COVER ART!!! By Renu
So, our big conclusion is entering its third draft, though it'll still be a week or so before you see it. In the meantime, have a shiny new cover commissioned from the ever amazing @Renu. I am wildly stoked about this art and I'm really happy to be able to show it to everyone. Avaritia's expression, the light in eir eyes and the way the seed looks all came out so extremely amazing here that I am incredibly hyped for the project.

Okay, but why a cover?

Well, vanity mostly.

But also, after finishing the epilogue, I do want to write a few vignettes, but I'm happy to announce that I'm also going to be cleaning up the work some, editing a few things here and there and tidying some stuff off to make the really final definitive version of the text everything I can make it and throwing an epub/pdf up on itch.io and Amazon for a few bucks. It's not going to be a different thing or anything. There's not likely to be any dramatic content shifts. Just, since I don't intend on starting a Patreon or using kofi or the like, if you'd like to support my writing and/or maybe have a cleaned up version of the story as a pdf or epub, that'll be the way to do it.

I don't think, unless there's a lot more interest than I expect, that it'll make sense to do anything like a print on demand release. But, you never know what the future might hold.

In the meantime, I hope this fantastic cover image helps tide people over the last bits of this delay around our big finale.

Damn, that is an amazing cover image.

I too am hyped.

Anybody know other fics like this? The only ones I know are this one and Et Justitia Omnibus, no matter what I search I can't get any good results.

What exactly are you looking for? Magical girl genre+trans themes, egg protagonists coming to grips with their transness in a spec fic story, that specifically in a magical girl story?

The webcomic Magical Boy features a transmasc protagonist, but he knows he's trans at the start of the story.

Oh my god, that looks so good! Incredible cover art. I'm also really excited by the idea of a cleaned up definitive version of the story too! That would be very exciting to read.

In the immortal words of Philip J. Fry...

Shut up and take my money!

(... once I can give it to you, I mean.)

I've been compiling a list of all Original Magical Girl stories on SV and can easily repost the updated version here. Fool Bloom, The End of All Days, and Precious Acceptance all have trans POV characters.

Looking forward to it!

Also, ArlequineLunaire, one of those magical girl stories is not like the others, lol. Most of those are intentionally, inescapably centered in and around magical girl stories as a genre. Yet Snowfire's excellent not-(intentionally)-magical-girl-genre space opera quest that happens to have souls as real sources of energy somehow continues to not beat the magical girl allegations, I see. (Maybe should have gotten some of those natural 100s at less magical-girl-coded moments?)

I originally included it as a sort-of example, yet everyone else kept telling me to include it as full example.

On another topic, I've been rewatching Powerpuff Girls lately, and now Superbia is reminding me of Him but on the complete opposite end of the Kinsey scale. I'm imagining Superbia with heavy vocal reverb

I love the art. It is really good and I love the portrayal of Avaritia.
a week or so before you see it
That gives me just the right amount of time to reread.

I would definitely love any form of physical release. I've been tempted by various works to see if I could make them myself so I've looked a little into doing it myself and A Little Vice is definitely the one I'm most tempted for.

At least it's not Chromium? :V Thanks for the recs!

I think your computer is prime Resinner material :V

If we assume that Trans-ness is derived purely from the Body and Mind having a mismatched gender, then are not all unwillingly gender bent Magical Girls trans?

I mean, yes, you defined them as trans.

Speaking as a cis dude, "trans-ness is derived purely from the Body and Mind having a mismatched gender" sounds like a very cis take on trans identity. It's a decent summary for us gender noobs, but plenty of transgender people have more nuanced explanations of what it means to be transgender.

I'm not saying it's not more complex, but in terms of slapping an easy label on people for the meme of saying that EVERY magical gender bender story is trans it fits.

You'll ultimately have a more personal experience with your gender expression and that's okay.

But that more personal journey doesn't invalidate the overarching box that you can ultimately draw around functionally every pre transition trans person. Even if that box technically includes people that you might not claim as part of the identity.

its just a matter of how the story actually approaches it themes. there are plenty of stories that never even have any kind of gender changing take place, but still feel more trans than a lot of those kinds of schlocky gender bender stories. nothing inherently wrong with those kinds of stories, but when the themes of gender aren't explored any deeper than the surface level they kinda don't feel like they actually have much in common with lived transgender experiences (though it is really funny how often it seems like theyre written as wish fulfillment from eggs)

Eggiest thing I ever did in Roblox was in a roleplay server I made a dungeon with the Mask Of Dali-La as the reward and the whole point of the mask was it let you turn into a peak human genderswapped version of yourself. I didn't understand why nobody else was excited about that. I was 12.

In more recent times when teaching Lunar Form to my little cultivators I was incredibly disappointed when they retained the male portrait after losing their Sacred Treasures.

I'm gonna go drink now.

Doctor Who Crossover Omake Fanart by ArlequineLunaire
This here's some chibi sketch fanart I did of my Doctor Who crossover omake from a while back (improved version here), specifically the scene of The Doctor finding out the Saints have snuck into the TARDIS. Credit to Snowe for the design of the Saints, thought to pose Inessa off-guard, Ida prepared if something goes down, and Temperance suspicious of this:

Lavinia, my companion for The Doctor, was gonna be included in this sketch, but I feel I screwed up drawing her so I cropped her out. Even if that means the TARDIS rotor is on the side of the picture rather than nicely in the centre. On the plus side, this means more of the pic is focused on the Saints. You can still see what Lavinia looks like here

Not entirely caught up yet, but this story is great and at a few points hit me right in the shell (seriously, the "I'm not trans unfortunately. I wish I was trans but I'm a boy" was so on point it hurt). So anyway I doodled Invidia after her haircut (and count Fruitula because we stan count Fruitula in this house).

Does she have two pair of ears btw? It haunted me while I was drawing her upside down...

Previously, in "A little vice"

EDIT:
And mr. Noir's recruitment pitch.

Drew this only because the word "sinmaxxing" is a horror I had to share.

hi i just binged this all of a few days ago and i know this thread has 81 pages so its not lsike i can really add much to the "gushing about the story" end in text

the characters were so great that i really wanted to draw them
i took some guesses about fashion because a few of the characters are probably intentionally underdescribed but if i missed any blurbs feel free to let me know

might or might not do more in a future, i do everything on a whim

(slightly anachronistic because chiro didnt have the new haircut yet in ch12 when this was idealised to happen but shhhhhhhhhh)

update the brainrot went further than anticipated
i made this entirely on a whim, just cuz i wanted to practice comic making and i was especially interested in portraying c's mental state here. she's really unstable and i tried to portray a little bit of that through the colors and layout but this is my first time making a comic so some of the stuff i tried might not have worked

regardless i dont care if its good because its just fanart
i do really want to congratulate shadell on writing something so intensely engaging to me, the characters are great and i love them
idk if im gonna do more but if i do itll be on more whims

Went back to re-experience the fanart and found that these links were sadly broken. Any chance of seeing them again?

Looks like they were initially uploaded as Discord attachments. And when I open the images in a new tab, I get a generic-looking notification that "This content is no longer available."

So, um...hopefully the fanart is still on the artists' hard drives.

They also are in my art thread (in my signature).

EDIT: and I relinked the images in this thread with another host, let's hope it holds this time. (and if not, on top of the aforementionned thread, they're on my tumblr as well.)

Discord's been purging image links after a set period of time as part of their new policy, so this isn't really unexpected.
