I prefer the opposite, that is, before Tyrosh to cement the alliance. If we do it next month, and then say we'll return to discuss the exact details of the alliance once Doran isn't quite so busy helping his sister, and then go conquer Tyrosh before returning would be ideal. It puts us in a strong negotiating position, but also demonstrated that we took his request seriously and did not delay Elia's resurrection.

This is basically my opinion on the Dorne situation.

Edit: maybe it's just me, but I just do not care about Oberyn's mission. We can just grab him and drop him back in a week if need be. He might still be on his boat

We're raising their dead sister (if she consents). There is no 'greater impact' worth mentioning.

So, my position is, asap, grab Oberyn, explain the situation to himself and Doran, (attempt to) raise their sister, then after a week, drop Oberyn back, or not. Up to him if he wants to abandon his men. Again idgaf, and I don't see why others care either.
I give a great many fucks. The mission was important enough to Dorne since they were hellbent on a way to get magic without relying on us (annoying, but whatever). Oberyn abandoning the mission midway means Dorne spent a whole lot of resources and gained nothing, which would eventually come back to bite us in the ass. They'd either go on another mission somewhere else insanely dangerous or return to the same place (high stress for Tyene). Waiting for right before Tyrosh costs us nothing. One way or another Elia gets resurrected.

By the way, @DragonParadox, we voted to give Oberyn a bag of attuned sand so we could keep in constant contact with him. Can you tell us what's happened so far with him? What he's encountered, fought off, and found?

[X] Up to 10/15 - we'll see if they have the knack for magic, and if not, we can at least teach them the basics of what they are dealing with and carry those back in like a month or two. Two weeks for a very quick course. Teaching magic would take longer than that, and they would have to meet our own standards, naturally.
-[X] Mention the lannister mage (and his circumstances and temperament).

Should that dude not have arrived by now?

Edit @Duesal, hadn't considered it that way. Hmm. I don't share your position, but I do see where you are coming from

Edit edit: some help with vote refinement would be nice.

Ha, I was kinda right about my musing of there being Warlocks of the Wall, if Benjen truly is gaining special abilities from the Wall and his oath to it.

I normally wouldn't give a damn, but every time Oberyn goes on life-threatening adventures it puts Tyene on edge, and that distraction could end up very bad in a fight. If it weren't for that I would just categorize the entire thing as "not our problem," but Tyene is important enough to us that we're forced to look after the welfare of her family. :( It's a heavy price to pay, but she's worth it.

Now, if we realized our endure elements statue that activates when the oath is recited - how may that impact the wall's reaction, because reciting (and believing) the oath gets you results.

She's basically carrying Dorne. And their bloody 3 day wait period.

Hrm, for numbers...about a dozen to start seems right? They wont all have aptitude, but would let us see if any of them have the talent for it, and at worst give them a crash course in some Knowledge skills about things they might face. Specifically select for educated or from old (as in dating back to first men) families as being the most likely to have magic potential?

[X] We will make an initial offer to attempt to train half a dozen Black Brothers in the use of magic.
-[X] We won't simply take any volunteers, however. Those who wish to make the attempt will first be screened for suitability, both magical and intellectual, and most important of all, moral. We will not be responsible for training an unrepentant rapist or murderer in the ways of magic, especially if doing so would allow them to break their vows.

Trust Ameon's character judgement before bloodline imo. :).

@Goldfish, nothing about giving a crash-course in dealing with magic crap for a few non-mages?

Actually, yeah. This is absolutely true. She's the sole reason me, @Azel, and others are bothering with Dorne at all.

-[X] Let Aemon judge who might be best suited among his brothers, intellect and work-moral are vital, so is a character that will actually come back to aid the Watch rather than use his newly gained power for other pursuits
-[X] Mention the Lannister mage that's coming over

I trust uncle Aemon, otherwise I agree with Goldfish.

@Duesal, the joke is on Doran.

Every time he hedges his bets and looks for other offers, ours is getting worse.

He could have been the fulcrum of our restoration. Now he is a nice to have.
