly something a normal human can do.
- Doesn't make our cause racially motivated. Long term this is beneficial, as we won't be constrained to Japan and we do want to recruit dissatisfied Britannians.
- Like all good lies, there is an element of truth, just as the Ebon Dragon likes it. Britannia does have human experimentation programs. They've got both the program with C.C. and the program to breed more Dragonblooded.
Cons
- All the usual problems that come with lying.
- To an extent we need them to keep secrecy about our 'identity', at least for a while.

2. Use Loom-Snarling Deception to be a Japanese person in advance.
Pros
- Easier to gain their trust.
- Harder to display our abilities, unless we want to hybrid this with the cyborg plan.
Cons
- All the usual problems that come with lying.
- Harder to make our cause non-racial.

3. Something else. Be a half-Japanese person like Kallen, be an Ainu (minority ethnicity in Japan, Japanese people have often been somewhat oppressive), have a face covered in scars that makes us unidentifiable. All have some degree of advantage or not. All of them are lies, and have the usual problems that come with lying.

I could seriously use more thoughts on our options. I'm leaning towards writing up a plan for the first, but it's a major decision so I don't want to rush into it without hearing what other people think.

Regarding the costume, I'm starting to think that the canon costume might just be easiest. The Geass symbol on the helmet is different enough that it could just be a random coincident. It might also make people think we're a Geass user, and boy oh boy will they get a surprise when they find out we're not.

I prefer option one. It has more Pros than Cons, plus I like the idea of "Zero" being like he is becaus he has no true identity.

Regarding talking to the terrorists, I came up with an alternative to just disguising ourself as Japanese - we could claim we don't have a face. Just show off our shadow power to change forms, and then claim that we're a victim of Britannia's human experimentation program and we escaped. Any face we would show them would be a facade, as we don't remember our life before Britannia took us. The Arcane Fate would work with us here - it's not magic, we're just a cyborg injected with nanotech or some shit, and any future bullshit from us or any other Exalts on our side is just 'cyborgs'. Hell, we can even semi-truthfully state that the poison capsule they stole contained another test subject. We could even do the thing where we turn into Eric Granfield and show that we fooled Clovis into thinking the Purebloods were responsible for everything. Thoughts?
You are describing Noppera-Bo, a Japanese spirit. Arcane Fate might not cover fictional supernatural beings, otherwise folklore wouldn't exist (if people disbelieve and pretend supernatural doesn't exist, how can there be myths?). This could actually be an interesting way of subverting Arcane Fate.

whatever we decide on, let's steer clear of any obvious Yozi imagery. Zero is going to be a major figure, which means Heaven is going to be watching. If we go around with something like this,

Then there's going to be problems.

Actually... Can someone clarify a point? @Alexander89 I am looking at you. Arcane Fate hides mystical beings and magic and supernatural, creating a masquerade. Yet, Japanese culture exists in a recognizable fashion. Does this mean that Arcane Fate does not work on fictional supernatural beings and people's tendency to believe in what's not there? Ie do people believe in vampires, kami, etc? Does mythology exist in this world?

Because if so, we could totally subvert Arcane Fate by pretending to be Japanese spirits.

Interesting factoid, but I don't think I'd go so far as to claim to be a spirit - that would be less believable for entirely different reasons, I think. Also, there probably ARE such spirits, given that spirits are a thing here in this setting.

And what I'm describing is more a person who just changes their face regularly - Zero has a human face at any given moment, but he doesn't remember his original face due to the trauma of the experiments.

He's clarified somewhat - people can remember if they have enough memories of magic and strong enough will, which is probably where the mythology comes from. As such, some mystical events would get recorded (and likely changed to an extent) over time, resulting in mythology.

The Arcane Fate seems to try to disguise actual magic as something mundane in people's memories, so if we display actual magic and try to use a magical explanation, I don't think it'd work to bypass the Arcane Fate.

What Enjou said above. Arcane Fate doesn't magically destroy all records of magical beings. But most people that read them don't believe it is real. And when they witness firsthand, their minds tend to reject it.

Ok, thanks. So, to clarify, does this mean that people tend to disbelieve purely fictional tales of purely fictional supernatural beings? How could religion arise in this case and have sway over large portions of population? Unless there were very active supernatural beings throughout the history.

But ok, I'm not arguing.

No no, I mean that the people of the modern world tends to disbelief magic and the like. In the past it was different. In the past there were also many supernatural beings that were very active.

To be clear: Arcane Fate doesn't make mortals incapable of believing in the supernatural. It only makes so that when a mortal sees something really magical, like a fire elemental dragon, it's difficult for them to spot said magical (unless very blatant). They believe as long as they see it, but after they no longer see it their minds tend to either forget or come up with plausible, and mundane, alternatives.

Religions arise because something supernatural started it, and so people believed when things like miracles happened...because they couldn't stop seeing the results, and their faith rationalize it.

Thing is, this is 5000 years after the great Contagion. There was no Scarlet Empress. This is not the Age of Sorrows. The Exalts that saw the First Age are all dead. Lacking Solars, Dragonblooded cohesion, Lunars's lack of caring past "I GOT POWA", Underworld sealed and most Gods receiving prayers even when doing nothing because the UC thought he was clever - and Arcane Fate powered-up - things...started going forward by inertia. There was a lack of the kind of incredible personalities that shaped the legends of Creation, those "larger-than-life" heroes that, in the good and in the bad, did great things. And mortals ended up picking up the pieces.

Now though? With Britannia being Britannia and the Jade Prison broken? Solar Exaltations may have greater difficulties finding someone who is above "passable", but there are. The Underworld is waking up, and Hell never forgot.

Lelouch stands at the cusp of an epochal turn in history, with unlimited possibilities unfolding for whoever is bold enough to catch them. Him, and many others.

You aren't in a world that needs saving. You are in a world that need to be woken up and reminded that Myths are real and walk among mortals.
