Crystalwatcher's Magical Girl Quest!

hahah no. to stand among gods means no attack can do more than 20% of her health. so she dies in 5 hits, remember gray champions boost range is between 1 and 9002 because her weapon has spell boost so adds it's attack damage to all magic modifier rolls. taking 5 hits when up against 20 dudes who each attack more than once a turn is not much of a safety margin.

And you forgot that she can maximally take 20% of her max health in damage. Dieing in five hits is the worst case, not the standard. The best case is she takes around ten damage per hit. She also kills a mook with every strike, while the others in the background can pick off the rest.

Edit: By the way, you are getting rather toxic here; would you mind cutting down on the condescension?

sorry but you really seem to be missing the main threat here. gray champion has a buff spell that multiplies the damage output of all of her allies by thousands. Specifically she rolls 1d9002 and multiplies there base damage by the result. Barring impressively low rolls those mooks are going to be hitting like end bosses, with high rolls giving them damage output similar to low end nukes. Now it does not up their resilience, so they go down when hit but with the kind of damage they are swinging so does almost anyone in our party.

it's easy to miss because on paper her buff spell has a modifier of 1d2 but her weapon has spell boost so it adds it's base damage of 9000 to all of her magic modifiers, and we have word of GM confirmation that this applies to her buff spell. This is possibly one of the most dangerous fights we've been in because of the sheer overwhelming damage output all 20 of those guys has. Now it's possible there is a soft rules limit on that damage based on them not killing themselves, but we don't know where that is so assuming it's below the point where it kills anyone vulnerable to large damage numbers is a very risky assumption, she didn't make it into the top 10 by collecting bottle caps.

When I say we are playing rocket tag I mean it, we can splatter those mooks but those mooks can splatter us almost as easily. Our most durable fighters may need more than one hit, but against 20 mooks 10 of which have 2 attacks a turn that is not very reassuring.

the reason red takes 5 hits to kill is because she can only take a fith of her hp as damage at a tiem.

Looking at their attacks per turn, those mooks can not reach us on turn one and attack before we get to do something.
Core Purge kills them all at turn two in any case, no matter what happens; unless they mysteriously teleport right in front of us without needing any time for that, they can not even hit us that fast.

And again, I trust Crystalwatcher not to kill us for trying creative solutions, at least not on turn one. Of course we can maneuver us into a death trap, but every plan made agrees on using Core Purge, which will take care of all mooks anywhere near us, as soon as possible/viable.

You may be right and I underestimate the threat, but you probably overestimate it. We have a lot of bullshit on our side as well and Grey has no idea what we are capable of.

Edit: By the way, can Red Rose control what is hit by Men Kill Heroes? She could basically shut down every last ability of Grey Champion just with that.
Or did I miss some special clause on when RR can use it?

ok this bit this right here? this is why I'm having trouble staying civil. "if this goes wrong we lose people, and the gm would never do that" is horrible logic. I'm extrapolating consequences logically, we try your plan and she decides not to let the enemy with unknown abilities approach to gank range and we logically lose first turn. Then the enemy goes and starts throwing around attacks that can paste most of our party. I'm having flashbacks to a hollow quest where the players lost a ally because they wasted a turn challenging a silly rapping shingami to a rap battle and he took the chance to kill said npc, don't assuming silliness will shield form consequences unless the quest has a history of doing that.

Your plan is also unnecessary. we don't need permission to approach.

Well. As seen by the cannon check diplomacy doesn't always fail and the control red has over them isn't absolute.

Though that entirely depends if red hasn't actually given them orders not to let us get close.
Screw it, we are in a necropolis anyway.
Let me just go butcher all the existing votes... take some from here, some from there...

Tada, a Frankenvote!

[X] Plan Fangirl Agenda
-[X]Before the fighting starts, call out to Grey Champion and ask for her autograph; offer to leave your purifier beam with your team as a gesture of sincerety
--[X] If she says yes, fly over to her to get it and activate Core Purge the moment you have her autograph
---[X] Should her Seal not go down, continue with the next part of the vote

--[X] If she says no or ignores you, continue as follows:
---[X] Take to the air and charge right at her; activate Core Purge as you move (Do not designate Grey Champion as a target, only her Seal; the same goes for any other Magical Girl that might be around)
---[X] If enemy mooks are not in range of Core Purge, have Red Rose take point behind you to keep them from everyone else
---[X] Aquila, James and Insight stay back and in cover, the former two focussing fire on the mooks; if Insight is capable of doing it, she stuns Grey Champion
---[X] Solid Drive is on overwatch for healing and surprise murder.

---[X] In case Grey Champion lasts more then two seconds or dodges the Core Purge somehow, everyone but Red Rose and Solid Core takes cover
----[X] Have Solid Drive boost Grey Champion's Health, then use Starshine against Grey Champion's seal and all surviving mooks. Make sure to aim most of it into the air to limit collateral damage.

There are maybe two seconds lost in calling out... and honestly, we are supposed to be in reach of Core Purge already. Either way, having Red Rose tank the brunt of it sounds like a good plan, with the rest picking off targets of opportunity and elsewhise keeping their heads low. Only Nepgear can dare staying in the open because she will be in the air, completely invulnerable due to Supremacy Zone.

We only have a handful of people now; I want to take the chance for having another nullified battle simply so we have some more combat prowess for White Soul.

By the way, I called it Fangirl Agenda because Nepgear will get that autograph; either now or once she freed Grey and brought her back.
can we even Starshine without our beam?

I have to agree with npc. you are proposing a plan that that means depending on what MIND CONTROLED gray want's to do she can gank our minions. While npc is wrong in the fact that they can wipe us ( we can fly and red rose has abilities all over) you are ignoring that our minions are vulnerable and them dying can lead to a quest bad end.

we won't get wiped, but we may lose members of team gear, not all of them have protections that work against 7 figure damage values. Also while grey is soft controlled, she does see us as an enemy right now, so I doubt a veteran fighter would let us get close.

I'm unclear what do you think your vote will get you. Please explain before we keep arguing about this. What are you trying to achieve that's worth turning this from a instant win into an actual fight?
edit because the way it's worded we don't even get a autograph out of it.

[X] Plan Fangirl Agenda

Nepgear talking to people leads to some of the best bits of the quest. And since Supremacy Zone should keep us from suffering the possible downside of trying and failing to get a reaction this is the best (most entertaining) plan.

and our team? We can deal with this just fine, but our team is quite vulnerable right now.

Since my plan isn't winning and Fangirl Agenda will probably fail miserably, I'm changing my vote.

[X] Plan Just Do It (but make sure you have a backup plan, too)

Not wanting to risk our team right now.

Supremacy zone as far as i'm aware does not keep teammates from dying which is the biggest downside of the plan. if it were any other girl I would not oppose this plan so much but gray is bullshit if you let her do stuff.

Voting will close some time after the update for Inheritance of Man is out. (Going to be scurrying over to write it next.)

As for the current plans, I just want to raise a couple points since Lost poked my benevolence button in the work shop with how long it's been and how rusty everyone likely is:
  • Grey Champion is a vet of vets. She survived a lot of shit, from World War 3, all the way up until shortly after Hope when White Soul went off the deep end. She didn't get to the point by being an idiot, so plans that bank on her doing something that falls under "would you do this in her shoes?" and you find yourself saying no, then you have your answer.
  • She is also obsessed with her Fan Base. Doesn't mean she won' be smart about it.
  • She's also an idealist. Take that as you will.
  • She's a ranged attacker with a wall of 'meat' shields in between her and any oncoming foe... while standing on a highly exposed, and raised platform with clear lines of sight from the entire area. Don't any of you think that's odd?

I had thought she needed a clear line of sight in order to hit someone with her attack, what with it being a sort of sonic wave. Does she not?

Not really.

Grey Champion's attacks give her Health at a 1 to 1 ratio. Standing in a spot with clear sightlines gives her a good way to blast back at anyone, and since she's a high tier MG she typically gets the first shot. So placing herself to suport her dakka and force enemies to charge through the crowd to reach her didn't seem weird.

Well, I kind of assumed that it means she's going to blast the hell out of everyone who sticks their head out? To the extent that having freedom to do so without worrying about friendly fire is beneficial enough to risk getting sniped? I figure she'll just open up with Blast Star and squish our squishy people, and casting that simultaneously buffs her minions, and then she can either stay up there and keep blasting or jump off the platform and hide amongst the gribblies depending on the circumstances. Since she has that health gain thing and a buff build, it's extremely advantageous for her to get off at least one significant attack without harming her minions. She basically seems to be gambling that she can win out in an alpha strike competition against us without dying, and she probably isn't particularly attached to staying on that platform after round one. After that, she might be entirely willing to gain health by vaporizing her minions if they don't turn out to be useful against us or she just needs to not die, so that's a thing to watch out for.

But maybe I'm misreading it. Alternatively, this is some sort of horrible trap and Goddess Red is hiding behind her skirt or whatever, or maybe she borrowed energy shields or something from someone.
