"Lady Pandora, might I have an audience?"
You blinked up at the Grey Knight Captain, slightly annoyed considering you were standing at the door right about to leave when you caught a premonition of another annoying meeting with your father's Silver Paladins. But if Friedrich caught onto your irritation or realised that you were conveniently at the door this time, with no obstructive Custodians around, he did not show it.
But he probably did. You'll give him
that much credit. "Just you this time?" You asked, out of courtesy.
The Captain nodded. "This one is more of a personal query. I… understand that you find dealing with so many of us at once tiring."
Well, he wasn't completely deaf to social cues after all. You shrugged and stepped aside, then shut the door when the Captain strode in. "What do you want to know, Captain?"
"How did you defeat the Daemon Primarch, Angron?"
Well, cutting right to the chase. You didn't take Friedrich for one to dilly-dally anyhow. "He tried to fight me one-on-one, assuming that as a Psyker I don't know my way around with a weapon." You shrugged again. "Honestly, I'm pretty sure he wanted to die. That's why he tried to go after me, despite knowing about
it."
Captain Friedrich nodded. "I see. Thank you, Lady Pandora. And what happened after?"
Oh. Of course one of them would find out. You raised an eyebrow, which the Captain met with an impassive expression.
"One of the Prognosticae was taken by a vision. Together we consulted the Emperor's Tarot, and pieced together a… general chain of events."
So he doesn't bother to even glance in your direction when you're about to go to
war for the first time, but the moment you cut one of his Primarchs loose he sends a Grey Knight to interrogate you. You quash that sudden flash of anger and pinch the bridge of your nose. "I… I don't want to talk about it, Captain. It happened. He's free. That's it."
"But could he still be a threat?"
"I don't know! I hope not! Whether he is or isn't is up to him now, that's the
point of being free!" You exhale hard, hands clenched. "Angron of Nuceria is no longer one of Khorne's Exalted Daemon Princes, and I doubt he'll ever go back to Chaos. Whether that means he's no longer a threat is up to him -
and to whoever tries to go after him."
Captain Friedrich looked at you. Then he nodded evenly, not a hair out of place. "I understand. Thank you, Lord Commander."
You take a deep breath. "You're welcome, Captain. Sorry you had to deal with that. You can go now."
----
"What did she say?"
"She confirmed it. Khorne has lost a Daemon Primarch."
"What frightening power. If she could teach the mechanism--"
"Enough, brother. That is not our place."
"We fight with sticks while she wields steel, Friedrich. How many lives could we save if we knew even a fraction of what she does?"
"You sound like Grandmaster Laraon, Edmund."
"And you know full well that my frustrations don't even come close to his. The longer she withholds her knowledge…"
"She has no obligation to teach us, Edmund."
"I understand that, but not every Brotherhood does."
"Patience. The other Brotherhoods would never dare harm the Firstborn of the Emperor."
"If only that were true."
----
You open your eyes, exhaling as you do so. Well, that's good to know.
----
Seraphax is a world in ruin. But among the ruined worlds you've come across, it is surprisingly cheerful.
"Welcome to Seraphax, Lord Commander. We never lost hope, not since the skies turned dark and we became blind to the Emperor's Light. But your arrival was also greatly appreciated," chuckled the old man clad in robes and carapace, his ceremonial hat replaced by the peaked hat of an Imperial Guard commander - albeit, in the colours of the Ecclesiarchy. White trimmed with crimson, as it turns out. "I am Cardinal Dominicus, shepherd to the flock here."
You blinked at his attire. "I wasn't aware Cardinals wore armour and lead men in combat."
"Ah," the Cardinal smiled as he patted his chest. "This? I was meant to become a Commissar when I was admitted to the Schola Progenium, but instead I was invited to the Ecclesiarchy at the behest of a passing priest. Then one thing led to another, and… Well, it hardly compares to your own heroics, Lady Pandora."
"I'll be the judge of that," you responded with a smile of your own. "You can tell me your story while you show me your world, Cardinal." You glance around, and realise that there are no red-clad giants anywhere to be seen. "Ah, where are the Space Marines?"
"They returned to Baal a few days ago as part of a general muster, I believe. Chapter Master Orloc has left behind a small force to help manage any remaining cultists." Cardinal Dominicus closed his eyes and made the sign of the aquila with his hands. "Even now, Sanguinius and his sons continue to watch over us."
You can feel Sanguinius cringing inside of you, so naturally you decide to egg him on. "While you show me Seraphax, Cardinal, tell me about your patron Saint."
'If you think I'm going to squirm, you're sorely mistaken.'
"Show me what you're made of, Great Angel."
'Ugh…'
----
"I'm proud of you, you know?"
The Spirit of Sanguinius, for once not in the guise of a twin-headed aquila but of a small featureless sprite, kept his gaze firmly away from you, instead continuing to look at the figurine that Dante had carved for you right where you placed it on your table.
'I actually hoped you would be mad that I went to fight Ka'Bandha.'
"I'm a little annoyed, sure. But mostly because that meant you were in trouble." You set your stylus down and put your notebook aside, filled with notes and musings on the nature of the Warp you planned to teach the Telepathica. "How's Ishmael doing?"
Sanguinius grunted. The current incarnation of the Sanguinor had departed quickly after Sanguinius and he vanquished Ka'Bandha back into the Warp and Sanguinius separated once more, as was the tendency. Guess he didn't want to stick around to take responsibility, either.
'He is well. My son can manage himself.'
"Mmhm. No doubt." You let your feet dangle over the side of your bed, which you've seen annoyingly little of so far. And that will probably continue, but Goddesses don't sleep apparently. "Dante took to being named a Lord Descendent of the Senatorum Imperialis well."
'He's been expecting the burden ever since the Cicatrix Maledictum split the Galaxy in half. If anything, this way he has the authority to get things done properly.'
"And I'm sure your counsel didn't hurt," you smiled, and Sanguinius scoffed. "Oh please, I
definitely saw you with him when I gave him the title. So how did you reach him? Vague premonitions? Feelings? A voice in his head?"
'...Dreams. I spoke to him. He wanted to know if it ever ended.' Sanguinius was silent for a long moment.
'I told him I didn't know. But that you might.'
"I don't, for the record."
'Probably not. But you bring the rare hope of actually being able to make a difference.' A short chuckle.
'The two of you might be kindred spirits. Both of you disdain responsibility and have it fall into your lap, and you each take to it with aplomb because it means others won't have to.'
You sighed. He was not wrong about that. "Thanks for helping him to put his trust in me. But did you tell him about you?"
Sanguinius shook his head.
'No, not yet. I'll contact them in dreams and offer guidance where I can, but I will not chart their destiny for them. I will be a happy memory to strive towards, not a constant presence in their lives.'
You scoffed and threw your stylus at him. Being a ghost, it passed right through him, but Sanguinius finally turned to look at you with blank, expressionless eye holes. "You clearly never grew up with actual parents. Being around will actually make them idolise you
less."
'...Perhaps.'
Well, that's about as much as you're getting out of him today. With some time you could probably work him over some more, but there's ten thousand things for you to do and you have time for maybe five of those. "Anyways, did you know that we have Blood Ravens?"
Sanguinius frowned.
'Who?'
"Another Chapter of Space Marines. One of their Companies was zipping around the Baal Sector throughout the fighting, same as me."
'They… also defied the Hive Mind?'
"Yeah. It's actually really impressive. Demonstrates some incredible control." You tap your chin. "I'm also fairly certain they're Sons of Magnus."
'...I would be surprised, but only the Sons of Magnus would do something so ill-advised. Will you be engaging them?'
"Depends. I might confront them about it, then help them through it. Gotta look at my schedule." You sighed, stretched, then counted on your fingers. "I gotta prepare this branch of the Telepathica
and figure out the alternative to Sanctioning they'll use here - might still need to do that honestly so I'll have to do the better not-me method… I'm sure random Cults of Sacrifice will start showing up all over the place so I'll have to think on
that…"
'Get Dante's help.'
You blinked. Sanguinius did not blink back. "Okay, I appreciate the thought, but I'd have to tell him about
all this first."
'So tell him. The Blood Angels are adept at keeping secrets.' Sanguinius shrugged.
'They've been struggling with my curses for the better part of ten millennia and it is still somehow a secret.'
"Okay, fair, but won't
he freak out?"
'I will assist you in this regard, fret not. And Dante is unusually open-minded about these matters, as you well know.'
You mutter nothings under your breath and wonder when did people start being so
blase about godhood. Still, it
is possibly useful. "Okay, maybe. Besides that, though, I still gotta deal with the Inquisitors, figure out which Blood Angels have been stupid and doing Chaos Things I need to untangle them from, Lyra's got some ruins she wants to explore,
and I still need to work on my Goddess thing! Especially since, you know,
I'm actually still one!"
'Indeed, there is a lot to do and not enough time for it all. So,' Sanguinius said,
'Let's go over your priorities, shall we?'

Glory to the Most High, He Whose Wisdom We Enact
The Emperor Protects
You have up to Eight (8) Years to spend in the Dark Imperium on the following Reforms:
Note: Time will continue to pass regardless of your decisions, and one way or another you will need to be back on Terra in time for Turn Two. The more time you spend establishing things in the Dark Imperium, the less time you will have to figure out the High Lords or prepare your next set of agendas. Balance your time carefully.
Infrastructural Reforms:
[] Rebuild damaged Infrastructure, fortify existing Fortress Worlds, and prepare the Baal Sector to be the heart of the new Dark Imperium. (1 Year)
Though the Baal Sector still stands strong in the aftermath of Hive Fleet Leviathan's onslaught, it is still battered and in need of relief and reconstruction. [Must Be Taken]
[] Convince as many Successor Chapters as you can to remain in the Dark Imperium to help anchor the region. (1 Year)
Some of the Successor Chapters who came to save Baal are willing to remain to stabilise the region, but others are yet undecided. You could help sway their decision.
[] Establish new Recruiting Worlds for the Blood Angels (1 Year)
The Blood Angels have traditionally recruited solely from Baal Primus and its two moons. But times are changing, and they should analyse those traditions and change them as well.
Telepathica Reforms:
[] Help establish a local branch of the Telepathica here to train new Psykers and Astropaths now that travel to Terra is even more harrowing than it normally is. (1 Year)
Many of the Primaris Psykers joining the Expedition are here for this reason, but your personal involvement will help establish a firmer foundation. You're probably their best hope for an equivalent to the Sanctioning process anyhow.
[] Teach the Wayfarer Discipline to the Navigators of the Baal Sector (1 Year)
Without your help or the Astronomican, Warp Travel past the Great Rift will be both slow and dangerous. You may as well see if you can't teach Navigators to see the same way you do, since every bit helps.
[] Teach the Wayfarer Discipline to the Primaris Psykers establishing the Telepathica Branch (1 Year)
The Navigators will always be outnumbered by natural born Psykers, and they are both more vulnerable and more valuable targets here anyways. Teaching the Telepathica the Eyes of Pandora - or the Wayfarer Discipline, that seems like a better name honestly - will ensure that the practice is less likely to die out.
[] Teach the Wayfarer Discipline to the Librarians of the Blood Angels (1 Year)
For all you claim that Chaos does not corrupt as much as people think, subversion is still a very real risk. The only people you can really trust not to fall to Chaos, even accidentally, are the Space Marines, and they will need the speed more than the rest. Anyone remaining on this side of the Rift will need to learn your methods.
[] Teach the Wayfarer Discipline to all Psykers willing to learn it (2 Years)
If you're going to be teaching someone, you may as well teach everyone. Travel is slow and Chaos is everywhere, so it will be better to equip everyone who needs it with the tools to get around and level the playing field.
Military Reforms:
[] Aggressively reclaim territory to connect the Baal Sector to the Helheim Corridor as closely as possible. (1 Year)
Your fleet is largely intact and you are the best Navigator in the Galaxy. While you're still here, help make sure that Dante will still have a certain route back to Imperium Sanctus whenever he needs it.
[] Posture and strike at local enemies to anchor Dante's power in the region (1 Year)
While you've chased off Hive Fleet Leviathan and Ka'Bandha, there are other powers in the region all too ready to jump on the Baal Sector once you've left. Some raiding and skirmishing should buy him the space he needs to make his rock into an unbreakable bulwark.
[] Thoroughly cleanse the Baal Sector of all Chaotic influence (1 Year)
You have Grey Knights. You have Custodes. You have over eighty thousand Space Marines. You are here. Root out every last Cult Chaos has left sleeping in the Baal Sector and give Dante as close to a clean slate as you can get in these days so he only needs to worry about enemies coming from outside of his house.
Divine Reforms:
[] Reveal your divinity to the Blood Angels (Free)
Sanguinius has a point and is even willing to bat for you here. Dante is a peer and a kindred spirit, so it's only fair that you come clean if you want him to do your bidding. Reveal your divine nature to the Blood Angels, so they can help you keep people alive. Must be taken before any other actions in this category can be done
[] Manage the future Cults of Sacrifice (1 Year)
You have made something of an impact during the fighting, and you doubt that everyone is going to attribute every last bit of it to your father. While flattering, it does present a risk to them since technically worshipping you is heresy, and the nature of your cults tend to make them very public targets to get shot at. Your Deva won't be able to manage them, so you will need local authorities who can. And the only local authorities you trust are the Blood Angels.
[] Offer Dante a contract with your Deva to guide ships through the Warp (1 Year)
Ships in the service of Chaos tend to be unusually fast and precise in the Warp because Daemons are leading them through its tides. Your Deva can do something similar - a bit better actually, since the power you imbued in them also helps them navigate the Warp better. Speed is key to unity in the Dark Imperium, so Dante will want every edge he can get, even though this is pretty much heresy to anyone looking in from the outside.
[] Offer to induct the Blood Angels as your Chosen (1 Year)
Every Chaos God has claimed a Space Marine Legion as their own. Khorne has the World Eaters, Nurgle has the Death Guard, Tzeentch has the Thousand Sons and Slaanesh has the Emperor's Children. You could do something similar with the Blood Angels, who are already really close to you whether they realise it or not. This would empower them, maybe even help them manage their Curses, and you even have their Primarch's permission… But it is very definitely heresy, and if anyone finds out they will pay for it dearly. But out here in the Dark Imperium, they may need every edge they can get.
In Addition, You have Three (3) Personal Actions - Four (4) if you stick around for Five (5) Years or More:
[] Find the Inquisitors embedded all over the Nihilus Expedition Fleet and chat them up. It's time you got to know about the Inquisition and its methods
[] Spend time with the Blood Angels, getting to know each of the Chapters so you know which are clean and which you need to slap free of a Contract
[] Spend time with the Blood Ravens 2nd Company, who you are pretty sure are the Sons of Magnus, and figure things out from there
[] Go with Lyra, who has some ruins she wants to explore around the area which she thinks might help her finish her Masterpiece
[] Spend time with your Deva and with Lily to get back in the swing of things and try to rebuild your connection to the Domain of Sacrifice
[] Convince Sanguinius to reveal himself to the Blood Angels for real, not as a dream but as their father.
There will be a Twelve Hour Moratorium. This will be Plan Voting Only.
