    Thirtieth Day of the First Month 294 AC

    The first thing you hear from Dany at breakfast is news from the far west of the ships who had followed in the wake of Elissa Farman's long ago expedition to find isles of wild beauty untouched by man, strange likely cursed beasts and perhaps most unexpectedly the shade of Elissa herself.

    "The woman treated our House ill and took advantage of her affections," your mother points out as she sets her fork down with a faint chine of silver on wood. "She stole dragon eggs."

    "Cause enough for execution, but wherever she has traveled Elissa Farman has suffered far beyond death and knowledge of those voyages will be no small thing," you reply.

    "Good," Dany nods firmly. "A fury earned steel wings in that place from sympathy with her plight. A moment worth honoring of itself." Seeing you look at her in askance she adds. "I certainly have nothing against those who choose to keep to the dark, but knowing there is a choice is important. No one can mistake that angels can Fall, but devils Rising is a rarer thing." In this world most of all, her gaze says, though she does not speak aloud lest it darken the morning light.

    You can hardly disagree with that sentiment.

    Thoughts of specters and lands yet undiscovered fade from your mind as you return to pondering investments closer to home. Thankfully the news here is good and more than good. Not only can you now have a cup of Sorcerer's Purple without worrying about as of yet incomplete Scholarum authorizations but Everflame Ironworks has expanded yet again even as Anu's project called upon the efforts of many smiths for the Forge of Creation. If there is one thing the Stepstones does not lack for it is eager smiths sailing from far and wide into the realm to work with metal and magic.

    Verdant Vistas and the Southlands Fruit Company do not show as much growth, but the current developments should be done by next month in both cases and money well spent at that. It is the expansion of the Northwestern Trading Company however that catches your eye. According to reports the expansion of the company would not have been near as swift as it can now boast if it had not been for Maege Mormont putting forth more workers than you had expected. Skilled workers, not just more hands to wield a hammer or backs to haul ship planks.

    It seems the Lady of Bear Island has taken an unexpected lesson from her nephew's disgrace, to give a home to slaves from distant lands where she can. Lady Mormont has sent agents to hire those who know useful trades and crafts from all over Western Essos.

    Most freedmen of course are flowing into the cities of your realm, Sorcerer's Deep chief among them with some being drawn east by the promise of empty lands and new towns, but even so Bear Island's needs are comparatively small and there are those for whom the memories of slavery holds such darkness that they would rather take ship 'to the ends of the world' than stay in Essos, especially if they can do that on the ships of a Royal Company which have a reputation for reliability even on long journeys.

    Wait, Usizil became LN? Wow, did not catch that the first time reading through, but it makes the line/joke about redemption make much more sense. Thought that was somehow referring to Elissa Farman first.

    Also mgrgrgrgr at Fire and Blood. Like yeah, I know from basic narrative/meta conventions the book would reveal Jahaerys and Alysanne are not in fact the best thing since sliced bread, but there has to be a middle ground between "Bestest Ruler Eva!" and "Miracle he remembers to breath at night, only kept the throne since the biggest rival got hit with Eldritch Face Worms." Come on, even Robert wouldn't be dumb enough to betroth Mycrella to Walder Frey while Jahaerys apparently couldn't get enough of wedding all the damn royal princesses to old men who already had heirs!

    Woah, Usizil...Rose? Ascended? Whatever the proper terminology, that is awesome. @DragonParadox, I hope she'll get some more screen time? Very neat and unexpected development!
