You wake up in the morning a little sore from last nights training, but ready to move nonetheless. Gramps had spent most of the night directing you to sprint around the village, even going so far to zap you whenever you started to slow down. During that time you'd tried to get close to Flamemon several times, wanting to tell the taller rookie that what happened to you that day wasn't his fault. However he'd managed to keep his distance from you the entire time, leaving you to go to bed that night defeated.
After shaking your head to get rid of the depressing memory you struggle up out of your covers and slowly begin to pad your way towards the huts exit. You pass by Lunamon on the way out and are treated to the sound of the small digimon muttering sweet nothings in her sleep.
"Mmm. Too smol. Mo tasties pwease"
Her words being a tiny smile to your face and you can't help but think back to when she'd hatched a few weeks ago. Aside from Gramps you'd been the only mon present for her birth and while you hadn't quite evolved into a rookie by that point in time, the villages caretaker had entrusted you to help the then Yukimi Botamon get her bearings. Though admittedly it hadn't exactly been that simple given your tendency to close your eyes and pretend whatever new sight was there didn't exist. At first she'd found that funny and had tried to get you to do it as often as she could, but eventually that had evolved to her trying to spend time with you. When you had finally digivolved to Drimogemon, the choice of her caretaker had been obvious.
While it's true that you haven't been able to spend as much time with her lately considering everything that's been going, the recent violence has only increased your resolve to stop her from being hurt. As you exit the hut and step into the daylight, you find yourself immensely glad to have agreed to her request. If something dangerous happens to the village you will do your very best to protect her. So after taking a deep breath, you close your eyes and try to ready yourself for the day to come.
Not more than a minute later Gramps hops down beside you, and asks how you're holding up. You think of yesterdays events and between the Goblimon injuring you plus Flamemon's recent attitude, your natural response is to simply scurry back to your hut, then hide under your covers. However you (barely) manage to resist doing then and instead begin lying. Once you've assured the old digimon that you're fine, he informs you of what he has in store for this mornings activities.
After buying you breakfast from Sorcerymon, Gramps wakes Auger up and then brings him to meet you out in front of the huts. The two of you square off against each other (much to your internal discontent) and under Gramps watchful eye, the sparring begins.
It doesn't prove to be a particularly surprising or intense match, mostly consisting of you and Auger standing there and clawing at each other. You prove to be better at block and defending attacks than the older digimon, but Augers hardy carapace proves all but impenetrable to your swipes. He actually uses this to his advantage, aiming to trade attacks with you instead of a normal exchange. While you do manage to hit hard enough to leave a few shallow marks it becomes clear that in order to actually damage it you'd need to try and drill into him, however that is simply not something you're willing to do, especially against a companion like Auger. In turn you suspect that Auger is likewise holding back somewhat, as his individual hits don't actually seem to hurt all that much and he doesn't use his strongest attack even a single time. The spar ends with you eventually being overwhelmed by his attacks and collapsing to the ground.
The Armadillomon is initially very alarmed by your defeat, but Gramps quickly manages to calm him down. After that he enlists a rather grumpy Sorcerymon for a quick heal of your injuries, then begins explaining what he wants the two of you to work on until lunch is ready.
When he brings up an emergency escape tunnel, you're more than a little worried about what it might mean for the village. However the scarred Elecmon explains that no, there isn't an imminent attack on the village, but rather he wants it as a "Last Resort" in case the force of Goblimon manage to discover your home and he can't fully defend it. He specifies for the two of you to dig it behind the shelters, then with a final nod of approval heads off.
Auger lets you take the lead on this project since it doesn't involve any treasure and simply lets you pick a spot before tiredly promising to be right behind you. So after picking a good spot behind the huts, you rev up your drill and begin digging down. In the following minutes all of your fears, worries and wants slowly fade away. Replacing them is the simple act of drilling through the earth, as you entrance yourself in the task of digging the tunnel. After the many recent events you find yourself appreciating the act more than ever, it's something that you actually like. All the training, the fighting you'd trade it all just to continue doing this.
The next thing you know the surface is being broken and you're emerging a few dozen meters away from the village walls, directly ripping up some shrubbery in the process. By now going through the dirt like this is not a particularly tiring task and you haven't so much as sweat from the effort. From there it's a simple matter of waiting until Auger finishes winding the tunnel and climbs out after you. With the tunnel complete, the two of you are able to take a simple break resting until the time comes for Gramps to call out lunch. Since you haven't been able to speak all that much with Auger recently, this proves to be the perfect time to try and get to know him a little better.
Right Verge! Time to do this! J-just don't mess it up!
"H-hey Auger?"
"Mmm?" The large rookies slowly shifts his position laying down to look at you. "Uh..... yeah?"
"H-how are you doing?"
"Alright"
"Tha-that fight was something. Well you-Ah, I mean. You're strong and tough and brave and like.... not a coward" Your head hangs down.
He's l-like me but... better.
"Uh.... Yeah, true" Auger slowly nods, "Though. Mmm, I'm jealous"
What?
"Je-jealous?" you blink in surprise, shame fading as you tilt you head in confusion.
"Yeah you uh... dig better" Auger explains, looking down at his claws. "Your drills can get treasure easier. I uh... I like it, could get more if I had them" Auger slowly shakes his head left, then right. "Digging is fun"
Y-yeah it is. I-I like it too.
"Getting treasure is uh.... well it becomes mine. I can use it. Buy stuff, you know? Can sleep better or eat or... Train" The Armamdillomon shudders for a moment. "Don't know which is better, getting it or, mmm having it. I have, a lot of it" Auger steps out from his imaginings and looks to you once again. "What do you, think? Should I uh, ah. After the Goblimon would it be better to, like be comfortable with my treasure or uh, get as much as I can?"
Initially you're unsure of how to answer that, but after a few moments of thinking:
=== Choose One:
[] You recommend that Auger should take it easy after the whole Goblimon thing is over. If he has a lot like he says then there's little point in him getting more.
[] You tell Auger that it would be best if he kept trying to get treasure, after all that helps the others get treasure too.

Authors Note: Auger is a bit of an odd digimon. Trying to write him is... Interesting.
Edit: Will note that Agility is the closest stat to a Talent raise. It should happen soon if this keeps up.
