A Little Vice (Trans Magical Girl fic)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
i've got ideas for a few cute post-series scenes in mind that may get posted here now and then. As for a sequel, well, I've definitely toyed with the idea, but if there is one it'll likely be a pretty different work in some ways, instead of just more of the same, and it definitely won't be my next big project.
Yeah, I was expecting that. I think having a slice of life sequel would be better anyways, focusing on character interactions and stuff.
Yeah I don't think I'd want a sequel, just slice of life stuff about the characters.
I feel like that could be a sequel or not, either way works though.
Few epilogue chapters to see how Chiro and others are doing after the end of the story would be nice.
Yeah, that would be great really. I want to see stuff like how Chiro's family situation is resolved, how other characters react, etc.
I think we've talked about it before I would want a sequel to follow the POV of a different character
That does sound like it would work as a sequel, maybe for Inessa or Temperance.

I'm rooting for "avaritias cool adventures as the last beast" or something :V
Honestly I'm hoping for a twofer defection to her becoming Saint Caritas, buuuuuut I can also see her not doing that and becoming a free agent beholden to neither side of the argument here. Even if she breaks away from Superbia (because the Saints just beat him to death as he deserves), it would fit her character more to just...stay a fucking wolf.

The sadly abandoned, and pretty depressing (in a way I quite liked) In Transit: https://www.scribblehub.com/series/378048/in-transit/

Zoe's Performative Masculinity also comes to mind: https://www.scribblehub.com/series/310228/performative-masculinity/

But it's definitely something I think is underserved, and I'd very much like the idea of taking a kinda back and forth approach to transition, zigzagging personal enlightenment and dysphoria and kinda handling a lot of that messy time between epiphany and just being relatively chill with transition and whatnot in this kind of genre.
Thank you, I've bookmarked those.

I like the idea of an alternate universe where Superbia slips on a banana peel and dies before the story starts. So the whole fight between the sins and the virtues takes on a more comic slice of life tone. And Chiro can stay a happy bat girl.

I just want these young adults to be happy

So I will happily take post-series scenes of Chiro's journey as girl because, while I am aware of how things can be, she's gonna be in a better place and probably willing to accept help.
I will also take Inessa's Bizarre Gay Adventure.

My guess is that a proper sequel would likely be set in a sequel to the anime itself, with a new set of villains and all. More time for lessons learned to sink in and new problems to emerge, more time to introduce other characters for the cast to bounce off of, and a different central theme to explore. I would love a collection of post-fic episodes showing Chiro's new day to day with the group as epilogues/omakes though.

And on that note, now I'm trying to think of ideas of what the mid/post series movie would consist of :thonk:

I'm imagining her getting invited to all the Saints' team parties and showing up when they need to fight miscellaneous magical threats and Temperance keeps asking why she doesn't just officially join the team, it would make everything simpler. (Ida implies that Lupin's just a furry.)

In that AU, Gula Shark would never have any reason to leave, so the three trans Beasts would menace Inessa and Ida. There would probably be less collateral damage without Superbia as an accelerant.

My vision of a sequel would be a slice-of-life focusing on Chiro's slow journey from accepting who she is to becoming a better version of herself, possibly accompanied by character arcs for Lupin and other characters, while also participating in the plots of sequel seasons and/or post-seriesmovies that matter considerably less to the actual story being written.

I'd honestly be interested in a Gula/Temperance prequel with her whole arc to joining the Saints, though for a sequel I feel like Ida could be an interesting POV character, given she's been kinda stuck Just Being There while most of the bigger drama happens with everyone around her. Though yeah, Lupin/Avaritia would also be a fun and compelling focus too. I can't speak too much to a sequel though, not being caught up yet, and I should probably stop reading the thread notifs until I do ^^;

The big sequel bait hanging over the whole thing for me is the society where our shark and wolf originally came from. The current series is just earth getting caught in the fallout of the war that happened there ages ago, so if Earth issues get resolved then there's still the larger question of what happened in the first war against the forest, and why.

Also that fucking Discworld Auditor guy is probably not going to be resolved by the end of this, unless this is one of those anime that sets up a final boss and ties it off in the same episode because pacing is dead in kids' serials.

I mean, the season finale has awkwardly stretched into the third cour, but we're still four virtues shy of a set as of last chapter, so there's no way that's the end. So much merchandising to be done still…

ALV is Chiro's story, but a lot of what the framing device emphasizes is how little she values herself. Ending Shining Virtue Angelic Heart with Chiro's self-actualization would feel personally feel a bit dishonest in that sense. It'd also really deny her the chance to change that, to be a part of the main cast for real.

A sequel would probably pick up either a few episodes later or, more likely, post-series entirely, and I'd really have to consider what to do with the framing device in either case, since it wouldn't be able to carry the same meanings in a sequel.

I probably wouldn't write an entirely Ida-centric spinoff. The whole mess of magical girls, adolescence and gender are a lot of what drives my passion for the project and Ida and Inessa are the furthest from that of any of the cast. Which is, perhaps, why they're the main two of the the actual show.

That said, if there's something. I'm unhappy with in the work as it stands, it's that I don't make as good a use of Ida as I do any of the others. Part of that is that she's the most distant from Chiro, but I would definitely want a sequel to do a bit better by her.

Not every show falls neatly on cour divisions for pacing, especially if it's a single 50-episode season like PreCure. This is definitely the end of the first major arc and then the remaining 20-21 episodes are dealing with Gray Robe as a bigger bad and the First Tree Civilization as a higher-scale conflict, I figure.

But it would make sense not to write those 20 episodes as part of A Little Vice since the end of part 1 is the climax of this fic's protagonist's story, with her hopefully settling in more comfortably as an equal member of the ensemble for the second arc. Still kind of curious how it turns out, though.

I don't normally like slice of life stories and prefer more complex plots, so when I say that I would love to see these characters after series ends, I mean it.

You know in the slice of life alternate universe without Superbia the conflict is between colorful magical girls and goth magical girls. And the reverse morality universe with good vices and bad virtues is a comedy where Magical Enby Avaricia Wolf keeps on having their compatriots stolen by the virtues.

Hell, the original Pretty Cure killed off the first set of dark generals within the first half or so of the long season, then introduced a new set.

Bored, can't sleep, came up with ship names from the perspective of the fictive SVAH fandom:

Inessa/Avaritia: Useless Heroine
Inessa/Invidia: Twinsies
Inessa/Temperance: Steamy Romance
Temperance/Avaritia: Beast Friends Forever
Temperance/Invidia: T4Temperance
Avaritia/Invidia: Evil Slumber Party
Avaritia/Invidia/Temperance: Two Handed Watergun

I'm going to be real here I mostly came up with T4Temperance in a random moment of inspireation and wanted to post something with slightly more substance than just that. Ida gets left out because then I'd have to come up with four times as many names and I'm choosing to live in a delusion-world where people care about stated sexual preferences when making ships, and there are zero named male adolescent characters in this story.

Inessa/Avaritia: Useless Heroine
Temperance/Avaritia: Beast Friends Forever
Avaritia/Invidia: Evil Slumber Party
These ship names are vague, arbitrary, and don't really touch on anything interesting about Avaritia's relationship with Inessa/Temperence/Invidia. In short, they're like most non-portmanteau ship names.

I imagined people stubbornly shipping Ida with Charleton, then thought of the ship name "Surf and TERF," but that would need to be a Temperance ship and no one in this story is TERFy enough to fit. (Superbia doesn't pretend to be a feminist.)
