I bet Agility, because of how fast the dang thing is.

And because no one would expect it.
Unfortunately that's a wrong guess. That attack's speed was not a consequence of the agility stat.
It could also be Endurance.

Rocks are very good at remaining in place for a long time.
That'd be Gogmamon's 3rd highest.

His highest stat is Strength, clocking in at 120,000. Higher than that of PileVolcamon or even NotLucemon.

MetalEtemon is stronger than that, but he held back in his fight against Verge.

If I remember to, I'll be sure ti post Gogmamon's full stats at the end of tonight's update.

Geez that's absurd for an Ultimate!

Not how we should go about fighting, but Verge can briefly close that gap by a substantial margin when he's fully buffed up with techniques and spells, right?
Sure but he doesn't need to.

We don't need to show our hand here anymore than we're good at h2h skill and have AP skills. We want to keep the full extent of his power under wraps

With Muscle Charge (Which at this point Verge can turn on at will) Verge has basically 93,000 Str. And he can get an additional 20K strength from spells Putting him at a temporary 113,000 strength for 3-5 seconds.

Still below Gogmamon, but only by a bit.

28th Of Wood: Grand Spirit Tournament First Match *Gogmamon* Part 1
[] Fight Defensively.
[] Battle plan: Git Gud
-[] Focus completely on defense until you become familiar with your opponents movements and techniques. Heal as needed. And only boost with magic if necessary
-[] Slowly start throwing out counters right after his attacks with techniques like eraser claw that posses armor piercing qualities
-[] after wearing your opponent down with repeated armor piercing techniques strike the weakened spot with The King of fists to end the fight decisively.

===

Gogmamon's crystalline body twitches, arms and legs simultaneously thrusting to throw its colossal mass forward. Even your well trained eyes fail to see more than a blur as it crosses the distance in an instant.

However… you don't need to see it coming.

The Ultimate with a Mega's power swings-

-only for its column of a forearm to hit the empty air overhead while your Vortex Kick smashes into its face.

The impact sends painful shocks running down your leg, whilst Gogmamon remains unphased; the full on counter having barely managed to dent its rocky features.

After a barely noticeable delay, the Ore digimon tenses up then reverses course with a crushing backhand. You rise up into the blow, crossed arms intercepting the long limb halfway and pushing the entire mon into a half spin. The very air around you swirls and rumbles, a storm momentarily blossoming into life.

There's little intent behind each sluggish blow, only a playful sense of malice before each action. Whatever is responsible for Gogmamon's actions, they're not taking you seriously.

Your opponent's shoulder lowers, its feet shift sending ripples through the cavern floor-

-and you sidestep the tackle before running a set of claws down the Ore digimon's back. A move produces an equally pitiful amount of damage to your last attack.

A matter of no consequence, you're merely testing its defenses.

Merely swaying back is more than enough to avoid the following haymaker. Without the aid of its arms for propulsion, the foe's combat speed proves significantly less impressive. That dash attack was more a consequence of your opponent's raw power rather than his agility.

Between that and its sloppy technique, you can see everything it's about to do. The only problem is-

You step in again, head tilted aside to avoid a painfully telegraphed punch, then land an uppercut straight to the crystalline digimon's jaw. Your golden knuckle spikes hit with enough force to level a hill, yet bounce harmlessly off Gogmamon's chin.

-your current blows can't even make him flinch.

I can see how he defeated Gokuwamon. Outlasting a more skilled opponent to find victory… unfortunate that such a tactic will not work here.

At the current rate it will take you hours of fighting before enough damage is dealt to end the bout. Which means it's about time for you to start ramping up.

Still grinning you backflip over a sweeping low blow and release a Jūoudaken, towards those shining green eye sockets. Your enemy almost panickedly raises one arm up to block the attack, confirming your suspicions. It most definitely needs eyesight.

Next up…

Gogmamon lunges as you come down, arms splayed out wide. It's Rookie's play to catch the lunging form and throw it over your shoulder.

The impact of its body craters the cavern floor, adding one more earthquake to the mix as you take advantage of the foe's new positioning.

Wind flares to life around your claws, not the extended blades of Gale Claw, but short sheathes of lilac air. However you can do better, much better. In an instant the manifested wind of Desire are forced to swirl around and around your claws. Just like a series of drills.

Thank you for the assistance in training Lady Ardat.

"Screw Claw!" This time your swipe rends shallow furrows through Gogmamon's chest, the corrosive, rapidly spinning wind constructs proving capable of damaging its rocky form. The Ultimate goes still for a long moment, its shock giving you enough time to land another three more consecutive swipes.

Its left hand presses against the rumbling cavern stone.

A quick sidestep avoids the rock-monster's rising uppercut, the *technique's* air-pressure tugging painfully at your fur. Pain that is ignored as your silver claws criss cross its side. Only minor damage, but now you're doing in minutes what would have taken hours.

Your opponent becomes more aggressive, the lazily playful aspect vanishing as it rounds on you with a furious combination of clotheslines, shoves and haymakers.

It's disappointing really.

Turbines roaring you dance through the unending barrage, countering every move with your own and leaving trails of corrosive power all across the Ore digimon's body.

Finally Gogmamon lifts its titanic arms up for a final slam, aiming to crush you with its most powerful attack. Naturally you take this time to leave a last cross mark across its chest before leaping back-

*Kaboom*

The explosion as Gogmamon's fists come down catches you off guard. For a single second the entire cavern is filled with a wave intense light and heat, throwing you back a good dozen meters more than expected.

Through the smoke and dust a third power emerges from within the mindless digimon, a malevolent, slow energy you'd never mistake for anything else. It would be impossible to forget what it felt like to be on the wrong end of Astamon's aura.

The dark Power of Sloth actively pulsates through your opponent, sluggishly wiping free the influence of Ardat's power. And as the powdered rock settles you're greeted to the sight of Gogmamon's purged wounds being slowly filled by a blue crystalline material.

"That's Friggen' bullshit!" And that would be Sparks… you're not sure how you're able to hear him from a pocket dimension, but that's not something you can afford to contemplate right now.

"Zehaha…" You can't help but begin to chuckle at the absurdity of this match. The suspicions at the back of your mind had been confirmed Astamon, a Demon Lord had personally imbued your opponent with sinful strength along with whatever else was required to give a mere Ultimate this level of strength.

Spirits below, Astamon must have been desperate to force you out of the tournament Verge. Hrm, and that explosion from his attack…

Despite the unfairness, you find yourself grinning harder than ever as Gogmamon goes back on the offensive. This time… this time you don't make any attempt to dodge whatsoever.

I see, so what then if the Gloaming empowered a digimon specifically to defeat me?

A Shield Hardens:

And as the punch with enough force to level a mountain closes in… you simply reach up and catch it in both hands.

I will still claim victory.

===AN: Here's the snippet for tonight. UndeadFrog was right on the money with his guess. And as for why Verge is so confident in winning? Hehehe, he's been holding back a fair bit himself.

The downside of being evil and lax hiring standards... it's really easy to just create the hero of your downfall. I love it so much lol.

Ya know other than knocking out Verge early, making sure Repulsa looses in a respectable way to a strong enemywould be the other way to make sure that the two never end up in the arena vs each other were he'd be free to humiliate her.

Than again Verge ma was confident he'd get to face her in round 3.

..... Why I do I have feeling the Repulsa's opponents may or may not end up being bellow her general weight class?

I'm enjoying this twist, it's doing a good job of letting. verge show off the results of his training montage while raising the stakes. It's the sort of fight that has me really curious about other POVs of it. Like, was Astamon aware of Verge's tendency to channel Lust, or is this going to be something new for him as he feels it run into his own Sin?

Looks like overdosing on Sloth makes you basically a mindless drone. Go figure. Though I do wonder if Astamon is puppeting Gogmamon like he's an RC car or if what we're seeing is fully what happens when you mainline Sloth too hard.

By my understanding, it's probably Astamon quite literally using him as a Proxy Fighter. not unlike Marik in Yugioh.
Body's all Gogmamon, but the Will and Consciousness driving it? 100% Astamon.

It might be Repulsa then. That slow catty behavior coupled with panicked aggression when fighting an opponent better than her seems exactly how she would react. Plus it gives her an opportunity to test out measure before we fight her so she can plan around our abilities for the fight.

I doubt she can pilot a puppet even if someone else made it. Especially one FAAR stronger than her.

This is likely a feral beatstick

I can confirm that Astamon is NOT the one fighting Verge through Gogmamon.

If it was him, then battle would have been over by now.
Yeah, the whole point is this thing has Mega stats but mediocre skills. Whoever's doing this is not at all used to actual peer fights.

I'm wondering about the cost is took to boost this guy. Like why hasn't Astamon been sin empowering more mon and giving them whatever else his guy has had.
It's probably not negligible, like the whole implication is that Astamon is taking an interest in knocking Verge specifically out of the tournament… probably because he seems like something of a ringer and Verge probably has the blame for quite a few dead gloaming lords lain at his feet (3 IIRC). For all we know, Astamon pushed this plan forward on the spot when he saw Repulsa getting bullied by Verge and decided his plans couldn't afford the Brawler getting his hands on Repulsa- it's too early to say.

Now, Thresh is at least strong enough to keep the tournament from being a sure thing, but I'm pretty sure Verge has gotten more publicity as the Brutal Brawler.

28th Of Wood: Grand Spirit Tournament First Match *Gogmamon* Part 2

For the first time real emotion flits through the shining eyes of your opponent. A pure, striking sense of bafflement as the mineral digimon stares at its unmoving hand. Stopping its attack dead cold like that should have been impossible.

And indeed it would have been, had you not mastered a certain technique.

Mantra Chant, a move primarily used by Andiramon for offensive striking, has become so much more. Instead of just a mere arm or a leg, you've managed to harden your entire body all at once. And Gogmamon's approach relying on pure strength is worthless against a mon that's both tougher and heavier than itself.

The mineral digimon shoves forward against your grip, trusting its superior brawn to win out in the end.

Zeha, foolishness.

Not only do you hold fast against the pressure, with a grunt of exertion you shove his arm back.

Your foe's strength may be greater as a whole, however in a struggle of its one arm against your entire body? The winner is obvious.

Gogmamon stumbles back, struggling to regain its balance even as you step in. The swirling wind falls away from your left hand, as instead the silver blades are set to oscillate.

"Eraser Claw!" The fiercely vibrating claws cleave upwards, gouging a small handful of crystal from the ore digimon's chest. A minor wound in truth, but even that is enough to give the golem pause.

Cyberdramon's move does more than simply shake your hand at high speeds. Their species' unique technique disrupts the very bonds between bytes of data, bypassing a large portion of a target's defense.

In other words… Eraser Claw is the very worst matchup for an opponent relying solely on its innate toughness.

Seeming to realize that fact Gogmamon goes on the retreat, throwing a desperate jerky swipe to try and force you off. An attack you effortlessly duck before hitting him again… then a third time, then a fourth. Bits and pieces of Gogmamon's crystal carapace rain across the cavern floor, chipped away at a far faster rate than can be replaced.

You feel your turbines redouble their speed, fighting spirit rising with every blow struck. It's only a matter of time before you tear away enough of him to-

The sudden change in Gogmamon's stance gives you pause, which is the only thing that stops you from running chin-first into the mineral digimon's right straight. Instead the compact punch stops mere millimeters away from your face, the wind pressure alone enough to throw your mane backwards.

Your opponent plants his stubby legs, arms closing into a tight guard. Rudimentary, but effective given the sheer size of its arms. Clearly, whatever intelligence is in control is changing tactics now that you've proven its initial strategy to be a failure.

Instead of full bodied haymakers, the Ultimate lashes out with a series of tightly controlled jabs, keeping you at a distance and leaving no opportunity for another full force counter. Avoiding the colossal fists proves easy enough (its form is still painfully predictable) however closing in to attack is another matter entirely. With arms longer and thicker than even your legs, getting in before the guard is raised proves difficult.

It's attempting to stall me while it heals. A clever tactic.

How unfortunate for it that you've already adapted to this new strategy.

As Gogmamon advances with a short hook, you duck onto all fours and pounce. Highland Fang carries you towards, and then past his left leg. And while your teeth don't manage to do more than scratch his armor, your claws rip free a chuck of ore and leave a festering wound on its knee.

Not to be deterred, your rocky foe pivots in place and throws out another heavy jab-

-that's intercepted halfway by a swipe of your claws, throwing the punch wide. A simple sway is enough to avoid the following cross, before you close in and activate Mantra Chant a second time.

Screw Claw drills into Gogmamon's partially regenerated torso, only this time carrying twice the weight behind it. Instead of piercing mere centimeters, your hand sinks in until the palm meets crystal.

The scene from only seconds ago replays as you once again force the mineral digimon backwards. Your opponent's guard is forced open, and step by step, piece by piece, you begin to tear it apart.

Every rending strike is ever so slightly faster than the last, every so slightly more powerful as your fighting spirit nears its peak. Living whirlwinds erupt from your turbines, lending every targeted swipe a corrosive touch.

Finally Gogmamon raises both arms skyward, forgoing the useless blocking for another explosive smash. Desperation pushing it to try and create some distance. Just as you foresaw.

"Vortex Kick!" Your kick fully empowered by Fighting Spirit and Mantra Chant crashes into Gogmamon's damaged leg, sweeping it aside and forcing the golem into balancing precariously on one stubby limb. And with its balance disrupted, you come down into a crouch, then unleash a rising Tai Atari.

The simple tackle, buries your pauldron into Gogmamon's gut and forces the unbelievably hefty Ultimate skywards, knocking him a full dozen meters into the air. Without the ability to maneuver, it's left to hang there, utterly defenseless.

More importantly however, it gives you enough time to stomp down and pivot.

"Shishi!" With a roar the fighting spirit you'd built up over the match funnels down into a single turbine. On your second spin space itself begins to warp around your fist. Then the third and final pirouette completed, the newly formed gravitational field pulls Gogmamon down into your technique. "Jūhazan!"

『The King Of Fists』

Your most powerful attack collides with the purposefully weakened structure of Gogmamon's torso, shattering the crystalline carapace before boring straight through. Every iota of your fighting spirit is discharged with the strike, and with a final roar your fist erupts out of the ore digimon's back.

The air is calm.

For a long quiet moment the two of you remain in place, victory swelling in your digicore… then something hard smashes into your forehead protector.

The unexpected headbutt flings you back a score of meters, and you roll back up to witness something shocking. Not only is Gogmamon still standing, but it seems completely unaffected by the hole you made in its stomach. Which is even now starting to slowly fill back in.

Your shock lasts only a half second before being replaced by a surge of excitement and mirth.

=== Choose One:

[]Your path forward is clear, in order to defeat him you need to use more Power.

[]Where raw power has failed, flawless Technique will overcome.

Power is not everything... but damn does it not feel good to curbstomp a bitch...

[x]Your path forward is clear, in order to defeat him you need to use more Power.

Save the extent of Verge's skill for later, a lot of mon here are very good at studying a given opponent so not showing more than we need to via putting more power into it feels better.

Out of curiosity, is the footage shown to the stands slowed down by Malkimon's magic so that its actually comprehensible to viewers?
only time carrying twice the weight behind it.
only this time
your fist erupts out of ore digimon's back.
of the ore
For a long quiet moment the two of you remain in place, Victory swelling in your digicore…
Was "Victory" meant to be capitalized there?
and you roll back up not to witness something shocking.
