Samael is practically jabbering in excitement to anyone who would listen when you part ways with him. The man was more excited then you had ever seen him, and you couldn't help but feel happy for him yourself. You could remember how happy you had been when Sega had taken you from your childhood home to your new home town. It wasn't the same... but it was similar enough you could almost understand his own happiness.
A happiness that grew a bit tiresome after fifteen minutes.
Which is how you found yourself wondering around the base in the growing twilight of the day, watching as the base personnel wrapped up their daily activities for nighttime. The whole thing carried with it a kind of peacefulness that was hard to describe. A sense of duty, and a job well done permeated the air of the make-shift camp.
Supply officers joked with one another as they locked up what they could. Surviving Pilots hazed the replacements that had been sent in with the new helicopters. Grunts teased rookies and looked at you with gratefulness. Many of them specifically would have been consigned to death if not for your own actions at New York, and they knew it.
You weren't used to it yet, but you also knew that it wouldn't be long before more soldiers started to look towards you with hope. It was a daunting thought.
"Walking the base?" The young voice shakes you from your thoughts. In surprise you turn around and come face to face with a girl that was around your own age. She stood roughly two inches taller than you, and had blond hair and blue eyes. A white dress flowed down to her knees, with a pair of simple shoes, and a blue headband. "I don't see many other girls my age at military bases these days. Most that get stationed on Earth are either older than me, or hide in their barracks until they get a deployment order... Oh! My name is Ada Castle. Nice to meet you."
She leans forward and thrusts her hand out with a large grin on her face. Drawn in by her enthusiasm, you can't help but smile at her as well. You take her hand in your own and give it a firm shake.
"It's a pleasure to meet you! My name is Anastasia Boheart." 'For what it's worth I think it' a brilliantly adorable name!' You give an almost imperceptible flinch at the flash of memory. Ada though, catches it, and your smile turns melancholy. "But... Everyone calls me Nepgear these days..." The image of Richard's grinning face imposes itself on your mind. His look of cheerful amusement comes with a poignant sense of regret as you realize you had never forgiven him for his attempts to cheer you up after the death of your previous life. Regardless of how annoying you found the nickname.
"I sense a story there... but I won't ask." Ada is able to read your mood easily. Noticing the pain the nickname came with now she sidesteps the issue and barrels on to a new topic. "So. When did you get relocated here? I only heard what happened to the last NE-NA base after they loaded me up in a helicopter with my stuff."
Grateful for the subject change you latch onto it, "Actually, I was stationed at the previous base here before it was destroyed. I was coming back from the New York Attack when the base was hit."
She grimaces at that, "Ouch. I didn't think that you'd have been stationed here. Is it true though? That Goddess Grey was the one that wiped out the base?"
You nod an affirmative. It wasn't like it was classified knowledge, or any real secret. "Yeah. She left before she finished killing everyone because Goddess Gold was on her way back to the base herself, and I don't think she wanted to force a confrontation just yet."
"That's bad. If one of the Goddesses lead the attack, then it means the destruction of that base was important for something."
You can't help but smile at the worried look on her face. "Then I guess that means we just have to work hard to make sure whatever it is doesn't work out, right?"
"Come on, sis, it's too embarrassing to do it out in the open!" Now that they were older, the younger sister was self-conscious when doing it.
"It's not as bad as you make it out to be. Besides, I hardly ask you to do it anymore." They only had each other, so in a way, this was important to the elder sibling.
"...Do I really have to?" She was really reluctant to doing this in public.
"Tell ya what: You do this for me and I promise to leave off on the nickname for a while." The older one sighed while smiling.
"Your promise? You swear that you'll do it!?" The younger one's eyes were full of desperation while her hands were balled into fists.
"Of course, of course! I wouldn't break a promise to ya, would I?" Whenever she promised to do something, the elder sister made certain to stick to it, especially ones involving her sibling.
"Alright, here goes..!" The younger was filled with resolution and gathered up her courage to do something that was both embarrassing and kinda stupid, but stilled filled with the love that bonded the both of them.
Anticipation filled in the older one's chest as her sibling was about to do one of the younger sisters' least favorite things to do but would always warm the requestor's heart.
Finally, out loud and in a singsong voice, her name was spoken:
"Seeeeee~gaaaaaaaaa~~!" The name of her sister, Sega, reverberated out at the top of Nepgear's lungs.
Half a dozen people looked rather strangely at the tall girl, and she did feel embarrassment from the looks by the onlookers, but in her eyes? The payoff for doing this stunt would be worth it. Sega smiled immensely as she gave a big, warm embrace to her younger sister.
"I love you, Sis." Nepgear said while her eyes were closed as she embraced her sister back.
"Love ya too, Anastasia. Love ya too." Was the only thing Sega said back.
Your sight is blurry as you stare at the roof of Rei's tent. Your quiet sobs a soft background noise to the slowly waking base outside though the rest of Team GEAR with Goddess Gold still sleep. The memory of your dream refuses to fade with the waking of the mind and you feel the grief of the last few days bear down on you like the weight of Atlas' burden.
"God... dammit... Sega." You cry quietly to yourself as the night melts away.
Why does it hurt so much?

"Goddess Gold, ma'am. The Lieutenant requires the presence of Team GEAR in the command tent."
Thoughts of your sister are pushed to wayside as a soldier runs up to your ragtag group to deliver his message. Rei looks at him in surprise, as does the rest of your team. You had subconsciously known that this would happen... but so soon after New York?
"Tell him we're on our way." It takes a moment, and the look of surprise on Rei's face for you to realize that you had been the one to speak. A blush creeps up your cheeks as the silence stretches. "Um... sorry?"
"Oh. My. God! You are so cute when you take command like that!" Rei literally throws herself at you in her sudden eagerness to give you a hug. Your squawk is audible as she impacts and carries you to the ground to snuggle you like you were some kind of puppy.
"Gah!! Help! She's... smothering me!" With her arms wrapped almost completely around your head you find yourself almost unable to breathe as she reels you in.
It takes you almost fifteen minutes to make the normally four minute trip to the command tent, and when you arrive your hair is an incredible mess and your face is locked in a shell shocked state while Rei carries your limp form in her arms.

The base commander is older than you. By a lot.
His form is massive. Almost seven feet tall, he towers over your ragtag group like a giant, huge muscled arms crossed before him, and deep green eyes peer out from underneath his grey hair as if trying to define if you were joking with him or not.
The fact Rei was sporting a smile that held absolutely zero remorse didn't help matters at all as you remained in a limp daze.
"I'm not going to ask." James and Michael are burying their faces in their hands from shame, while Samael watches from his position like he was seeing a comedy act live. The Lieutenant simply rolls his eyes. "We got word of strange activity around a graveyard. We're not certain what they would want from it, but due to reports of similar activity around other grave yards Regional Command wants us to investigate. We need to find out what's going on, and if it's the Unified Darkness, we need to shut it down, whatever the reason. But since it's not a confirmed attack, we're only going to be sending out only a small group to investigate. Magical Girl White Knight, Magical Girl Solid Core, and her team will be the ones getting deployed. Goddess Gold and Blue Sky will remain on standby just in case..."
Your daze fades through the briefing, but you find yourself unwilling to have Rei put you down. So, instead you take the opportunity to take a quick gaze around you as subtly as you can manage. Rei is still grinning as if from some joke only she knew, while James, Mike, and Sam were all paying close attention. And just to the side stood a young woman alongside Ada: she stood slightly shorter than you, but held herself in a way that made her feel larger than she was.
Blond like the girl next to her, the most obvious difference besides the height would have to be the blazing green eyes that seemed to glow with an inner fire.
You blink, breaking the spell and draw your attention back to the Lieutenant. She must have been White Knight.
"We want to do this quietly, so you won't be able to expect much backup or long range support. We'll see about handing out earpieces that'll allow you to contact command if necessary but it'll be on a case by case basis. Any questions?"
James raises his hand first, drawing the room's attention, "How large is the graveyard? And how important is it?"
The Lieutenant nods at the question, "It's not very large. A single central mausoleum surrounded by about seven hundred graves. It's where we buried the dead from the previous Base, a well as a portion of civilians from a town that was recently destroyed."
You flinch. Rei glances at you, but Team GEAR's notice are a lot more significant.
The only town that had been 'recently destroyed' had been your own. Meaning... "Sega..." your voice is small but, draws the attention of the rest of the room. You had not gone to your sister's funeral. Burying yourself instead in your new role as a Magical Girl, you had not been able to bring yourself to face your sister's death. Now, you were going to the very graveyard that she had more than likely been buried at.
James' hand lands on your shoulder and you twist to look at him. "Don't worry kid. If there's time after the mission we can take a quick stop at her grave so you can visit her."
He doesn't need to elaborate, and the dawning comprehension from the rest of the room tells you they know what he's talking about.
"Your..." Ada doesn't finish her sentence.

The flight to the graveyard is a quiet affair. You lean into Michael as the sound of the engine washes over you and your team.
At some point White Knight had changed into her Magical Girl form and stood next to the door instead of sitting. From her position, she watches your fragmented team as you lose yourself to your thoughts.
"Hey Kid." Her voice draw your collective attention. "The Graveyard is small, but if we split up, we might be able to cover more space faster."
The suggestion is straight, and to the point. And while layered in logic you know what she's offering.
[]Stick with White Knight and get it over with. The sooner the mission in done, the more time you can spend at Sega's grave.
[]Split up. Visit Sega's grave during the mission and pay what respects you can while White Knight takes care of everything.

In all honesty, I really hope the Armored Core upgrade increases our health, or at least increases our damage reduction. It should be fairly impressive what with its XP cost, but I really want to get the most bang for our buck here.

You really did. Thanks to Dark-Sakura Goddess we already know the dead can get back up, so... Logical Conclusion is (attempted) Zombie Apocalypse (or at least army) with some probably being DMGs.

On the other hand, this might not be the Unified Darkness. If Sega was a retired MG, it might be an old team-mate trying to find her to pay her respects.
Edit: Fucking damnit, zombies, really? I was hoping for something less obvious.

Any flavor bonuses in story for that. Like Nep just going "Yup, saw that coming a mile away"... and of course the creeping horror she's going to run into her sister.
Hmm... Honestly not sure I want to see that or not. On one hand, Trauma. On the other hand, Nepgear a cute. And I like her enough I don't... completely want to inflict that on her. If we had the Raiser/Summoner there and we could go Rage! on them... Bah. Guess it depends on how its handled.
