Crystalwatcher's Magical Girl Quest!

Consider what the Purifier Beam is, metaphysically, and how it relates to the nature of Core Purge. Then consider all the things you do with the Purifier Beam with that in mind.

Hm... it is a release Valve for the core... oh, I think I get it.
Let me go scratch some things out of my vote.

Also, I was going over the character sheets again and just thought to myself... someone proposed cutting everything with Celestial Severance, which would help us a lot to take care of unseen mooks. Seeing that the ceiling already collapsed, we can not bring it down on us.

I will polish my vote a bit, just to make sure. Although I am worried about Starshine; I doubt we could aim it properly with all those nooks and crannies we can not look into.

[] Plan Fangirl Agenda
-[]Before the fighting starts, call out to Grey Champion and ask for her autograph
--[] If she says yes, fly over to her to get it and activate Core Purge the moment you have her autograph
---[] Should her Seal not go down, continue with the next part of the vote

--[] If she says no or ignores you, continue as follows:
---[] Use Celestial Severance in a wide arc against anything on ground-level in the courtyard; if Grey's pedestal is in range, cut this up as well to force her to the ground
---[]Take to the air and charge right at her; activate Core Purge as you move (Do not designate Grey Champion as a target, only her Seal; the same goes for any other Magical Girl that might be around)
---[] If enemy mooks are not in range of Core Purge, have Red Rose take point behind you to keep them from everyone else
---[] Aquila, James and Insight stay back and in cover, the former two focussing fire on the mooks; if Insight is capable of doing it, she stuns Grey Champion
---[] Solid Drive is on overwatch for healing and surprise murder.

---[] In case there are surviving mooks AND Grey Champion lasts more than two seconds or dodges the Core Purge somehow, everyone but Red Rose and Solid Core takes cover
----[] Have Solid Drive boost Grey Champion's Health, then use Starshine against Grey Champion's seal and all surviving mooks. Make sure to aim most of it into the air to limit collateral damage.

You still have the issue.

... hmm
Crazy theory time, if say WE got hit by something that effects our attack power, like say increases it does this increase of attack power count before it leaves our safety valve?

On whether there's anything here that can hurt us through Supremacy Zone:
On the topic of things that can bypass Supremacy Zone's defenses against ground-based targets, longer list than Indestructible Core's:

Supremacy
Auto Kill
Kill By Modifier
Detonate and it's derivatives. (Anti-air flak more or less.)
Anti-Air
Total Devastation
Blast ☆ Star!
Ability: Omni-Magic | Collateral Damage
Collateral Damage is a derivative of Detonate.

And while on the subject of semi-obscure effects, we can safely ignore the "when in aerial combat, you only get one APT", because (a) we have no (known) flying enemies, and (b) the narrative justification for that rule (that aerial combat is more dogfighting than straight blasting) doesn't apply.

Well, not in the sense of blowing yourself up, but... well, you use the Purifier Beam to aim, don'tcha?
…that makes too much sense (well, a loss of containment would normally just reduce the pressure at the release valve, and make it harder to do anything structured, but close enough). If that also applies to Celestial Severance and basic attacks (we've used a melee basic attack before while Core Purge was active, but nothing else), then there's nothing to use for a back-up ranged offense except James, Aquila, and Red Rose's attacks and Insight's grenades. It seems likely that we can still aim a basic attack (Lost, Gore?), though, so we can still blow her and her surroundings up like that. I think the room's big enough that we won't hit our allies, but they may want to hide from shrapnel.

If basic attacks will still work, I'll go modify the plan again. Tentative version:

[] Plan Just Do It (but make sure you have a backup plan, too)
-[] Core Purge immediately. Begin flying to activate Supremacy Zone, and adjust position to keep Grey Champion in range if necessary.
-[] If she thinks it will work, Insight stuns Grey Champion.
-[] Solid Drive goes up and separates from the group a little, to prevent being caught by unexpected AoE, and casts Shield Charge on Grey Champion.
-[] Everyone but Solid Core stays ready to intervene in case of surprises, or get to cover if Grey Champion lasts more than two seconds.
-[] If Sega successfully healed Grey Champion, shoot her with the Purifier Beam. Aim a little high, to try to limit the collateral damage to the far half of the room. Anybody who can't weather the shrapnel should be in cover.
-[] Nepgear flies around quickly to make sure that any remaining enemies are caught by Core Purge. Others continue to be on watch for any problems and use their judgement. If Grey is somehow still conscious, they can fire on her; she has way more HP than the Control Seal now.

If basic attacks don't work… I'm not sure what to do. Core Purge is the only thing that will take her down immediately without killing her, so I want to use it, but I also want an effective backup plan. Hm… Core Purge should still take care of the mooks, so we can just shoot her, or maybe get someone into melee range? Shield Charge does open up possibilities—a melee attack from Sega or Avatar of Victory should finish it. Still worried about traps, though…

Reaper, your vote's still missing the space after the comma.

Your reasoning makes a lot of sense; I would not have gotten that idea anytime soon.
Maybe it would be better to just not attack while Core Purge is active, just fly around and make sure everything in this room except for our guys and Grey is dead.

Also, hopefully the last new version of my vote; I still stay with Celestial Severance, just to make sure anything hiding behind the corners that might be able to pull Nepgear out of the air is vaporised first.
Also, while asking for that autograph is still something I want to do... hm... oh well, got to change that a bit as well. Maybe we can get her to talk for a moment, which would still give us first strike.

Either way, I think a small note for flavour like this should be there; this mission has enough of "look at your next enemy, now write a plan on how to fight her" already.

[X] Plan Fangirl Agenda
-[X]Before the fighting starts, call out to Grey Champion; ask if you can have her autograph once the battle is over

--[X] Have Solid Drive boost Grey Champion's Health, then let Red Rose take care of her
--[X] Meanwhile, Solid Core circles through the courtyard to make sure any nasty surprise gets a full dose of divine pink light; do not use any spells or other attacks while Core Purge is active

-[X] If Core Purge ends before the fight is over and Grey Champion's Health was boosted by Solid Drive, use Starshine against Grey Champion's Seal and all surviving mooks. Make sure to aim most of it into the air to limit collateral damage.

I cannot say for certain (conversation mostly pertained to spells), but it's likely that you'll keep basic attacks.
OK. Modifications made. Current version is
[x] Plan Just Do It (but make sure you have a backup plan, too)
-[x] Core Purge immediately (target Seals, do not target Grey Champion or any other MGs). Begin flying to activate Supremacy Zone, and adjust position to keep Grey Champion in range if necessary.
-[x] If she thinks it will work, Insight stuns Grey Champion.
-[x] Solid Drive goes up and separates from the group a little, to prevent being caught by unexpected AoE, and casts Shield Charge on Grey Champion.
-[x] Everyone but Solid Core stays ready to intervene in case of surprises, or get to cover if Grey Champion lasts more than two seconds.
-[x] If Sega successfully healed Grey Champion and Core Purge was ineffective against her, shoot her with the Purifier Beam. Aim to minimize the effect of the blast on the walls while still hitting Grey (i.e. near the center of the room and downward) (also, do our best to minimize collateral damage, even if that isn't much). Anybody who can't weather the blast and shrapnel should be in cover.
-[x] Nepgear flies around quickly to make sure that any remaining enemies are caught by Core Purge. Others continue to be on watch for any problems and act according to their judgement. If Grey is somehow still conscious, they can fire on her; she now has way more HP than the Control Seal.
Anybody want to change their vote? There are good arguments against using the Purifier Beam, so some people may want to abandon this plan or convince me to change it again (my reasoning for this change is in my previous post). [EDIT: Adjusted aim on the Purifier Beam. Forgot how fragile this place was; don't want to bring down the cathedral. Even if the people in there might deserve a building on their heads, we've been trying to minimize collateral.]

Hn. Could the stage be enchanted with bullshiti from another girl?
Yes. There's a long list of things that could go wrong if there is/was another MG around. There's an equally long list of potential problems if someone there knows brandcraft or MBinary and had time to work. And a slightly shorter list of worries about completely mundane obstacles, from explosives to rooftop snipers (the roof of this room has fallen in, but the adjacent rooms?) to pit traps to gas. I don't expect too many complications from that direction—the mission is a boss rush, and that means the bosses are the main thing—but they're definitely possible.

Umm, I just had a thought guys. The threat such an obvious trap setup as this is might not be to US directly, but to a member of our team. I mean, if I were White Soul, the first target on my list would not be Solid Core, but RED ROSE i.e. the only person I KNOW can kill me.

Now, who wants to bet while we're distracted taking out Grey Champion, White Soul might pop up to attempt to gib Red Rose while we're not looking?

Hm... again, we have confirmation from those in the know that White Soul will not be anywhere near us; she is the final boss and will not appear in Grey's boss battle.
Additionally, how exactly is WS supposed to kill Red Rose, the pvp-monster? Rose would take one hit, turn around and instakill her.

Are we assuming that it's safe to discard as absurd the answer "there is one or more hidden non-boss enemy with attacks capable of bypassing To Stand Amongst Gods"?

A long time from now, when we finally finish this mission, I wonder if the results of the mission will instantly elevate Nepgear to a very high rank on lists of the most historically significant/influential magical girls.

Considering that vs debates regarding the Old Guard and the modern Top 20 are Serious Business and the sheer effect it has on the opposing side when a member of the Top 20 takes the field, being able to say "I am the reason why a bunch of members of the Old Guard just returned to the Counter Force" sounds like a ridiculously large game changer in the flow of the war.

And that's on top of being able to say "I helped bring Goddess White and one of the Drives back too".

I was thinking about our future confrontation with White Soul and I had an interesting thought.

The interaction between Indestructible Core and The 'Kind' Monster. ICORE lets Nepgear survive being killed once per turn with her hp being dropped to 1. The 'Kind' Monster means Nepgear can't be killed until she hits -8,400hp. So what happens when Nepgear is killed while The 'Kind' Monster is in effect? Does her hp increase to 1hp, effectively healing her for 8,401hp, or does it just creep back up to -8,399hp?

We'd have to wait and see, but I'd assume that The 'Kind' Monster makes it so that 0 HP is no longer treated as "dead", preventing that effect of ICORE from triggering.

The big question then would be what happens at -8,400 Health, because "reduce her Health to 1" encounters ERROR. Unless it works via underflow, reducing her HP so much that it loops back around to a positive number.

Don't forget about Negative Zone's effect on Segarite Generators. Taking 3/4 of our base Health every turn could mess with Indestructible Core as well, or at least interact weirdly with it.
