Crystalwatcher's Magical Girl Quest!

TEAM GEAR
"Michael, call Rei and see if you can get her down here. Let her know we're facing off against Nep's sister, I want to try and get her alive if possible." Your fellow soldier nods, carefully shuffling his radio around for easier access, and starts to whisper into it. From there you step boldly forward, placing yourself clearly in between Nepgear and Sega. "So why exactly are you here? What's your big master plan?"

Sega glances between you and Anastasia's prone form with a glint of amusement in her eye. "No big plan, I'm just here for my sister. Do you have any idea how hard it was to slip through the evacuation portal when no one was looking?" You blink in surprise at that. "Honestly, I don't think they even know I'm here right now."

"Seriously? How the hell did you expect to get out of here? Do you have any idea how hard it is to open a portal form one dimension to another? Even then, they'd have to need to know where you are so you can give them a signal to open the portal!" Now Gabriel was ranting. You had never heard her rant... but then again she hadn't been a part of the team for all that long. "Did you think this through at all?!"

"Nope." Sega's nonchalant response brings the young angel up short and derails your thought process as well. "I've never been very good at thinking things through. So I just wing it. My goal is to get Anastasia out of here and somewhere else. I'll make everything else up as I go along." She shrugs, but doesn't lower her sword from it's ready position. "I'd like it if you guys would come along as well... but. I'm pretty sure we all know that's not happening. So, how about we cut the chitty-chit-chat and get this show on the road?"

You sigh; So much for talking her down. "Gabriel, grab Anastasia and make sure Sega can't get to her. Sam, if you can, try and use your Libras, try to find out what you can about her. Mike, try to see if you can damage that seal on her neck. I'll try to keep her busy."

Your team grunt in confirmation. You all spread out slightly so Gabriel can grab Anastasia easier. Sega, on the other hand, takes that as the signal that you're done planning and stops waiting.

She folds herself down to the ground, taking a stance almost identical to a sprinter's pose, but with her sword held horizontally beside her, level with the ground. The grin on her face doesn't fade. You step forward, drawing your own sword, intent on at least slowing her down, but when she finally does move its not in a way you expect.

She launches forward, just barely this side of human in speed. Hyper-focused, you can see each of her muscle groups contract and expand as she unleashes her attack. It takes but moments to cross the gap between you, but in the end her speed can be described as 'human'. You move to dodge, but it proves pointless as she darts past you without even slowing.

You're halfway turned around when you realize who her real target is.

Sega Boheart slips between Gabriel and Mike as easily as she had past you, and the tip of her blade darts out in a perfectly inscribed lunge. Being behind everyone else, Samael was the farthest away from her. He had also been facing her directly, preparing a spell when she had attacked: thus, he had more than enough time to actually try to dodge.

And dodge he did. His head slips smoothly out of the path of her blade, which soars over his shoulder in a perfectly straight line. What he didn't manage to dodge was the inhumanly-strong punch that his dodge put him into the path of.

"Basic RPG Strategy! Take out the Spell Caster first!"

Sega's grin turns feral as Sam's breastplate caves in. In slow motion, you watch as his face turns from surprise to pain, and finally disbelief as his lungs and diaphragm evacuate his air supply, before the force of Sega's punch physically lifts the soldier off his feet and subsequently launches him backwards down the tunnel you had come through. You hear him hit the ground but you're too preoccupied by Anastasia's sister to worry much about him.

Neither you nor Gabriel are in a position to help at all, and Michael finds himself on his own as Sega moves against him. And he gives damn good showing for Team GEAR.

He opens up point-blank. Nearly his full barrage pours into the seal on Sega's collarbone, but some of the bullets hit her directly. At the speed she's moving, it's amazing that he managed to hit at all. Then she spins, her blade singing through the air, and Michael ducks under it, barely keeping his head attached to his shoulders.

He doesn't manage to dodge the roundhouse kick that takes him in the collarbone though. You hear bone crack as Mike's armor deforms. He shouts in surprise and pain as, like Sam, he's launched away into a wall. Then Sega is moving again, straight for you, and you realize her plan.

She's trying to take each of you out as non-lethally as she can, as quickly as she can, so she can grab Anastasia and leave. Each blow she had landed was just enough to put a regular human soldier down for the count, and she didn't hesitate to go from one to the next... Had she gone against any team besides Team GEAR, she might have won handily.

But Team GEAR was anything but normal. You had to be if you wanted to roll with Solid Core.

When Sega lunges for you, the world seems to slow down. You didn't know how you did it, but whenever you felt sufficient danger this happened: you would enter a state of hyper-alertness that would let you think at what seemed the speed of light.

You could see Sega's every move in perfect detail, feel your body move on autopilot as you watch her move through the space separating you like a slow-motion playback.

Not even halfway there, you somehow know exactly how she was going to attack you. Exactly how she was going to move. And exactly what you needed to do to counter it.

Your foot hits dirt the same instant Sega's does. Her blade spears forward, and you dodge automatically, bending backwards to let the blade pass in front of your face. Sega would have then swept her arm backwards to clothesline you in the face, but instead she had bigger problems to worry about. Namely, your own sword that was moving in a near-perfect mirror of her own attack.

Eyes widening, her attack adjusts in mid-flight and you feel your blades meet in a shower of sparks. Her attack is diverted, and so is yours; the two of you find yourselves right next to each-other, the other's outstretched arm right next to the other's face. She stares at you in stunned awe.

"Sam, now!" Your voice breaks her reverie.

"Libras!" But the sound of Sam's voice is enough to cause her to completely divert her attention away from you entirely to stare in disbelief at Sam as his spell launches. It does no damage, but it races across the intervening distance and back in the time it takes Sega to dance away from you.

Bright light surrounds Sam as whatever spell he learned infuses him instantly. Sega tries to dodge, but even you knew that one couldn't dodge light.

"Purge!" The new light envelopes Sega as a roaring inferno. She screams, but you know she takes no real damage, because you knew without a doubt what Sam's real target is.

From where you stand, you can easily see the slowly dissolving form of the seal on Sega's neck. It' far from gone, but you know without a doubt that you could destroy it. All you needed was a few more good hits on it.

Michael and Sega are Grappling!)

Gabriel is standing off to the side of the fight, obviously confused as to whether or not she should join in on the mess and help out. So far she has decided to simply huddle over Anastasia's unresponsive form, for which you were grateful. But when Sega screams from Sam firing off two more Purge Spells you can tell that she wants to run in and help. Thankfully she doesn't, but that's probably because a still slightly dazed Michael decides to do something stupid.

The idiot apparently decides that running up and tackling the Girl that had been going toe to toe with your entire team was a great idea!

But the fact was that the larger male had outright hit Sega like a ton of bricks and lifted her off the ground by her arms. The whole scene leaves you wondering if he had hit his head a little too hard. But thanks to the new positioning none of the rest of the team can actually contribute when Sega regains enough of her senses to strike back.

For a moment, the two wrestle against eachother, Sega trying to break Mike's grip by twisting her arms in place. When that fails, she places a foot on his bent knee and uses it to launch a powerful kick right into his face. You hear a crack as Mike's nose breaks from the blow and his helmet is sent flying, and for a moment you believe Sega has gotten free!

Then Michael catches himself on his back foot, and throws his whole weight behind a single shoulder and literally hurls himself at the girl just in time to catch her in the stomach before she manages to land. The blow has enough momentum behind it to allow Michael to carry Sega the steps required to pin her against the wall of the chamber.

The girl gasps as the air is knocked from her lungs, and she drops her blade.

Its obvious that at this rate Michael won't let Sam get the spells off needed to finish the Seal. So, groaning about annoying Teammates, you drop your own weapons and charge over to the struggling duo to add your own weight in on the battle.

(Goddess Gold Inbound: 1 Turn

Michael: 2,137 - 983 = 1,154
James: 2,500 - 983 = 1,517)

And as you probably should have seen coming; Sega uses your attempt to help to break free. As you try to jump in on the melee, Sega slams her elbow into the side of Michael's head just hard enough to make him stumble slightly to the side.

And right into your path.

You slam face-first into your teammate and the both of you stumble even worse. Next thing you know, Sega is free, kicking you in the place where the sun don't shine, and you're rolling across the ground trying to Assume The Position. You lose track of Michael in the momentary confusion and for a split second you fear the struggle has been for nothing.

"Chains of the Earth."

Never before had Rei's voice sounded so heavenly to you. Huge lengths of steel erupt from the stone walls of the chamber like tidal waves. Links clash against each-other as they pour out of the walls and Sega squeals as she's suddenly strung up like a Christmas gift.

Chains around her torso, pulling her coat-dress tight. Her arms are bound together and pulled behind her, but her legs are bound individually and pulled apart from eachother. You stare at Sega's predicament as Goddess Gold storms into the chamber looking as if she was about to start foaming at the mouth.

Strung up as she is, there is nothing Sega can do as the last of her seal is burned away by Gabriel's light, and a fountain of black sludge erupts from it as it vanishes, knocking the girl out as well. You flop over in relief.

-/LINE BREAK IDENTIFIED\-

Unlike Team GEAR, when Goddess Gold went leaping into the hole everyone noticed. Probably because instead of trying subtle she had simply drawn her weapon and blown away a significant chunk of the ground before charging in. This required the soldiers on station to go charging in after her to help secure everything. Somewhere in the chaos Samael managed to pass on the location of the possibly dormant xenomorph nest hidden behind the collapsed tunnel that GEAR had caved in.

Still didn't help that everyone nearly had a heart attack when the chest burster in White finally ripped it's way out and aged to fully grown near instantly before their eyes. The surprise of the rapid aging would have allowed it to actually kill someone had Gabriel not been right there and rather happy to take revenge for her own injuries in relation to the damned things. The xenomorph died in sudden pain and confusion only a few seconds after it was born. Gabriel wound up needing new armor though.

You personally had a less-than-pleasant conversation with Commander Mason about following orders and the importance of such regardless of anything else. You manage to get through the conversation without decking him in the face. Somehow.

But after everything was said and done, you wonder through the command post to find your way to Rei, whom was with Goddess White. And had a chain literally wrapped around the other girl's torso and connected to her gauntlet like a leash. "Do I even want to know?"

Rei looks at you, "Do you want to be walking even funnier?"

You mime zipping your mouth shut as San smiles weakly at you. Turns out repeatedly giving birth to xenomorph was not conductive to one's stamina, which was why the poor girl was unconscious when you found her: the pain had knocked her out. But now that she no longer had to worry about one ripping its way out of her, she had reverted to her human form in order to conserve what was left of her strength, and you could honestly say despite how morbid it was, San Mitsubishi looked damn good in her burial gown.

Right across from San on another medical stretcher is the still unconscious Nepgear, also in her 'civilian' form. It had actually taken you a while after the fight with Sega ended to realize she had been in her civilian form the entire time. But that wasn't what worried you about her; what worried you was the bruising around her neck.

"So, how is Sega? She still under watch?"

"Yeah, so is San officially, but I'm not letting her out of my sight so everyone decided to just let me handle that part." You smile at her and Rei huffs, turning away from you.

This just makes you smile even harder.

"When they're positive the seal is completely gone they'll release her to my custody as well since I'm refusing to let Anastasia out of my sight until I'm positive something like this wont happen again." Her tone slowly turns venomous towards the end of her sentence. Her anger is almost palatable. "So... what are you going to do?"

"Me? Got some paperwork to fill out... but I'll probably try and figure out someone to stay near her just in case she wakes up. Want anything while I'm running around?"

Rei glances from you to Nepgear. "Nah. I'm good for now." You take the dismissal for what it is and walk/limp away.

"What a fucking day..." So... who to put on Nep-watch?

Actually, in light of all the stuff that Samael Librased, why don't we get Synchronize instead?

Get some of that looted magic working for us.

Save the rest for Synchronize?

Naw, after Indestructible core and Echo of Peace we will be ludicrously covered in defense and support; let's get it to where Nepgear can actually deal damage.

If we're getting Echo of Peace. Honestly, I want to upgrade damage a lot and flight a bit.

Also, holy crap, that update was amazing. And perfectly named.

Hora, hora, Team Gear in its entirety is now up on someone's shit list. That worked out pretty well!

I think it's going to be pretty obvious that given Team Gear survived hurtling through that underground nest that they're on MG-tier.

Also @crystalwatcher - nice job. That was a pretty cool explanation of how Sega got there.

So possible XP spending:

Core Containment: Level 10 = 70 + 80 + 90 = 240xp
Indestructible Core: 850xp
Covering Fire: 75xp
Echo of Peace: 550xp
Purifier Beam: Level 11 = 100xp
Starshine: Level 3 = 20xp
Total = 240 + 850 + 75 + 550 + 100 + 20 = 1,835xp
Remainder = 1,852 - 1,835 = 17xp

Gets us the two most awesome abilities in the shop, upgrades Interceptor Fire to protect our allies, ups Nepgear's Base Damage to 1,135, and lets us work out the growth pattern for Starshine. All in all it seems like quite the good combo to me.

[X]Gabriel's going to have to wait on her armor. She'd be the least creepy to post on Nep-watch.

[X] Plan Indestructible
-[X] Purchase Core Containment to level 10 (70+80+90=240)
-[X] Purchase INDESTRUCTIBLE CORE (240+850=1090)
-[X] Purchase Echo of Peace (550+1090=1640)
-[X] Purchase Celestial Severance to level 9 (60+70+80+1640=1850)

Ok, this plan gets INDESTRUCTIBLE CORE, Echo of Peace, and increases Celestial Severance to a high level. All in all, it increases defence and offence at the same time.

Actually, I'd rather spend some XP on Celestial Severance or Starshine if we're going to buy up attacks. We have good special rules, Echo of Peace + Indestructable Core probably makes us and our team hilariously hard to kill.

We just need more biggatons.

EDIT: And of our spells, Starshine actually has the most synergy with our build, given how we've gotten our squad to be relevant, and we already know hilarious things happen when you sync up enough fire.

SON OF EDIT: In fact, here's a suggestion.

[X] Plan Dakkadakkadakka!
-[X] Upgrade Core Containment to level 10 (70+80+90=240)
-[X] Purchase INDESTRUCTIBLE CORE (240+850=1090)
-[X] Purchase Echo of Peace (550+1090=1640)
-[X] Upgrade Starshine to Level 6 (30 + 40 + 50 + 60 = 1820)

Something important before we consider dropping more XP into Celestial Severence:

@crystalwatcher - Is CS still a "destroy everything in front of you" attack or can we now control the size of the cone now that Nepgear has is actually skilled (IE: bought Applied Teachings) like some people have suggested?

Because if it's still a 180 degree cone we're probably better off raising Purifier Beam a couple more levels first since it's applicable in so many more situations.

Edit: I just remembered where all of those omakes we spammed each other with are going. Oh dear. At least they're high quality, it would suck for her dreams to have terrible graphics.
It has also just dawned on me that I have no idea where most of those omakes wound up.

Would someone be willing to collect them for me while I work on the starter stats that I promised LDj?

@crystalwatcher - Is CS still a "destroy everything in front of you" attack or can we now control the size of the cone now that Nepgear has is actually skilled (IE: bought Applied Teachings) like some people have suggested?
Anastasia can control the swing pattern for CS now, yes. It no longer has to be a straight line.

-[X] Upgrade Starshine to Level 6 (30 + 40 + 50 + 60 = 1820)

There is a reason I had us pick up 1 level of Starshine; we don't know it's growth pattern yet. We know it went from 100 -> 125 at Level 2 but that isn't enough to generate a pattern. It could be anything from +25 per level to x1.25 per level. Better to get more data and find out the details before dumping a ton of XP on it.

Anastasia can control the swing pattern for CS now, yes. It no longer has to be a straight line.

Hm. we could grab two levels of CS (6,400 damage) in exchange for the level of Starshine and Purifier Beam I mentioned and still get everything else...

But I still think leveling up our primary attack vector is important. Remember you can only cast one spell per turn, baring an ability/spell that lets you exceed that, while Purifier Beam can attack 3 times per turn. Plus it's also the number which determines how much damage is reduced by an Intercept.
