I am wondering if attacking passers by on the street is something he does out of free will, as much as he has it in his state, or something he does at his Master's behest.

I do not quite understand the point of it, and would be interested to see the Church's reaction to it. Shouldn't there be a prize on his Master's head for the performance he gave in the middle of the city and in front of witnesses?
