  • [X] Plan Both
-[X] Give out an order that any large-scale money transfer conducted by the state or trusted institutions (that is: the Iron Bank), can request additional security from the Inquisitional Stormtroopers (that is: their small army of high-CR monsters).
-[X] Encourage the use of chequing accounts by setting up a cooperation between the Iron Bank and the Imperial Postal Service so that people can deposit and withdraw money from and to their IB accounts at post offices.
-[X] Deepen the cooperation between the Imperial Administration and the Iron Bank, granting a small tax rebate for all taxable transactions that are processed by the Iron Bank, thus giving a de facto tax cut to everyone who has their monetary affairs primarily handled over their chequing account. This has the other great benefit of making it much easier for the Administration to collect taxes, saving effort and costs which will more then weigh up the slight rebate.

Part MMMDCLI: Seeds of Wonder
Seeds of Wonder

Thirty First Day of the Third Month 294 AC

While you do briefly entertain pouring wildfire after your stolen pay chests and if that is not enough to trouble to locals take more of the essence you draw from Mammon's corpse, this calls for more practical solutions. Firstly you give out an order that any large-scale money transfer be conducted by the state or trusted institutions, and can request additional security from the Inquisitional Stormtroopers. Secondly you seek to encourage the use of checking accounts by drafting a proposed cooperation between the Iron Bank and the Imperial Postal Service. Ideally people can deposit and withdraw money from and to their Iron Bank accounts at post offices.

There is you suppose a measure of irony in the fact that the very post office which was robbed in this instance would hopefully be part of the solution. Of course on the other side of that cooperation you have learned early that the Iron Bank does not work without seeing a solid profit. Thus you plan to give a small tax rebate for all taxable transactions that are processed by the Iron Bank, a de facto tax cut to everyone who has their monetary affairs primarily handled over their checking account. This has the other great benefit of making it much easier for the Administration to collect taxes, saving effort and costs which will more then weigh up the slight rebate.

Thankfully all this is something you can delegate to the Administration and the Imperial Post, allowing you to move on to the provinces formerly under the dominion of Volantis. Here you are satisfied to see infrastructure and administrative improvements progressing under budget and sometimes ahead of schedule, but it is in what was once the Eastern Disputed Lands that you find the most remarkable development. The expanding road network and postal services have persuaded several local potentates to invest in trade, specifically in trade goods that would beneft from being sent to distant markets.

Let it not be said that the pride and ambition of Volantis cannot be put to good use, you shake your head surprised and impressed all at once. They had decided to grow arcane plants, from djinn-sourced Palm of Decadent Feasts to Fey Cherries grown from seeds traded with the Orphne to the prosaically named Sheltershrub all are sizable to assure the investors and their families a healthy return not just now but in centuries to come in what is likely the most diverse arcane orchards outside the Stepstones. It is estimated that the effort alone has increased the wealth of the province and the taxes you can draw from it by fifty percent.

Expand Law Enforcement in Orange Shore (5/41)
Investigate Enemy Spies in Volantis -> None Found
Establish Messenger Service in Orange Shore (23/49)
Establish Inquisition Base in Valysar (17/26)
Establish Messenger Service in Eastern Disputed Lands (12/50) -> Critical Success (Arcane Orchards, Wealth +2)
Establish Inquisition Base in Selhorys (6/28)
Establish Inquisition Base in Volon Sar (12/12) -> Complete

The report comes unsurprisingly with a letter from the companies in question. While many have Scholarum trained mages on retainer to help with managing the orchards they are aware of deeper magics which can aid them, magics of the Old Gods and the Flesh Forge. While acquiring weirwood saplings is hardly difficult the blood sacrifice that goes into dedicating a new godswood in good time is more than gold alone can buy, at least while keeping one's head above water when it comes to the law.

Do you help the mercantile concerns in the Eastern Flatlands with godswoods and leshi gardeners?

[] Yes (Further Provincial Wealth increase chance)
-[] Write in how many and for what price

[] No, you cannot afford the price

OOC: Sorry this took so long guys. Making tables for the postal actions is getting harder every time since I don't want to repeat too much, especialy in cases like this where you get
double 6s and a good roll on the d100.

Here's an edited version of the chapter, @DragonParadox.

Didn't we have a bunch of items laying around that were scheduled for sacrifice?
Yeah, but those are probably gonna be used for a whole lot of trees all over Westeros.
Among other things, we have 66 Efreeti items at 5th caster level that can be sacrificed, along with the following:
  • 14 Infernal Third Eye of Clarity (7th caster level)
  • 14 Infernal +3 Amulet of Resistance (9th caster level)
  • 7 Infernal +3 Fullplate Armor (9th caster level)
  • 7 Infernal +3 Flaming Composite Longbow (9th caster level)
  • 1 Infernal Cloak of Displacement (7th caster level)
These total up to 687 caster levels. What does it take for a Heart Tree, 20?

It takes 20, yeah. Don't forget anything made of Living Brass benefits from the Strength Domain and gets an extra +2 in CL.

That should be all of the Efreeti stuff, so we should need 3 of the CL5 items per tree.
Also if we're going to sponsor this don't let the merchants skimp and grow anything less than a Tier-3 Weirwood Heart Tree. If we triplicate an effect the range expands to ten times the original size. Far, far more valuable than growing a bunch of Tier-1 Weirwood Heart Trees.

[X] Yes (Further Provincial Wealth increase chance)
-[X] What you offer:
--[X] 30x minor Efreeti magic items (CL 5th) to grow a total of 10x Tier-3 Heart Trees with triple Plant Growth effects.
--[X] Each tree will have the usual guard of 1x Druid Creature Treant (CR 10, 7 HD, 4,800 IM), 2x Advanced Druid Lotus Leshy (CR 8, 7 HD, 2,400 IM), 2x Verdant Wolves (CR 6, 6 HD, 1,200 IM)
--[X] Furthermore, you will add 8x Advanced Leaf Leshy (CR 2, 300 IM) and 2x Advanced Fungus Leshy (CR 3, 450 IM)
--[X] In total, this will cost 15,300 IM per tree and 153,000 IM for everything put together.
--[X] You will also throw in one month worth of Titan Tool use to create infrastructure (mainly roads and large irrigation channels that can carry small freight boats).
-[X] What you expect in return:
--[X] Strong minority shares in all companies that benefit from this.
--[X] Instead of taking your share of the profits in coin, you will instead collect in produce, which will be made available to the healthcare system, the Inquisition and any other state organ that would benefit from what they produce.
--[X] Saplings of all plants they have acquired so far or will acquire in the future, for special projects and the gardens of the Imperial Palace.
--[X] All orchards must be spaced apart from each other to provide room for settlements and natural vegetation in between the commercial used areas.
--[X] The Leshies can freely settle in these non-commercial areas and you retain the right to create settlements, be they human, Fey or otherwise, in those areas. The rights of the companies to use their orchards are not impacted by this, but they will effectively waive all rights to object to changes in the land use of the area around their property.
-[X] Side projects:
--[X] Pick some botanically inclined people from the Scholarium who are looking for a mastery project and have them cultivate one Fey Cherry tree each in the desert of Orange Shore, and one in the tainted areas of the southern border of Draconys. They will document how the trees handle these extreme environment and what their innate magic is doing to the environment in turn.
--[X] Also see if you can grow some Shelter Shrubs at the Wall and in New Lyceos (southern Draconys) to make the areas more tolerable to the people there.

Looks very nice, IMO. Just a reminder, we have some Herbalist archetype Alchemists training in the Scholarium now, so they might be ideal for the Cherry Tree project.

All three of those magical plants are fucking amazing, BTW. Mass cultivation of them is going to do wonders for the Imperium's populace.
