Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

My guess is that this is about the enemy using Five Poison Cloud.
We know he's good at Yin and Bone Shintai and we know that the cloud-attack was part of his first plan.

So aoe-attack with aggravated sounds like a decent first strike.

Luckily we can soak that, though Murphy would propably cough her lungs up if she were in the area.
This is why normies in supernatural combat is scary. Actually can't remember does Dresden have defenses against gases?

Arc 6 Post 31: Voice of Ruin
Voice of Ruin

3nd of October 2006 A.D.

Out of the knot of twisted chi a thread is teased, easy as breathing. Mine. It feels, warm, like you had just gotten up from a Thanksgiving dinner when all that gravy is still more a comfort than a warning Alas there's no time to revel in the feeling long, Gard's voice carries as much urgency as you have ever heard from her. "Divide and conquer, the foe seeks to separate us from your father and Dresden..."

You regain 2 Essence -> Now at 8/12

"What do you...?" Lieutenant Murphy starts to ask from across the room, lowering her gun about half an inch. The last word swallowed up in swirling tainted Yin, more than blackness more than night, the breath of death and hatred's silent scream pouring from among the broken stone and twisted metal of your self made entrance

Lydia screams in pain as the rune studs in the jacket she had claimed from Katrina flash with sudden silver fire, doom blunted as an arrow by steel, but before such malice even the scions of are not unharmed. As to the Einherjar on your other side he shouts the name of Odin Father of Hosts even as the flesh of his lips, his face everything withers and greys as though mummified alive

Lydya takes 3 Aggravated Damage -> Now at 5/9 Wounds
Einherjar 4 Aggravated Damage -> Now at 3/7

"One step left, two forward," Usum counsels, his voice sharp with the prick of unfamiliar fear though the dark breath had not passsed the protection of your armor.

As the light of your anima pushes forward it leaves a void in the world you can feel though eyes cannot see it. The Wan Xian called it the Step of the Tiger, but for that which they had become it is more properly the White Tiger Corpse.

"Thief, Seed Taker, my master has need of that which you bear..." The withered Akuma whispers in a voice like a death rattle drawn to eternity. Unlike the shadow, stretched and warped until it was a few inches taller than you he is a head shorter, though whether it is the size he was in life or if the seeming of death had made him shrink Yet instead of seeming lesser for his stature the being before you seems more, tough as ancient bones in endless darkness shrouded.

In his right hand he holds deceptive looseness of grip not a katama, but a straight edge jian, the sword of Imperial China, forged of steel as black as the bile that flows from his eyes, the corners of his mouth and the ruin of his nose while in his left hand he holds, to your eyes at least, a tangle defiled fates. It seems you are not the only one with luck on your side.

As its fetid breath disperses, revealing to all the ruin it had wrought the servant of Emma O is not done speaking: "Gravekeeper, this is not your battle, go and be at peace." Chains vibrate, torture tools clatter on the floor twisted trusses groan, every piece of metal answering the malice of that long dead voice.

Lydia coughs, spits a glob of blood on the ground, but she is far from daunted. Looking slightly to the left of there the akuma's face is she answers simply: "You'll be the one who goes in peace old demon."

Skin dry as parchment, white as bone shifts to reveal razor sharp teeth in a perversion of a smile. "Good."

Echoing from the back of the torture chamber you hear Gard begin to chant, a poem of revelation.

How do you fight?
Will of Kakuri known protections
  • Armor of Bone and Shadow (Can Soak Usum's flames)
  • It is invisible to anyone without magical senses (Base DC to notice him would 11; Molly made the DC5 check)
  • Fortune turns in his favor (-1 DC to all his rolls)
  • The Sword cuts more than flesh (Does Aggravated damage)
Gard is currently attempting to strip the invisibility so your allies can actually hit him

OOC: Since I know you guys will ask, the reason you did not see him when you ran in here is that he was literally in the ground with Semblance of the Ebon Dragon. He popped out once you were busy with the shadow and Harry and Michael had gone through, stepped back into material reality slammed the shroud up and then turned around and breathed Aggravated damage all over you and more importantly Lydia)in the hopes of either knocking her out (without the Soak re-roll from her armor she would have taken 6 Damage) or scarring her off. And yes if you had taken knowledge last vote you would have known his plan and thus been able to warn everyone to get out of the way.

That's actually a good question for @DragonParadox . Lydia's zombies are essence-animated puppets. Because Lydia is not an infernal, essence doesn't form a least god or something like that. However, it's still invested in the zombie carcass. Would it be possible for Lydia to use her zombies as ersatz Jade talismans when combined with Rest-Granting Strike. Essentially, invest essence (1 point) into a zombie to make it, then destroy the zombie with Rest-Grating Strike to at least gain that one mote back. This way she doesn't get infinite motes, but does get to extend her mote pool with prep.

Also, how does MMP interact with both Murder is Meat and Rest Granting Strike? If Lydia squishes a demonic maggot, does she get 3 essence motes? If we eat it live (or simply kill it), do we get 2 motes?

There would be some loss in transfer and since Exaltation do not work in less than 1 mote increments. Still if she could somehow invest 2 Essence into something she would get 1 back allowing for limited storage.

So offhand when Halloween becomes relevant dp is halloweens immortals can be killed stuff active for things that are not part of the Dresden files lore?

Weren't einherjar not much stronger than real humans physically in canon? Like definitely freakishly strong for humans but still humans from an outside persoective?

Before anyone go and says that we really should have taken knowledge or any other things like that:

We couldn't know it would do that, we would have less essence to use, and it was a long term choice with consequences later in addition to right now.

Is it time to trigger our Shintai?

It's this part's final boss, so as long as we get enough time for it, yes, it does also removes all our current wounds, making it an even better idea.

I mean I thought of it not like knowing enemy ideas while fighting them couldn't have practical info for this moment. I just don't care nearly as much as essence regen long term.

We hardy enough to survive a rocket launcher hit while in shintai yet? I say we don't have enough soak. :p

P.S. we should get a rocket launcher no launchers.

(without the Soak re-roll from her armor she would have taken 6 Damage)
Wow, it rolled 6 damage on 6 damage dice? I guess the luck magic would reduce it to DC5 instead of 6, but that's still a really lucky roll from what I read of the power.

Ah well, time to go Shintai and carve this thing apart. Should we send Lydia to try and force open a Way for Dad and Harry, or just have her help us out here? She's injured enough to be taking some pretty nasty penalties, so it might be best to put her on the safer task.

Edit: Wait, I got it mixed up. She's only got a -1 injury penalty right now. So she's better off than the Einherjar that got hit.

Five Poison Cloud deals levels of damage, not dice.

It is absolutly guaranteed to cripple affected mortals.

[X] Plan Plan
-[X] Ask the Einherjer to cover you and Lydja.
-[X] Transform into your Shintai.
-[X] Activate Melee Excellency
-[X] This is a duel. Let the Einherjer lock down the area.
-[X] Once she is feeling better, have Lidia open the gate and get Harry and your Dad out.
[X] -STUNT- You look the Akuma in thr eye and raise your sword, pointing it at him. You thought of what to say and only one line comes to mind. "There can be only One." You say.

??? No? Here's a copy paste I took from the link:

• • • • Five Poison Cloud
The vampire can exhale a breath or cloud of concentrated Yin. This cloud manifests as a mass of freezing black vapor. The cloud seethes with the destructive energies of raw Yin; within the cloud, metal corrodes, flesh rots and plants wither and die.
System: The vampire spends two points of Yin. The cloud swells to fill an area 10 feet by 10 feet. Everyone within the cloud, except the wielder of the power, suffers six dice of aggravated damage.

Only change I made was to bold and underline the word dice. And this is the link the QM used in the update. It's pretty clear what the mechanics are?

Oh, I must have missread that.

Then I guess he got lucky on the damage-roll.

We've very lucky this is a weak Greater Akuma, otherwise it could have used Yin Nihilus that does Yin Virtue levels of damage (which could easily be ten levels) plus one per extra Yin Chi spent.
