He just violated her mind. If there is a law for that, and considering that he just offered us to let it do it, then he would be breaking it by inviting us to break it.

@DragonParadox, do we know of any legal problems to use greater curses to interrogate?
He's a cop who works in a legal system designed by hell, his ability to interrogate her is different than ours from a legal point of view. Permanent injury may be beyond what he can technically authorize us to do.

On the summoning front, an Astral Deva is only CR 14, so could we summon one to detect lies for us? Since summons are just copies of the idea of a creature it's not like we need to worry about getting someone local involved, and it's weaker than the monolith we just summoned. Not sure if it's something we can actually grab though. We could go with a Couatl with the appropriate spells prepared since it's definitely on the list, but that's a bit too exotic for this identity in my opinion.

So far, we have demonstrated no Divination or Enchantment magic of any significance. Our current persona apparently hails from the Opaline Vault and has shown a propensity for Earth-type magic, including using Amber Sarcophagus to capture the Devil, Xorn Movement to reach the fortress, and Summon Elemental Monolith to get the garrison's attention.

Hassan is a straight forward, orderly sort of fellow. If we play him like that to the hilt, with no inclination or ability for magic-boosted intrigue, we may be less likely to be perceived as a threat or someone from whom secrets must be hidden.

[X] "The offer is appreciated, Lord Iradious, but I must admit to having little gift for magics of Divination or Enchantment. If it would aid in the interrogation, however, I can attempt to lay a powerful curse upon the prisoner, one which will render her much less able to resist further efforts to learn her secrets?"
-[X] If Iradious agrees, we will cast Bestow Greater Curse on the Handmaiden Devil to inflict a -8 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, ability checks, and skill checks

No, but then that was not a part of the law you studied in any detail. It does not seem likely to be an issue though.

*cough* except we are using Bloodwish to cast these spells as well, so it wouldn't take a genius to see that we'd be able to cast Mind magics as well *cough*

Wait.
Does our fake identity here even allow for casting Bloodwish?
@DragonParadox, ah need some of the IC-insight on this.

No, but it does allow limited wish, Viserys would need to bluff losing XP

I agree with this. It is unnecessary once we made it mandatory to tell the truth.
"as necessary"
Just there in case it has a way out of Zone of Truth effect.
There are ways around it, but not all do it for all the questions we can ask.

Ergo, a precaution, not the main way of info-gathering.

Confess is ccertinly...

Devils get tortured for breakfast. They will probably laugh 5d4 and sickened off.

Let's sandbag a bit. Viserys Targaryen can do pretty much everything in terms of magic. Other sorcerers are rather more limited. The persona would not burn XP for Limited Wish here, do not think.

This cedes the initiative though, and the whole torture device surely renders moot the whole cursing idea.

See, the interrogator is lying to make us inspect her mind, so that he can gain some knowledge from us. This is almost a certainty. What we should do is to make the Gylou talk openly, exposing the lie that the interrogator told us ("You surely want to see what she has to tell about you!"), so that we can gather enough information for Heronious.

If this persona seems too unfit for intrigue, they will not take us seriously and we will not get to gather valuable information.

You're voting for a wrong guy then, I'm the one with a vote to Bloodwish some spells and make it out to seem Limited Wish.

If we go with egoo's plan we'll need to be careful with our spell list use. The monolith could have come from a number of sources, but with all of our demonstrated magic being divine any high level arcane only spells would be noteworthy. We don't want them thinking too hard about our build and multiclassing mages of the ninth circle tend to have class synergy tricks that it's incredibly useful to know about if you're in their range.

Edit: Wait. We're here as a genie and wish is socially taboo to mention in the same room as them. Causal use of limited wish would be a huge red flag indicating that we're currently disguised.

We're not in combat right now, so we don't need to "win". Half the point of my plan is to make Iradious think we weren't canny enough to understand that he may have ulterior motives in his offer. Hassan is too straightforward to notice such things, just as his magic is powerful, but blunt.

Okay. Just bear in mind that we will not get to know a lot of the truth.

Hassan is not a true genie, just and oread (shaitan blooded).

[X] Agree to interrogate the prisoner
-[X] Use Abdar's Truthtelling and Confess spells as necessary to learn things.
-[X] We are interested in who it's employer are, whom it serves overall, if it had any allies in this venture, what was it's target, what was it's plan, what it (thought) it knew of the auction attendees, etc.

Oops. I somehow missed that I guess. That makes it more plausible for him to use wish and have a divine casting class, but still somewhat unusual if he was raised with any real contact with genies. We'll need to keep that in kind if we have to talk about his background at all I suppose.
It might be taken as given that sleeping and leaving around byblows, then taking the time to educate and patronize Genie-blooded mages is a means around the taboo to get a small amount of wishcraft in use by people with blood-ties dissuading its misuse.

@DragonParadox hasn't touched much upon Genie cultural practices in the Peerless Empire or Armun Kelisk, but what little he has is that at the top-level, the Genies can be (un)surprisingly pragmatic.
