Canon Omake: Sliding By Evolution
Sliding By Evolution

Verge remained silent as he sat absolutely still, deep in meditation in one of Bulwark's many training areas. The only sound he heard was the faint trickle of breath that pushed against the hairs of his chin, as he examined his spiritual presence. He felt it change somewhat as his body changed with it, sliding down from GrappLeomon to Gryzmon.

His large frame shifted, widening to a massive size as his lustrous mane merged back into his fur. His suit of light armour shifted down into a mere pair of shoulder pauldrons and gauntlets. His shoulders sloped inwards as his back feet lengthened to support a more quadruped form of locomotion.

The Crescent moon that lay atop his bandana instead morphed onto his forehead protector. And his snout lengthened from a leonine to a more ursine shape.

Within moments, the GrapLeomon was gone, replaced by an equally large Gryzmon. Verge's eyes reopened as he stretched his shifted muscles

"Hrm, occasionally practicing with this form would be beneficial." He noted. Keeping his skills sharp in every form he could comfortably access was a good way to ensure he was never caught off guard should he be attacked while slid down, or should the unthinkable happen and he be forcibly de-evolved.

Now, it was time to get down to business. The book on slide evolution he'd picked up had given a simple piece of advice on how to increase mastery of the art. Once you have achieved your next form, try and refamiliarise yourself with the old one so you are still in sync.

"Putting myself through my usual regime as a Gryzmon should serve as a test to determine what needs to be changed." He spoke to himself. As he had the necessary weights prepared for his intense workout, he moved to begin his routine immediately.

As he placed his restriction spirals on, he began to notice a notable strain the more he put on, far more than when he was an Ultimate.

"Hmm, stronger than I had anticipa-"

BAM!!!

He turned to stare at the interruption, guard up and ready for a fight as the metallic door designed to handle shots from Rizegreymon shot off its hinges right in front of him. A familiar blonde haired Black WarGrowlmon bursting his way in as he grinned with excitement.

"Hey Vee, let's fight!" Thresh yelled, before pausing as he took a look at his brother's current state of form.

"... Wow, when did bear-you get so fat?" Thresh asked, a large pendulum blade pressed against his now ursine brothers head.

"I did not 'get fat' Thresh, it's muscle, we've discussed this before." The elder brother clarified, shaking his head to remove his brother's bladed appendage from it.

"So yous practicing slidey digivolution then? You think you're gonna needs it for somethin'?" The Black Wargrowlmon asked, an eyebrow raised. Slide digivolution was useful; he used it sometimes too, but training to get better at it seemed kind of wasteful to him.

"I am familiarizing myself with it to improve my connection between forms, in case I am ever attacked while slid down or forcibly de-digivolved from injury." He clarified. Combat while trying to remain in disguise or out of the public eye was a real concern after all.

"Oh, that does sounds like a good idea. If you're plannin' to go out all hidden n'stuff." His younger brother said, taking a seat on the floor next to him. All while helping himself to the rations he had set for today's training…

"... Those are mi-Nevermind" The purple furred digimon gave up, already seeing Thresh tearing through his ration bars.

The honey ones too…

Shaking his head, the Gryzmon prepared himself for his usual martial arts katas, his hind leg muscles tensed and he felt his core tighten. The weight from his training spirals was immense but nothing his Grappleomon form wouldn't be able to push through.

Verge closed his eyes as he pushed himself up and flipped through the air. His thick fur rustled from the force as his large body went through the motions of a backflip.

He managed one, then two, then three-

The floor rose up to meet him as he smacked his face on it, the extra weight relative to his strength finally taking its toll. Landing directly on his nose, he gently rubbed the more sensitive snout as it slightly stung from the impact. His weakened ability to take hits picking an annoying time to express itself.

Thresh looked at him from across the room, busting a gut as he paused from eating his rations.

"Gyuhuhuhu!!!" The BlackWargrowlmon guffawed, pointing his arm at his bro "Yous really messed up there Vee!" He continued to laugh as Verge rolled his eyes. How to shut him up…

"I'd like to see you do better." He spoke dryly, the taunt doing exactly what it was supposed to as Thresh immediately got up to respond.

"Oh yeahs, fine!" He declared, his cybernetics retreating into him and his bladed arms returning to their more dactyl form as his body shrunk into the much smaller and slimmer form of BlackGrowlmon.

"Just watch!" The twenty foot growlmon stated, before leaping through the air.

He managed three jumps easily enough as he flipped back down onto his feet, his much lankier form assisting with in-air stability.

"That… was not a challenge." Verge commented mildly, looking down at his little brother looking enormously smug as he puffed his chest up, obviously well pleased with his performance.

"Whys not?!" Thresh yelled back

"Your champion form is much better built for acrobatics than either my current form, or your Ultimate form is." Verge noted, pointing at the BlackGrowlmons' well toned, yet slim physique.

The Virus type looked over his slim(by comparison) shape as it finally occurred to him, that yes, it was easier to backflip in this form than it would have been in his stronger one. Especially since he'd have had a massive jetpack to throw him off balance.

"... Oh." The Dark Dragon digimon responded somewhat embarrassed and a little chagrined he hadn't thought of it first.

"What you need is an actual challenge" The elder brother said, before taking out some weights as he strapped them around his own arms and legs.

Gesturing at a large barbell sitting across the other side of the room, it looked to be roughly half the size of either digimon.

"Try lifting it." He suggested, heading off to do his own training as he heard the sounds of grunts and struggles behind him.

'He should be occupied by that for quite some time.' Verge thought, knowing his younger brother was just as stubborn as he was when he put his mind to something.

Thresh, clearly not used to lifting such heavy weights as a BlackGrowlmon, was trying mightily, but failing to lift it even a few inches off of the ground. Just as planned, the weight he'd pointed at was heavy enough that even a slid down Ultimate should have great difficulties lifting it.

Shaking his head, Verge returned to his own training. Steadily rising onto two feet as he took a basic stance, his paws slowly moved back and forth as he practiced, moving his body in familiar motions that he hoped would translate over from a fully bipedal body, into one that had merely been forced into such a shape.

Shifting through basic katas for ten minutes or so, listening to his brother grunt and struggle to drag the barbell up. Eventually, with a mighty scraping noise his little brother finally managed to lift it just barely off the ground. He turned and watched as Thresh smirked even though he was clearly still in distress, his arms shaking and his chest heaving.

Despite the sight being rather comical, Verge felt inspired. If Thresh could manage something as seemingly impossible as lifting such a weight while slid down, he could manage at least one full set of katas without failure!
He prepared himself to perform a spinning roundhouse kick, his leg muscles tensing and his arms moving to provide balance.

He breathed out, and leapt, his body sailing through the air as he slammed against one of the training dummies in the room, leaving a deep gouge in it, a success!

However, much like last time, the Brutal Brawler was unfortunately not able to stick the landing. One toe was out of position, and he felt his whole body go off balance as he tried to compensate using instincts born from time spent in a larger and much differently shaped body.

The champion level digimon fell onto his back as he heard laughter behind him.

"Gyuhuhuhu! *CRUNCH!!!* "OWWWWW!!!" He heard the sound of metal meeting flesh and bone as his brother screamed in pain. Verge rose up to catch the (slightly) amusing sight of his brother holding onto his swollen foot yelping in pain as he bounced around like an ansty Kangarumon.

"Always pay attention to your tasks while training Thresh." He chided lightly, a hint of amusement in his voice as his brother muttered angrily in between the hissing in pain.

Deciding to let the soreness in his foot be a better mentor to his brother this time, Verge returned once more to his schedule.

Spending what felt like hours slowly pushing his body through routines both familiar and unfamiliar to this old body of his. The gravity and restraining weights helped him as he felt himself slowly become more accustomed to training as he would in his Ultimate form in his Champion form.

With a flick of his foot he leaped through the air like an acrobat, landing gracefully this time as he went through the more advanced katas, now able to successfully flip, kick and land properly.

All within reach of the training dummy that sat in the middle of the field, just as he swung his right claw its way.

Withins seconds, Corrosive Air based Data formed on top of his gargantuan paw, thrusting towards its target as three lengthy claws worth of spiritual energy tore through its metallic structure, breaking in minutes as the spiritual attack corroded what remained of the training dummy he'd just obliterated.

The walls were hit with its remnants, as three small cuts burned itself into its hard metal.

Not bad, considering it was almost ten meters away from his target…

Hearing a grunt behind him, Verge paused in admiration of his handiwork, turning around to see his brother finally lifting the Barbell up above his head, his arms shaking as sweat poured off his forehead, but a proud grin stretched across his face as he looked at Verge.

"I tolds you Vee!" He said with a grin, dropping it down, thankfully missing his own foot this time.

… But still leaving a dent in the floor as it nearly bent from impact. Verge gave his brother a deadpan look as the virus type looked away with a mildly embarrassed blush. He still had a long way to go.

But at least now he could manage a larger weight in his Champion form, while performing more powerful techniques in the process. Soon he may even be able to take on opponents of near equal strength as a Gryzmon! But that was for later, for now, he needed to make sure he had perfected his katas and techniques in this form once more.

Authors Notes: Well, this took like 3 days too make, big shout out to @Annatar For helping me make this. Wouldn't have even been finished if not for him. Hope the folks back home found this bit of family bonding hilarious.

There's nothing to worry about there, Sparks isn't going to make any attempt to be merciful. The extraction is literally as simple as deleting her inside his Book's pocket dimension so Agnimon's digicore can reform on the tree there.
Wait a minute, does that mean Repulsa is going to reincarnate on that tree aswell? (And also any additional digimon that Repulsa may have done the same thing to as she did to Agnimon)

Honestly, at the very least her reincarnation would probably be kept in the bulwark.
Her next life is likely to have mega-level potential even without the spirits, and a mega even a trash one is not something
that leopardmon is likely to waste.
Especially considering that as a fresh reincarnate he can mold her as he wishes.

And get her some training so she doesn't waste it like her original self did.

Not sure on that one, the only reason she could hit mega this life is cause of the spirits' doing, On her own she does not have the potential and considering losing the spirits causes a mon to revert back to the power they got before equipping them( I do wonder where the power they accumulated whilst wearing them goes) I don't think she'll be keeping their potential either.

Her getting Agnimon's core and loading it was a special case. So, just her and Agnimon.
Possibly but so long as she doesn't have any memories from her past it's not really an issue.
Trust me, Verge has left enough of an impression this fight to carry over to her next life.
I can see it now!

Repulsa: Daddy Verge I had a nightmare please let me sleep in your room…

Verge: I am having one right now and I can't wake up…
Nah, not gonna happen because Sparks' is gonna play that role

Not quite how it works. Handling the greater spirit for so long will leave an affect on her, but so far as reincarnation potential goes, it mainly comes from her base form. And Repulsa at best had around Sparks pre-stacking evolution buffs and splicing potential. Just ya know, for the LadyDevimon line, which has extended caps and is a potent form by itself.

So her reincarnation is just always gonna be terrified of Verg?
Definitely as a young mon. Like, fainting levels of fear. Past that... we'll have to see.

@radioxaxa

Rewards for your Omake:
  • Verge's slide evolution skills increases by 40 points.
  • Verge's Martial Arts & General Fighting increase by 30 points each
  • Thresh gets better at his as well
  • Thresh get his final buff, this time to fortitude.
===Changes to Verge's Sheet:

GrappLeomon: Wrath Mode:
Mode change made possible through maximized Wrath corruption, and observing Vajramon's Burst Mode. Temporarily increases Verge's height by 5 feet, increases the sizes of his claws and fangs, and alights his turbines with the Dark Flames of fury. Mechanically serves to increase Verge's Strength, Agility and Special stats by 35% each. Comes at a high cost to both Stamina and Spirit, and afterwards leaves Verge exhausted for several hours, or one hour's meditation.

Technqiues:
Void-Step: Uses spirit to create a *platform* under one's limb to step off of.
Internal Propulsion: The process of manipulating one's inner spirit to provide thrust, and therefore flight.
Satori: Reads the opponent's spirit to anticipate their attacks.
Gilgamesh Slicer: Technique Of The Wind's Legendary Warrior: Forms an enormous set of wind blades, which are then thrown with enough force to split the sky.

So now that Verge's side has both the spirits of wind, do you think our lady friend Ardat and mistress of the winds might get a offer of both?

Since doing that would be a neat way to prevent her going Demon Lord with her next Evo. An would likely be a form she would enjoy considering her love of all things wind magic.

Well we don't tend to hate mon based on their other lives so we're probably just gonna remain neutral to her. Looks like it'll be up to Sparks to get her to stop being scared of Verg.

Also you gonna do those skills gains when the daily spars are finished?

Already asked that and the answer was no.

They'll be update just before Verge's fight with Thresh.

Ardat would refuse. Partially because those forms are scandalosuly underdressed (Scratch raised a Lady thank you very much!) and because her base potential is stronger than the wind spirits.
That sounds sorta unhealthy. Haven't been keeping up with the thread lately, but i hope that any chance that Verge might go Daemon on evolution has been ruled out?
There's no chance of that fortunately. Good thing Verge didn't max out sloth corruption tho, else he'd be a shoe in for Belphemon.

Pit still might hit Daemon if something bad happens to him though so that's a worry.

Eh, Pits potential evolution is accounted for, but i don't think the server as it is could survive Two Daemons engaging in Jolly Cooperation, while one of them engages in RomCom shenanigans with the local Lillithmon.

Demon Lords getting along with each other is a big nope.
