Because they already know the pocedures etc that he wants to introduce, same argument for having someone around that speaks the language you are trying to learn.

We already have new procedures to use in the Scholarium. Velen will be an instructor, at least in the beginning, not the administrator.

Mage exchange delayed by six months in my vote to allow the Scholarum to solidify its procedures and to give us some breathing room before taking in foreign mages.

[X] Velen comes with us to Sorcerer's Deep in three weeks.
-[X] We get copies of whatever books in their library we don't already have.
--[X] In exchange, the Dornish get copies of the primers of magic from the Scholarum, the ones that explain the basics of magic and warn of its various dangers, as well as copies of a few more valuable tomes on subjects Velen says they need more knowledge on.
-[X] We see if they are willing to part with any dangerous artifacts they have found. We're looking, not outright buying just yet.
--[X] Make clear that we know of at least one method to safely destroy such artifacts.
-[X] They give us information on the state of their magic school, how strong the casters are, how many casters there are, what magic items they have, etc.
-[X] For the exchange, this needs to be done carefully. In an ideal world we could do this as openly as we do with Mantarys, but this needs to stay relatively hidden. Dornish mages and Scholarum mages can be exchanged on a one-to-one basis if they are of equal power and skill, but they have to be carefully vetted first to make sure they will be discreet about it.
--[X] This exchange cannot unfortunately occur immediately as we have recently instituted changes to the Scholarium that we would like to see mature before introducing yet more changes.

Shamelessly stolen from @Duesal but restricted to the actual vote and limiting the exchange for the next few turns.

[X] Duesal

@Duesal I think @Mormont has the right idea. We can include the warning about the Teleportation Circles in a later vote. It really doesn't seem to fit into the current conversation.

Is anyone else jealous of Dorne? Of everyone, really. Everyone has these nifty magical ruins to loot and pillage right in their backyard, and meanwhile we're an island. :( Developing our own city from the ground up definitely has its perks, but damn I would have loved to have some dungeons to throw our magelings at.

Well we had the one ruin that we sent the baby adventurers at. They did take care of that one nicely.

We are getting Tyrosh and its hinterlands, that should count for some old graves, crumbling ruins and abandoned areas.

We don't really need ruins in the local area to send our people to. At any time we could set up micro-actions for B-listers or NPCs to help out the Night's Watch, help out our trade partners in Mantarys or Lamentation, or go adventuring in any number of other locales, or go raiding, or so on and so forth.

We've started to do some of that, even. It'll pick up once we have more people and they're more well equipped for their tasks.

@DragonParadox Can you tell us now how many Dornish mages there are, as well as their classes and levels? Seems like something Velen could tell us IC and you could pass to us OOC. ;)

Sure. Of people he would trust to reliably use magic:

Order of the Flame:
1 Mystic 6
2 Mystic 4
4 Mystics 2
4 Hedge Mages 3

Order of the Spear:
6 Fighter 3/Hedge Mage 2
3 Bards 3
2 Sorcerers 3

Order of the Cauldron:
2 Hedge Mage 5
2 Mystic 2
5 Hedge Mage 3
1 Druid 1

Before anyone gets up in arms a lot of these people are not trained and instead just gathered from all over Dorne.

And once they are a little stronger we have Planeshift, there are plenty of dangerous work for a PC of sufficient level, in the Planes we have the coordinates to, so we can send any who reach around level 6-7 to take the easiest missions such planes offer.

31 mages?

That's... not bad at all. Their program must be roughly comparable, since I'm assuming they have a greater number of students (for now). That'll change when we conquer Tyrosh.

What about Velen? Has he picked up any Racial HD or class levels?

6 Fighter 3/Hedge Mage 2
Wow.
That makes an already bad class really terrible.

Of the OGs or of nature or some concept of it?
Or tought by the Lampad?
If we could find out how that guy came into being we'd be very thankful.

@Duesal
It seems what they need most is the formal and theoretical knowledge to make Wizards/Archivists.
What we need most from them is the trick to awakening Mystics.

Try to get that in the knowledge-exchange maybe?

Ugh... Teleportation Circles...

That's pretty bad to see. They have rather devastating effects on the socio-economic development of the region.

I mean, a teleportation network has been my logistical/infrastructure aim for some time. We don't need to run scared from it, since we're in a position to take over infrastructure expansion in the region anyway (construct railroads?).

And since Dorne needs to shift to a more forward defense in the Red Mountains, it's very, very valuable in terms of transferring supplies to where their army will be from port where we can bring in supplies from Essos.

There are never too many dungeons. Those things breed XP and loot, and we're always on the lookout for low-CR opportunities to see the magelings grow quickly.

I also laughed when I saw that. Those poor bastards.

@DragonParadox, I'm assuming the Lampad did these? Is she still here? Has Dorne negotiated an extension of her contract?

We should definitely exchange that information, yeah.
