Crystalwatcher's Magical Girl Quest!

FATAL GEAR 1
It happens fast, and without warning.

"Team GEAR! Hit the radio! White, try to stop up the Black Knight!" Your team springs into motion with determination. White goes straight for Black, and James has the Radio on and is shouting into it before he's even fully turned around.

Your own feet leave the ground in almost the same instant, and Candy Heart is rushing right at you.

"Countdown start! Core Purge!" The sound of breaking glass fill the air, and you feel your armor literally disintegrate. Something inside of you rushes out of the metaphysical gap it leaves, and the world is suddenly...

Light.

Your inner energies flood out like a tidal wave. A wall of sparkling power that washes over everything and fills a good portion of the mausoleum. That infinite something spreads through the air, searching for something else, but fails to find it...

But in that failure it succeeds in something else.

Countdown Left: 4)

The first zombies through the door cease to exist. As they enter the light, they turn to dust, and that dust then fades into nothing. The Black Knight noticeably flinches as it is hit in turn, and Candy Heart doesn't even have a chance to scream.

The instant before she disintegrates into a cloud of dust and blood you can see her mouth open, her face twist in pain, and fear fill her eyes... and then she' gone again. The girl that had tried her best to save you when your town was destroyed is so much dust on the wind as her blood rains down around you.

But the fight doesn't stop there. The Black Knight's eyes are locked dead on to you, registering you as a significant threat. And instead of going for White Knight like you were sure it would, it instead changes direction and goes straight for you. It crosses the distance in moments, and you rear back, trying to get away because you know you don't stand a chance against it...

Then White Knight is between the two of you and swinging desperately!

(The White Blade: 1,500, +166 Dice, +1,000 Horrific Speed Gap = 2,666 Total Damage

Juggernaut Blade: 5,000 Base Damage, no dice, +500 Unreal Strength, +10 Surprise = 5,510 Total Damage

Juggernaut Blade: 2,844 Intercept Damage, no dice, +500 Unreal Strength = 3,344 Total Damage
White Knight: 750 Base resilience, Dice Negated, -500 Weapon Broken, -50 Unable to dodge = 200 Damage Reduction

3,144 Total End Damage

White Knight: 4,500 - 3,144 = 1,356 Health Remaining)

The Black Knight swings it's own sword, and steel shatters. The White Blade barely even slows the Black Blade down. Fragments of enchanted metal fill the air as the false knight's attack sweep in and nearly cleaves White Knight in half. Blood fountains through the air, mixing with Candy Heart's. White Knight's eyes are wide as she falls, staring blankly as her blood paints the world red.

Then the Black Knight is past her and face to face with you, Black Blade singing through the air. You raise your own Panzer Blade but you know that you've fucked up.

(Core Purge: 1,500 Base Damage
The Black Knight: 1,000 Base Resilience, no dice, +2,500 Epic Existence, -5,000 Hostile Divinity Exposure = 1,500 Extra Damage

No Longer Human 50% Reduction: 2,700/2 = 1,350 Final Damage

Solid Core: 380 - 1,350 = -970 Remaining Health.

You: Dead.

CORE BREACH!)

Your Panzer Blade doesn't even slow it down. Metal rends, and half of it is flying away as the seemingly unstoppable blade goes right through the rest of you like your made of paper. Blood and dust flies from the titanic wound, as you are literally cut in half lengthwise.

You feel no pain... and the incredible light that your Core Purge had revealed floods from the wound... and you know no more.

-/LINE BREAK IDENTIFIED\-

The light that suddenly envelops the Cemetery where Team GEAR and White Knight were deployed is unstoppable.

A wall of force sweeps out barely centimeters from it's advance as both tree and stone are wiped from existence. The helicopter that had been on station to extract them should anything go wrong is enveloped as well without warning, meeting the same fate.

The second Helicopter carrying Goddess Gold and Blue Sky barely have enough time to realize something had happened before the wave of light is upon them.

"Oblivion!" Rei cuts the name of the attack short to fire it off faster, a mad attempt to stem the destruction heading right at them. Light meets Light, and the world almost shits itself. Everything shatters, and the helicopter is almost knocked out of the sky instantly.

The raw turbulence caused by the clash though knocks Bly Sky screaming into the air, as the Light washes over her, taking her as well. Seeming to take forever the battle of will against destruction ends in mere seconds, leaving the devastation free to view.

And as far as the eye can see... Rei sees nothing but the glass crater and blasted land. "Nep-?"

So, apparently Black Knight was singlehandedly capable of soloing our entire party, effortlessly.

And our only chance was making it so we were low-priority enough that it decided to kill White Knight first.

The big problem was that it was intending to play with White Knight for a good portion of the flight.

Then you instagibbed everything else and took a significant chunk off it's health.

To be fair.

There is no good outcome here--the best we can hope for is Black Knight butchering White Knight and hoping it doesn't decide to chase us until Rei finishes driving Red off.

Like, the idea was hoping that the veteran Magical Girl could tarpit the thing that only looks really scary rather than just suck and die in one exchange. That the situation isn't "Literally at the mercy of the super god monster that's been thrown at us"

There's "Absurdly fast escalation" and there's "The other side throws their most killtacular agents out every time you show your face, even in what should have been a milk run"

That's basically God taking a shit on you... which has kind of been what Ana's life has been since the monster attack actually.

Yeah.

Basically, my argument was predicated on the idea that the Black Knight was a scary, but basically disposable projection, not the kind of thing that could casually butcher a veteran while its master was fighting someone who's stronger than they are.

Evidently, I was grossly incorrect.

Welp, the more we know--at least this isn't a Quest that stops the moment you get a Bad End, especially given how we can't so much as peek our head out of our base without running into an enemy Goddess.

Reminder off what difficulty setting we picked:

[]FRESH MEAT - This is your first magical fight and your powers just woke up. Yeah, your fucked. Hard. (Ohmygodwhy - Your the poor bastard that has literally just started the game and got their poor ass level warped to the secret boss chamber that only the Uber Pros even attempt to take on. If you manage to even just survive this, your name is going to be legendary. Somehow manage to kill this sonuvabitch? Your name is going to be synonyms with 'Hard to Kill'.)

I'd say we're living up to it~

So.....What we do now? Can we upgrade Core Purge? Make it deal enough Damage to kill that fucking knight? Maybe Upgrade Purifier Beam?

Not a chance. Black Knight has effectivelly 3,500 resiliance. We don't have anything that can scratch that outside of Core Purge.

Same issue with the Control Seal--even if it exists, even if we can target it without an indiscriminate "Fuck Everything" aura--we don't have anything that could hurt it. Core Purge worked in that it was indiscriminate, and nullified their hyper-resiliance, but it resulted in us getting our face wrecked, and the things we'd want to release from that seal would die long before the seal did, since it has 5,000 health, and far more resiliance than the host did.

In other words, it's basically only there to make you waste your energy trying to hit it, and likely would just result in the host regularly dying once it ended.

After all, this setting is built from the ground up to be hilariously in favor of the most monstrous side, given how the unified coalition of "Not necessarily wanting to destroy you" is curbstomping our side, and even Akashic Pillar entering just resulted in a slight delay--and ended with the Unified Darkness basically getting three uberunits--one of which can resurrect and perfectly mind control fallen allies and enemies alike.

So being caught off guard by our powerful AOE attack didn't guard break the Black Knight enough to create an opening for White Knight?

Also, there's another thing we learned this time. All our passive damage reduction skills do not apply to the self-inflicted damage from Core Purge.

2 levels in Core Containment gets us 100 HP and 375 more damage in Purge. In other words, not nearly enough... yet anyway. *Looking at that Ability with Adamantium and lvl 10 CC prerequisites*

Starshine is a Divinity type Spell, it would get us that same 5000 bonus on the resilience checks I think.

Still need to hit the Control Seal, still need to do so without hitting the subject, who is far more fragile than the Control Seal, and anything capable of doing even scratch-damage to it will one-shot her, since she gets fucked up by the Hostile Divinity effect too.

And we don't even know the Control Seal exists.

In other words, there's no miracles to be had here, only taunting from a laughing god.

We couldn't have won this fight; the BK is just too strong and the 'veteran' poses less of a threat to it than we do. I don't think the XP we have here will change that, so the only chance we have here is that the BK isn't going to take it seriously if it doesn't feel under actual threat. We have to basically act weaker than we are, lest the nigh unstoppable (for us) juggernaut stop playing around and kill us, so we have to try this again and this time... do worse, to do better.

We're basically stalling for time, I guess, because Rei is inbound. I swear, we run into this shit every time we so much as leave the base.

Anyway, we ought to get XP for the people our death explosion killed. Blue Sky was an MG, and I'm pretty sure that, technically, we beat the BK with that! That deserves credit! :V

Actually, with this one, since Core Purge does indeed target "enemies", would it harm Candy Heart if we don't view her as an enemy?

Regardless, probably a good idea for Ana to take herself outside before going all "MY DIVINE RADIANCE SMOTES THE UNWORTHY". It should clear-up the zombies rather nicely.

Pretty sure they meant upgrading the Core Purge ability itself, which might increase its damage scaling rate. That or reduce the downsides of using it.

Reducing the downside wouldn't have saved us, Black Knight even employing halfway effort could casually kill us with a single hit.

Her base damage is 5,000. Cut down to 25%, and it's still enough to kill us three times over. That's basically a regular "I'm actually trying to hit you but not actually using any powers" melee attack.

Then Red just snipes us, as she's still in the area, just tarpitting Rei.

And if we can't even survive going a single round with her half-assed minion, it won't cause her any real effort to snuff us out.

Yes, but improving the hit scaling would make a big difference. Right now its Damage=(hpCost * 75). An upgrade that changes that 75 to a bigger number would improve our damage output by a ton.
